The New Apple Watch Ultra 2: A Powerhouse with Sustainable Design and Exciting Features
As I spent time with the new Apple Watch Ultra 2, I was impressed by its impressive features and design. One of the standout aspects is the flashlight, which is now brighter and more convenient to use. When you turn on the digital Crown, the flashlight will automatically turn on, making it a huge plus for users like me who rely on their watch in various situations. The original Ultra had a similar feature, but the new design is made from 95% recycled titanium, which is a significant improvement for sustainability.
The inside of the watch has also undergone significant changes. The S9 chip is shared with the Apple Watch series 9 and performs similarly, but with a few key upgrades. One notable improvement is the on-device processing, which allows the watch to process commands without needing to be connected to Wi-Fi or other devices. This makes it faster and more efficient than before. Another exciting feature is the improved Voice-to-Text dictation, which will allow users to quickly ask Siri for specific health information, such as their sleep patterns. Additionally, Siri will be able to tell you how much sleep you got last night, a feature that was previously unavailable.
But one of the most exciting features I got to try out is the double tap. This is not the same as Apple's Assistive Touch, which has been available on previous models. The new double tap is a separate feature that takes it to another level, allowing users to control their watch with ease. To activate the double tap, simply pinch your forefinger and thumb together twice on the screen. Depending on what you're doing on your watch, this can bring up a variety of features, such as smart stacks of widgets, timers, and even answering and rejecting calls. The accelerometer, gyroscope, and heart rate sensor all work together to make it feel incredibly natural.
I was also impressed by the new modular Ultra watch face, which takes up more screen real estate with additional information like altitude and depth. This feature will be particularly useful for outdoor enthusiasts who want to stay connected to their environment. With numerous complications available, users can customize this watch face to suit their needs. The variety of options is truly impressive.
Finally, the question on everyone's mind: battery life. Apple has maintained the same rating for 36 hours or 72 hours in ultra-low power mode as its predecessor, but I was able to squeeze a bit more out of it by using my original Ultra watch. If you already own an ultra from last year, you may not need to upgrade to the new Ultra 2 due to many of the same features being included in watch OS 10. However, for those who want the latest and greatest, including exclusive features that rely on the S9 chip, this is a tempting option.
At $799, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is certainly a premium offering. As it competes with high-end watches like Garmin and Polar, it's clear that Apple has set the bar high for outdoor enthusiasts who want the best battery life and biggest screen. With its sustainable design, exciting features, and impressive performance, this watch is sure to be a hit among those in the market for an ultra-advanced smartwatch.
As I continue to explore the features of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, I'll have more thoughts to share on what it has to offer. In the meantime, keep tuning in to seeet as we cover all the latest announcements, including everything related to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max. With so much exciting news coming out of Apple's event, it's going to be a thrilling time for tech enthusiasts everywhere.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe upper watch Ultra 2 is official it costs $799 and on the outside it looks fairly similar to last year's Ultra but it's on the inside where most of the significant changes have occurred I got some Hands-On time with it here at Apple Park and I can tell you there are definitely a lot of changes to be excited about but the big one for me is that bright screen the display now hits a maximum brightness of 3,000 knits that is 50% brighter than the original Ultra from last year that only hit 2,000 nits and that by no means was a dim display it was incredibly bright but at 3,000 nits it's going to be super easy to see in bright outdoor situations say like you're at the snow fields or even if you're just outside like me walking your dog on a regular day in the sunlight the flashlight is also going to be a little bit brighter specifically when you turn the digital Crown which is a big plus for me it was one of my wish list items on the outside though the casing is still about4 9 mm case size like on the original Ultra what is new is it is now made of 95% recycled titanium so that is a boon for sustainability the original Ultra was virgin titanium now the other big changes are on the inside they come in the form of the S9 chip this is shared with the Apple Watch series 9 and it does pretty much the same things as on the series 9 just on the ultra form factor a couple of key things to note is improvements to series so it will be now on device processing so it doesn't need to be connected to any kind of Wi-Fi or anything like that in order to process commands it's supposed to be pretty fast as well faster than before Voice to Text dictation is also going to be improved and you'll also be able to do things with Siri like say log certain Health aspects say you want to say ask Siri how much sleep did I get last night you'll be able to talk to your watch and it will be able to tell you really quickly which is something neat over the previous generation Apple watches that you weren't really able to do the other big feature I am most excited about after having some hands- on time with it in the demo room is double tap you might remember that the Apple watch has had Assistive touch for a while which is accessibility gestures to be able to control your watch but this takes it to another level because it's kind of separate from Assistive touch it is actually just active by default so you pinch your forefinger and your thumb together twice as the name suggests and you'll be able to control a whole bunch of different apps depending on context so say you raise your wrist up to see the time and you do a double tap you can bring up those smart stack of widgets that is now part of watch OS 10 you'll also be able to do things like say start and stop timers you'll be able to answer and reject calls as well as send quick messages with that action and it does change dynamically depending on what's on screen and yeah it's using things like the accelerometer the gyroscope and the heart rate sensor as well to actually support double tap I really enjoyed using it in my time really quick time in the demo room with it but I think it's going to be something I use all the time especially cuz you know I walk my dog a lot I have one hand that's dedicated to the leash and one hand for the watch but I can't exactly use this hand to control the watch that easily so I'm going to be using this a lot I think there's a brand new modular Ultra watch face and this one is going to take up more of the screen around the edges with things like your altitude it's also going to have your depth information and even the seconds as well depending on what you want to customize your watch and you can add a whole bunch of complications to this I'm not joking there are so many different slots you can customize this to your heart's content this one's going to be another exciting edition if you are looking at an ultra Now battery life is the question that everybody's going to ask right I know it's the best Apple watch battery you can currently get on the current Ultra it has not changed really on the ultra 2 it's the same rating for 36 hours or 72 hours in the ultra low power mode but still you can actually push it a little bit further if you have an original Ultra you'll know what I mean if you have an ultra from last year you're probably not going to be upgrading year on-ear to the ultra 2 because you're getting a lot of the same features in watch OS 10 things like double tap and that extra Seri functionality on device are going to be exclusive to the ultra 2 because it does rely on that S9 chip but at $799 available on September 22nd the ultra 2 is really stacking up to be a really high-end watch and it's going to compete with the lik of you know your garments your polers and everything more in that kind of ultra outdoor watch space and even if you just want an Apple Watch with the best battery life and the biggest screen this is also a really really tempting option I'll have lots more thoughts on the ultra 2 to share with you make sure to keep it tuned here to seeet we'll have lots of extra coverage including all the stuff that was announced today iPhone 15 iPhone 15 Pro Max everything so keep it locked I'll see you laterthe upper watch Ultra 2 is official it costs $799 and on the
