Asus ROG PG27UQ & Acer Predator X27 Hands On Review!

**A Closer Look at the Gaming Monitors of My Dream PC**

I have to say that these gaming monitors are unquestionably the best I've ever used, with a massive step up in color contrast and fluidity over standard 4K panels. The native refresh rate of 120 Hertz is way smoother than any 4K monitor I've used before, and while you will of course need one hell of a gaming PC to actually drive this, it makes such a big difference in games like Destiny 2 and feels absolutely phenomenal without any perceivable input lag at all. In fact, if this isn't good enough for you, you can even overcome it to 144 Hertz - and because both screens also use G-Sync, the adaptive sync technology that won't leave any traces of tearing here either.

One thing that has often come up in the comment section about these monitors is that 27 inches is too small for a 4K gaming monitor. I do sort of agree with a lot of people that 32 inches would be better, but you have to remember that they're going for volume so I imagine more people probably want a 27-inch monitor, maybe smaller desks or it's just a more friendly size that does more sales. However, there will be other monitors in these sort of ranges that have HDR coming soon as well, and I would be very surprised if that didn't include a 32-inch version.

**HDR: The Elephant in the Room**

One thing that really stands out about these monitors is their HDR (High Dynamic Range) capabilities. They're aiming for class-leading performance, with a thousand nits of peak brightness support for 10-bit color and local dimming with a total of 384 zones. This brings an incredible transformation to your games, with a more vibrant, saturated, and contrasty image that somehow still looks more realistic rather than over-the-top. It's almost got to be seen to be believed.

However, there are a couple of drawbacks that you do need to be aware of. The first one is that there's not that much support for HDR on the PC at the moment, obviously with YouTube and Netflix being exceptions. When it comes to games, they've actually got to be mastered in HDR, and there aren't that many out there - I think only around 30-40. And then perhaps a bigger issue is with the zone backlighting system as in the wrong scenario you can actually get a bit of haloing around objects. This problem is inevitable with LCD technology, but it definitely does put a dent in their claim to be the perfect gaming monitors.

**The Verdict... for Now**

I'm going to leave off here with my initial thoughts on these monitors before my extended testing comes around about a month's time. If you're watching this now and you're wanting to preorder or buy them before the review comes up, I can't tell you whether it's worth buying because I haven't had enough time with it. But what I can say is that if you're seriously considering a monitor that costs as much as two thousand pounds dollars euros, you need to know that you're going to need such a ridiculous PC to drive it, and that there just aren't that many HDR titles out there yet. Your gameplay will be limiting, so I think you've probably already made up your mind.

**Final Thoughts**

I guess I'm rambling now. Thank you very much for watching this video. I'll leave links to the monitors as soon as they're available in the description, along with my cheaper favorites - because, well, there have got to be some options out there for those of you who don't want to shell out two thousand pounds dollars euros. And yes, I will see you next time.
