First Drifts with the 400HP SR20

**The SR Project: A Drifting Adventure**

I recently embarked on an exciting project with my friend Marco to take on our S2000's SR and make some significant modifications to improve its performance. One of the key decisions we made was to block off the back port, which was a bold move that required trust in our plan. Marco wasn't convinced at first, but his faith in the process ultimately led us to proceed with the modification.

The block-off procedure involved removing the existing ports and sealing them off with a new sealant. This change aimed to minimize blow-by from entering the engine through the rear ports, allowing us to better manage the airflow coming out of the valve cover. By doing so, we hoped to reduce the amount of oil and coolant that escaped into the combustion chamber.

Despite our efforts, however, we encountered some unexpected issues with the engine's performance. The car would often overheat, causing the temperature gauge to spike. We suspected that the overheating might be related to a leak in the upper water neck, which could have been caused by an air bubble in the system. This bubble was likely introduced when we installed a new fitting, which may have conflicted with the existing cap.

**The Cause of the Overheating**

Further investigation revealed that the car's engine had suffered some damage due to excessive blow-by pressure. The increased blow-by created a significant amount of oil in the combustion chamber, causing the engine to overheat and eventually leading to a loss of power. We realized that the modification we made might have inadvertently introduced a head gasket issue into the mix.

**The Solution: Compression Testing**

To diagnose the problem, I plan to conduct some compression tests on the engine. This will help me determine if there's any damage to the pistons or rings, which could be causing the excessive blow-by pressure. If the test reveals that the head gasket is indeed damaged, we may need to replace it.

**A New Approach: Drifting in Third Gear**

As part of our research, I decided to experiment with driving the car in third gear, using a different diff ratio (4:6) that would help reduce the strain on the engine. This approach could potentially alleviate some of the issues we've encountered so far and bring the engine's performance closer to its optimal range.

**The Future of the SR Project**

While I'm excited about the progress we've made, I must admit that the experience has taught me a valuable lesson: don't underestimate the power of an air bubble in your engine! Despite our best efforts, the car still suffered some damage due to excessive blow-by pressure. Nevertheless, I remain committed to completing the SR project and sharing its journey with you, my dear readers.

In conclusion, I want to thank everyone who has followed me on this adventure so far. Your support means a lot to me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences with you. If you're interested in learning more about the SR project or would like to join us on our journey, be sure to stay tuned for upcoming videos and updates. And remember, always expect the unexpected when it comes to car modifications!

so I'll meet you bad I'm so all over the place without Nicole she's showing up later cuz she felt kind of sleepy and she kind of helps to remind me of stuff I just have really bad memory forgot my camera forgot my Jack and forgot money Alan did a makeover and it was so amazing did it look so good I'm just kidding it's not Alan scars this guy's I think I've seen it before where you add up or if they're actually switching up the layout today so we're doing a little bit of a parade lap first just make sure who knows the layout I forgot my camera at home are you serious yeah oh my god you always get me doing something bad to someone what are you yelling at them now flick them off and you I saw your phone oh my god you always get me yeah you're that person okay I got my super sticky zesty nose on so I don't know it's gonna feel if it's gonna be as wild as before or if it's gonna be extra wild I'm hoping it's just gonna be like a little rocket ship that's what I'm hoping for it's almost time so excited I let's get it oh boy she likes red line I've literally cried right now it's so much fun my eyes are literally watering oh my god oh my god I wish you guys could see my face right now little over the place on that run I thought he used to drive with so much grip but all the grip of us all the power makes it so good we're gonna drive with Matt now he actually goes wives five on his three hundred easy now we just sick eeeh t5 is the fact that I've already gone through a quarter tank of gas like three or four laps that's crazy alright we're about to head out and I'm about to try the oval I normally don't drive it just because my car struggles in third gear but now that we got this a little bit extra power I'm gonna see if we can hang obviously not much experience riding the banks so I kind of ride though and Shiloh just play safe but we'll see if we can push the comfort zone a little bit gents get hot though I smell oil not good how did it get to 2:30 so quick that's crazy that kind of makes me a little concerned cool down car cool down a little nervous that something just happened because on that run it dumped a ton a blow by something really weirds going on this is my rigged up catch Ken set up right now I've seen a lot of people do this before you basically just like cut a hole in the cap of a Gatorade bottle or a water bottle and you can just route the blow by it to there Martin did mention to me there's that cap off the lock back there and actually helped Marcos convinced that it's just aerated oil and that the blow-by is normal maybe my engine just wasn't like super broken and yet I don't know but we'll see I got a like ghetto rig Cash can now so I'll be able to see if there is any more potential issues hey I got that on camera chemicals came back into me where Kelsey go it took both Martin and Dan Kelsey's dad's advice and blocked off this back port Marco didn't want to do it but Marco trust in so we're doing it he didn't want to do it either yeah but we're gonna give it a shot that basically prevents all the blow-by from coming down in the block and then all we have is the stuff coming from the actual valve cover they parted mo say knew it all right so what's going on with you little cash can set up what you put it amazing because you ain't going nowhere and it's on the intake side instead of the exhaust side now so if it does drip because you know it's a little hole main you know then yeah we were a little worried before cuz that smoking Marco thinks that maybe some of the oil over here like found its way over this side we also found that it was thinking quite a bit of water on the upper water neck so we done that clamp down which is gonna plead it again that's probably why my car overheated this is crazy because there's so little 280 class drivers today check out this line that's a crazy Sean's new coupe may be good actually totaled his last show you guys probably haven't seen him in my videos for a while but he's back they reach shelled his car and he's got another pretty red coupe we're about to drive together for the first time in forever after watching through this video I realized that it was a bit all over the place and kind of confusing to follow so I want to do like a little summary and let you guys know what happened maybe why it happened and what I'm gonna do about it one the car ripped I was a little bit more on red line than I would have liked now with the extra power so I have two options one I could switch to the four six diff that I have laying around so I'd be drifting in third instead of second which would just bring it down a little bit might be cool kind of bring the gear issues closer together until I have time to do C do 9 - I had that issue where I think I may have blown my head gasket indicators of that would be a little bit milky looking blow by coolant that won't really bleed why do I think it happened there was a leak that was right on the upper water neck now I couldn't tell that there was a leak there just at normal cruising around and idling because it only became present when I was very pressurized why did it get so much pressure and caused that leak there's a possibility that maybe something to do with this fitting I added here possibly conflicting with the cap even though I took measurements I don't know but all I know is there is an air bubble in the system causing the coolant to read all over the place the car probably overheated Martin thinks that might be the reason why I created so much blow-by out of nowhere not totally abnormal with SRS but it did go from making no blow-by to quite a bit so it's possible that it really broke my rings in if you want to call it that blocking off the crankcase helped tremendously though with the amount of blow by fingers crossed it's not a head gasket but also fingers crossed that if it is a head gasket that's all that was damaged kind of a stupid thing that could have been prevented but I don't know it happens stuff like that just happens you got to accept it so where I plan to go from here tomorrow I am planning on not uploading a video I've been so busy and so involved with the SR that there's a lot of stuff around the house I got to get caught up with I also want to focus on spending some more time with Nicole since I was so busy and involved when I was doing this SR she really wasn't feeling well and that's why she didn't come to the event again probably won't end up uploading a video but I will film it and put it in the next video or whatever but I'm gonna do a compression test to inspect the spark plugs try to get a coolant system tester I don't know what they're called but they basically let you pressurize a system so I can look to see if there's any other weird leaks or anything going on but fingers crossed it's nothing too major I'm sure the figure it out you can think if the car does it feel like it's lost any power so if it is some sort of loss in compression it should hopefully just be the head gasket but anyway guys I thank you guys for watching I'm really stoked on how the car performed little films like this are expected and it's just part of drifting and cool thing is I can share the good with you guys I can share the bad and usually you still like the video usually we'll see though but anyway I will see you guys some hey maybe I don't know we'll see byeand that clipper was pulling out of the garage i straight-up just forgot to bring my camera so it looks like we're like it on the iPhone today I got my GoPros Oh
