A Call to Rescue: A Jeep Wrangler Stuck on the Wildcat Trailhead
Just got a call for a Jeep Wrangler that's stuck on the Wildcat trailhead, which is located just off of the Kolob Terrace Road. The vehicle is stuck in snow and mud, and we're heading up there to assess the situation and see if we can get it out. Max and Lady are with us today, and I'm hoping that they won't have to spend too much time in the mud.
I don't like taking Max into the mud too much, so hopefully there's not a lot of mud on the trail ahead. Ed is at work right now, so he won't be able to join us today. He gets off work after lunch, and I'm sure he'll be happy to see what we've got ourselves into.
The Jeep Wrangler that's stuck is just off the right 11 or 12. We don't need to chain up the vehicle because it looks like they're already wrapped in snow chains. The driver asked if we could come and get them, but I'm not sure how to use this new device - it looks like a dynamic rope. I might need some practice using it later.
Let's see if we can get the winch started. Oh no, the line that attaches to the actual winch has broken! Don't worry, we've just gotten a replacement, and it's ready to go. The driver asked if they could come in and help us out, but I'm not sure where their winch is - it seems like it's missing.
Okay, let's get started. We're going to begin by getting the wheels of the Jeep in line with the rope. This will make it easier for us to maneuver the vehicle. Let's grab some gloves and see if there were any other helpers present earlier today.
Once we get moving, we may need to do this in a couple of different bites. We're going to try to flip the Jeep so that you can point out which way is right, without having to back it out. Once we're turned around, we'll put it in Drive and have you help with the throttle. The rope is dynamic, which means I can back up into you as we move. Let's swing wide and turn your wheels so that we can get the Jeep turned around.
I was worried that we might need to break out the snow chains, but it took less time than expected to get the Jeep turned around. It was a bit of work, but using this dynamic rope made all the difference. We were barely moving ourselves before, but with this new approach, we were able to make much better progress.
We're headed down the mountain now, and I'm hoping that everything will go smoothly from here on out. The driver who called us for help is just off the Wildcat trailhead, and we'll do our best to get them back on their way as soon as possible.
