The Mea 2: A Phone That Packs a Punch at an Affordable Price
Jamie may well be the absolute new champions of phone teasing as the company came all the way to London in order to show me this and it is the Mea - it's a great firm that packs a whole bunch of cool tech and comes with a very very affordable price tag. I thought this was lovely what a great idea, but the problem for me is that while this phone is going on sale in 40 countries I'm told those countries won't include the UK or the US so it's not going to be particularly easy to get hold of certainly not for me here in London which is very disappointing.
The Mea has a slim design, making it easy to hold even with its large six-inch screen. The soft gold color on the back is aesthetically pleasing and might remind you of an iPhone. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there's a dual camera unit on the back that allows for zoomed in portrait mode shots, similar to those found on iPhones.
The front of the phone features a fingerprint scanner as well, which adds to its overall design. The six-inch screen goes all the way from edge to edge, and while it might not be as high-resolution as some other screens available, it still provides crisp visuals for apps like Twitter, Instagram, and most games that you'd want to play. In fact, I've found it more than powerful enough to run through most of my favorite games.
One of the standout features of this phone is its Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, which is more than capable of handling demanding tasks without breaking a sweat. It's running on Android 8.1 Oreo, and Jeremy has mentioned that there will be an update to Android P later in the year, so you can expect even more updates down the line.
Now let's talk about price. The Mea is set to go on sale in Europe for around 250 euros, which translates to approximately 250 pounds or $219 USD in the UK and US respectively. This makes it a very affordable option, beating out other budget-friendly phones like the One Plus Six, which falls within a more substantial price range of 400-500.
When it comes to camera capabilities, the Mea has two lenses on its back that allow for zoomed-in portrait mode shots. I had a chance to try them out briefly and was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant colors they produced. The contrast is good, and HDR mode works well too. However, if you're looking for high-quality selfies, this might not be the best option since it only features one front-facing camera.
The Mea also comes with a 3000 milliamp hour battery, which means it has plenty of juice to last throughout your day without needing a recharge. This is quite impressive for an affordable phone that doesn't rely on very large batteries to power its performance. Furthermore, the Mea charges via USB-C, which is becoming increasingly common in modern smartphones and offers faster charging speeds.
Overall, my time with the Mea has been quite positive so far. The combination of a powerful processor, good camera capabilities, and affordable price make it an excellent option for those looking for a budget-friendly phone that still packs a punch in terms of performance. However, what's really disappointing is that this amazing device isn't available for purchase outside of select countries.
