Everything wrong with the Cheapest E Type Jaguar S1 roadster, with the WORST OIL LEAK EVER!
**A Journey Through British Cars and DIY Repairs**
As I sat in my garage, surrounded by an impressive collection of British cars, I couldn't help but think about the journey that brought me to this point. From a UV light inspection to a DIY repair of sorts, today's adventure was one for the books.
I began by taking a look at the car lift, which had seen some shagging action in its past. The fine naugahyde lining revealed itself under the UV light, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of baby diapers inspiring this fix. "Why not?" I thought to myself as I Googled "car diaper" online. It turned out that these super-absorbent pads could be torn off into little squares, making them perfect for absorbing spills on my car's underside.
With a new plan in place, I headed over to the car and began my DIY repair. I placed the car diaper under the rear main seal, hoping it would absorb any future leaks. As I worked, I couldn't help but think about how this was all inspired by my experiences with two-year-old, who seems to be going through a phase of "overwhelming" diaper blowouts.
The car's oil level was next on my agenda, and I was pleased to see that the new diaper had already started absorbing any excess oil. With the oil topped off, I gave the area a quick tidy before moving on to the exhaust system. It seemed that this was where the real magic happened – or perhaps it was just a matter of finding the right spot to stick the car diaper.
With the exhaust sorted, I turned my attention to the aluminum parts of the car, which had been causing some issues with the oil pan and bell housing. I applied some oil and gave them a quick "haircut" before declaring victory in the repair process. It was over in 30 seconds, much to my surprise.
As I took a closer look at the car's underside, I couldn't help but think about how this project had become a bit of an adventure. The car diaper seemed to be doing its job, and I was relieved to see that there were no signs of exhaust smell emanating from the area. Fingers crossed that it would hold up for a while longer – at least until I could get home and swap it out.
Back in the garage, I took a moment to inspect my handiwork before moving on to check on other British vehicles. The Jag, which had been leaking all over the place, was still running smoothly despite the intermittent low brake pad warning. It seemed that the sensor was getting a little iffy, but otherwise everything was fine.
The Aston Martin Vanquish, with its Flappy paddle gearbox, was another story altogether. I had debated whether or not to send it off for manual conversion work, but so far, I hadn't really noticed any issues. The car's performance was smooth, and the manual transmission seemed to be working perfectly – much like a car from its era.
The Jean-Claude Van Damme Bentley Azure, which I get out once a month or so, had been reliable despite several trips to the dealer for mineral oil leaks. It seemed that this was just a standard issue on these cars, but at least it wasn't causing any problems – yet.
Last but not least, there was the 2011 Range Rover Sport supercharged autobiography, which had been at the dealer's shop for months after being punted by me due to air suspension issues. The dealer had ordered a special wiring harness made in the UK, but at $10,000 or so, I wasn't too keen on the idea of throwing that kind of money at it.
As I looked over my collection of British cars, each with its own unique quirks and challenges, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this journey. From car diapers to oil leaks, every experience had taught me something new about these beautiful machines – and themselves.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enit's beautiful thank you thank you very much yeah what that's from the it's all the way out the door it's like a huge Trail oh okay I hadn't taken it on a long Highway trip yet Wizard and uh hello that's quite a loss yeah wow interesting Kitty marks its spot well welcome to hoopie's garage the dumbest Automotive channel in all of YouTube and I am currently driving in my 1966 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 up to the car Wizards to get everything looked at now in my last video you saw how blown away I was by this card I also did some pretty hard driving with this thing and then I came back to my neighborhood took some turns and noticed the oil pressure was dipping in the turn so that was a little weird and it was four quarts low on oil yeah nothing on the dipstick I added a quart nothing on dipstick out of two nothing on the dip skip added two more finally uh where it was supposed to be so I added four quarts drove some more and now it is dumping and dumping and dumping oil out of what I think is the rear main seal which is pretty much a million dollar wound on this thing so the party's over a little bit but maybe I'll get lucky maybe it's something minor we're heading to the car Wizards now to see and if it is well I have a temporary solution I got ideas but let's head to the Wizards squeezered it's a Jaguar yeah I see a million dollars oh I don't know about that but it is a wonderful car 1966 E-Type Jag it doesn't get any better it sounds really good yeah hop in you have to go for a ride all right 4.2 liter inline six 266 horsepower she moves wow yeah I'm surprised I didn't expect that no it's a beautiful vintage car one of the most beautiful vintage cars of all time but it drives just as good as it looks I can't believe it this car's been maintained but it's totally unrestored are there any Creeks or rattles or anything weird about it does it drive like a modern car almost it's pretty darn close it's a synchronized gearbox yeah uh the brakes are definitely much better than any vintage car I've driven of the era but there is a massive massive oil ink though I can kind of smell something already yeah yeah sometimes a little smoke comes out the vents from getting on the exhaust so that's definitely a thing but otherwise yeah okay isn't this a thing wizard is she got yeah definitely oh so cool it is old school awesomeness I took that turn in and I really smell the oil now yeah I can really smell it now thank you thank you very much yeah what dripping oil all over the place that's from the it's all the way out the door it's like a huge a huge Trail oh okay oh um okay all right here back it up I hadn't taken it on a long Highway trip yet wizard and uh hello yeah wow interesting Kitty marks its Spa it's definitely doing that well let's open this giant Hood before we go up on the lift I suppose well that's definitely foreboding but it looks nice up top the engine was rebuilt about 20 years ago and only about five or six thousand miles that's it yeah wow and it's already leaking oil I mean it is 20 years you saw how good it runs yeah 20 years with SEALS or anything but look at the beautiful triple carburetors there how it goes into the air filter there it's so cool yeah you don't play with carburetors that much though no not really you got rid of them on your Ferrari they're kind of a antique technology I guess but they are cool these ones seem to run pretty good though yeah yeah cool little canister ever filter going into them and then the inline six what's that Lucas the Prince of Darkness yeah but is that just for the windshield washer yes why does it have like a backpack strap holding it on I don't think that's Jaguar Factory no that probably the original strap was rubber or something and it degraded and gone so they just put that on yeah and then there's three little reservoirs over here for what I assume is clutch and brakes at least they have fluid in them it doesn't overheat good and as you can see it's not leaky up here I don't think yeah it looks really good really good double overhead cams Big B oh yeah working on engines you think I know that though yeah yeah you think well you want to put it up and lift and see what that leak is yes we need to find that out for sure and maybe we'll find oh my God I suppose well you're selling your yeah I am selling it but I don't want to sell it with an empty tank oh all right well here's like the blower motor thing too that's pretty cool it says caution the electrical system polarity on this vehicle is negative Earth it's bold negative Earth negative Earth correct the battery polarity must be observed yes because this was at a time when older cars were using positive Earths oh and that would be cruising why would they have a negative to trying to make that clear that's not something that's even relevant today got you yeah all right well up we go everything all right I'm seeing a lot of rusts and I just don't feel comfortable lifting it with this two posts okay until we have the four posts over there I would think that we should take it over there or be safer all right well so you can't get it on the front Wishbone no this arm is not long enough and where I might could lift it on the body it's kind of crusty a little bit I don't trust it okay all right well I'll go over there look at that music right now all right I'll move it over oh there we go what what happened I walked over here I wasn't paying attention I stepped right in this stuff you help you fall and you can't get up are you a senior citizen I'm why is it doing that whenever you put a car well it looks like it's had a few run-ins with a tow truck I think these are the cables scraping against it maybe yeah that looks like the cable's rubbed pretty hard on it yeah and the normal scratches from bottoming out yeah or parking stalls or something like that now now this thing came from someone who owned it for about five years but before that the same guy had it for 50 years 50 years I have all the service records in here well basically him just riding on a piece of paper what he did for 50 years wow along with uh chop manuals I mean you name it it's just absolutely insane but clearly a leak is developed that is a big big humongous oil pan it is so that's the other thing I was driving this thing uh kind of hard it was four quarts low on oil four quarts yeah four quarts why the hell is that why do they zip tie uh or wire tie wood this thing's got a woody and it does nothing it's it's there's metal on either side I have no idea they just put the piece of wood inside the it looks like they use it as a jack point oh you can see it like on this side see how it got smashed in a little bit when he's trying to jack it oh I see that Sonny put in the wood block to save it yeah okay so that makes sense not too redneck no not too bad it's got some uh Dunlop brakes they seem to be doing the job just fine yeah looks good oh boy it's kind of sludgy over here yeah what's this thing that's full of oil it looks like a torsion bar okay that's your spring I don't know why there's oil all over it this oil pressure switch light's not hooked up that's great well the oil pressure gauge works at least yeah looks like this oil filter adapter is leaking but the majority of it oh looks like the rear main seal is just pouring out yeah that's not going to be cheap I don't know what's the it looks like they covered up a little access hole here there's multiple layers of that tape okay oh man it's a wheel all in there yep definitely the rear main seal is just slinging oil everywhere perfect there's our oil smell yep getting onto the exhaust mm-hmm perfect and that's where the oil was going because it was low yeah slow wow yep the oil just keeps going back and back in fact slather all the way back here too where's the differential leak or is it just oil I think it's just oil it's blowing all over back here holy crap there's the inboard brakes that Jags have yep a little bit of green overspray from whenever this thing was repainted yeah it really is not bad under here as far as the body though no I mean there's this little rust spot right here yeah and you know that's something you'd probably want to deal with and then these floors are definitely not original they made these lower floor sections just to make it easier to dry the early cars didn't have this and he said in his notes that he replaced the floors did something himself but I think he did a pretty good job honestly yeah they look pretty good well you've done plenty of rear main seals in your life so here's another one yeah the transmission probably has to come out so yeah when you go in my office and research it uh this is an older car I'm not seeing a lot of these actually I've not seen any of these in my shop I need to see exactly what's all entailed in doing that okay we can get a price together sounds good all right what's the wizard shopping for you're not shopping no I'm trying to figure this out there all my databases that I pay for subscription each month there is nothing listed for that car so you can't get the instructions on how to do it no I can't find anything well I have something for you actually well that's just cool that's to knock off the wheels but it's in there yeah open up in here a paper book well yes you have a database right here it's like having the encyclopedia on the Shelf before the internet when we were doing research assignments in grade school there's an old Hustler magazine no there's not so you don't need any of that that's the service records there you go the complete official Jaguar e there's the Haynes manual mm-hmm this is like the old days where I looked in books there's an auto book this isn't one of these it's got to be let's try the purple one all right so what do you think I've done a lot of these rope seals on older cars and it can be done without pulling a whole lot of stuff apart to drop the oil pan you use a tool called a Sneaky Pete tool it's like a hook that pulls the seal so there's yeah the rear main seal it's in two halves so this is the motor flipped upside down so I'm looking at the book side upside down so it's right way up for us and that's the bottom half of the seal yeah it's two pieces of rope basically they come together okay and if that doesn't work then I'll probably have to pull the transmission and do it that way but I think it's definitely doable but it's not going to be done in 30 minutes how much is going to cost me I think it's probably going to cost you at least two grand if the transmission had to come out if my cheating way works we'll probably half that or less okay well in the meantime you need to order parts and some things and you have some other projects to get finished I also want to know why is this in case the price got too high no I wasn't going to hit you with it no I just thought it was cool for size two yeah well I actually sort of saw the oil leak a little bit before I came here and had a little idea to get me by for a bit so could you indulge me about selling the lift let's do take a look I'm open ears what are you doing I'm seeing if there's been any shagging going on in here this is a UV light well it has fine naugahyde in there so it's gonna wipe right up but actually the result of shagging is what has inspired me for this fix oh so I've been doing a lot of baby diapers recently with the two-year-old and uh I thought why not a car diaper so I Googled card diaper and there are people that sell these super super absorbent pads tear off into little squares these very very high strength magnets so we can put it right under the rear main seal and it'll absorb it so would you put the car up please I can change these once a month or so and be on my Merry way top off the oil put some diaper rash ointment yeah exactly yes my goodness does that sound like a plan not really but it's your car it's not sticking no it sticks to the exhaust I don't I don't think we should put it on the exhaust but why is it sticking because it's aluminum what aluminum oil pan aluminum bell housing oh crap it sticks to the cast iron transmission maybe we could just stick it here here and here oh there we go okay all right bolt okay I think it needs a little bit more of a haircut right there and then we are in business I maybe look at that wizard we fixed it in like 30 seconds it just ruined the resale value anyway I guess you could do some more research in order parts but in the meantime groovy baby oh yeah well so far the diaper is doing the diaper thing I don't have any of that exhaust smell that I was picking up earlier so I assume it's absorbing it just like a baby having a blowout so fingers crossed it gets home and it holds and we'll see how long it holds when it fills up I'll just replace it uh but eventually I'll fix it but we'll get home in the garage see how it's held and also check on my other British vehicles I have I have way too many now all right back in the garage let's check my handiwork ah yeah yeah uh the diaper fail ah yeah that's a blowout I'm starting to see those with the two and a half year old that needs potty training he's starting to uh overwhelm the diaper much like this Jag so yeah anyway somehow I managed to have five British Vehicles now and uh well that's sort of the reality of their beautiful amazing cars but they always need something my wife is out driving the 2017 Bentley bentega so far no issues with that other than the intermittent low brake pad warning brake pads look fine so maybe a sensor is getting a little iffy otherwise that car has been Flawless the Aston Martin Vanquish here 2003 the car Trek II Vanquish sandwiched in here doing really really well actually since the wizard did the whole tune-up on it Flappy paddle gearbox is going strong but I'm still debating whether or not to send it off to have the wiring issue they've ordered a special wiring harness that's being made in the UK to bring in it's going to be thousands and thousands of dollars it's not worth having I should have just converted it over to normal struts and bypassed everything but I'm so deep into it now that I kind of have to so with the Jaguar I'm still very happy with it even though it is a massive expensive oil leak otherwise it drives great it stays cool and just look at the thing I mean how could you be mad at this thing even if it is leaking all over the place just like one of your kids so thank you so much for watchingit's beautiful thank you thank you very much yeah what that's from the it's all the way out the door it's like a huge Trail oh okay I hadn't taken it on a long Highway trip yet Wizard and wiring harness that's being made in the UK to bring in it's going to be thousands and thousands of dollars it's not worth having I should have just converted it over to normal struts and bypassed everything but I'm so deep into it now that I kind of have to so with the Jaguar I'm still very happy with it even though it is a massive expensive oil leak otherwise it drives great it stays cool and just look at the thing I mean how could you be mad at this thing even if it is leaking all over the place just like one of your kids so thank you so much for watching\n"
