I Want to Say Eight Girls Within the Paper Cast Just Human and He Takes Them Into the Castle or Palace and They Are His Concubines for the Year
I want to say eight girls within the paper cast just human and he takes them into the castle or palace and they are his concubines for the year. I said that wrong is chosen as one of these girls and she goes in the palace and that's where the kind of plot unfolds. This book, like I said it's very dark, it deals a lot with rape with sexual assault animal brutality just human consent things like that. It's very scary to think about but I love the way it was written and captivated me from page one. This was a fantasy book that I had no problem immersing myself in there's also a female female romance in this book all I really enjoyed it, I gave it a five out of five, I felt like the ending was kind of rushed and didn't make much sense but overall I'm invested in the storyline and definitely want to continue on with it.
Two Books I Want to Talk About
I gave both five stars, I don't know which one's my favorite of the month I love them equally but for different reasons so I'll just go by in what order I read them in. So first it'll be The Wicked King by Holly Black, this is the second book in the Air of the Folk series, you've heard about the cruel Prince is the sequel to that everybody and their mother read it last year and everybody loved it including me I loved it but I don't think I loved it as much as other people like. I really enjoyed it gave it a five out of five but like I didn't think about it as much as other people did, I'm going to sing a different song for this one because I loved The Wicked King more particularly the ending Holly Black does some damn good cliffhangers and this one was a good cliffhanger overall, the romance in this whole book was great, the hate-to-love it's like hate-to-hate love and I loved it so much, and our main character Jude is just very not your typical main character I feel like with main characters you're really in love with that and you want to see them succeed and agree with their choices, Jude is a very morally gray character a lot of times when I read about Jude I kind of want to punch her in the face because I think she's making horrible decisions and is a horrible person other times I sympathize with her so I love the fact that the series makes me question the freaking main character a ton and the love interest, it's just so like why do I love this but I just do they're addicting, I'm just going to say that five out of five, I loved it, I definitely will say I like The Wicked King more than the first one.
The Last Book I Want to Talk About
You will be super proud of me I finally read Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, I know I hope you're proud of me I'm proud of me this is this book has been on my TBR shelf for like three years now and here we are, we've read it, carry on if you read Fangirl one of her other books it's about a main character named Cath and she writes fanfiction Simon and Snow fanfiction and this is a book all about Simon Snow so it's kind of like a book within a book it's a very much take on Harry Potter but very loosely, it's all about Simon Snow who is kind of the Savior and the Magic's champion and he goes to this boarding magical boarding school is Bass who he thinks is a vampire and he also hates but he also is kind of in love with and it's all about them and their developing relationship also with magic I freaking adored it, I will say the first quarter of it was quite slow I had to push myself to get through but once you get through part one I think this book has four parts in it just picks up, I love Simon and Baz holy crap I love them, I love the way this was written I love how it's a fantasy but it's very much steeped in contemporary setting much like kind of Harry Potter so I'd say if you are trying to get into fantasy and you don't know where to start if you've read Fangirl I would highly recommend reading this it's a great stepping stone into y fantasy, I loved it I thought it was freaking cute as heck so five stars can't wait for Wayward Sun I could officially say that I will be planning to read Ward Sun and I'm freaking stoked about it so yay.
Overall a Really Good Month
I want to say overall a really good month I couldn't wait to read a lot of books in February expect a lot of adult books and expect a lot of romance because February if you've read any of these books I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions and yeah I'll see you in my next video bye
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everybody and welcome to my first reading wrap up of 2019 I think that'll probably the last time I have to say it's the first of this year but you know you have to use that because there's only a few firsts of the year then there's no more firsts at all either way so the first month of 2019 I read eight books which are right here and I'm switching up a little bit of how I do my wrapup so what I usually do for my rapist is I show you how many books I read then I show you them from my least favorite to my favorite read of the entire month I'm still keeping that format but I'm throwing a few things extra in there as well so this is just for me in the future because every December I do my stats and I like look up how what I rated them all that kind of stuff and it it's a lot of data to comprise and it's I got to pull from a lot of different places I don't know why I just do um I could make that really fancy spreadsheet everyone does from let's read but I feel like I'm this too complicated for me and I'm not good in technology at all so this is going to help I look back each month and so I'm going to share with you what genres I read for and how many books I rated which things things like that just a little few statistics at the beginning of each video so like I said I read eight books this month they were all YA books which is very weird to start off the year because I was like I'm going to read all the ad books this I'm going to read so many adult books this year and I am you know I still love ya and I just wanted to read all these books so they're all ya um out of those eight books that I read that are ya Books five of them were fantasy which is a lot for me two were cont contemporary and one was a mystery SL thriller so yeah I read a lot of fantasy because I knew in February I'm going to read all the romance ever so I'm like I better read a lot of fantasy now for Ratings wise for one star I have zero I like never rate books one star for two stars I have zero books as well so that's really good two stars is where I'm like I really didn't like that book for three stars I read three of these books three stars four stars I rated three of these books four stars and and five stars I actually rated two books five stars so starting off the year really good with two Five Star reads so also this year you're going to notice in my reviews and wrap-ups I am doing away with the half stars or 2.5S or 2.7 FS because that's just I don't know why I do that good reads doesn't allow half star so it's just going to be easier for me to rate them on good reads and on here I'm just going to either round up or round down so rating might get a little brutal this year but hopefully that's okay so for all of these books I have reviewed every single one of them except for one all of them can be either found in mashit reviews or a singular review so I'm trying to review books more this year as well so a lot of things are changing but not really on this channel for 2019 now moving into the books that I actually read again I'm going to start with my least favorite book of the month working up to my favorite so the first book I want to talk about is four dead Queens by Astro scol I'm so sorry if I mispronounced it I gave this book three stars this is the first book no no it is is a standalone fantasy book so that's awesome this is all about this place called Quadra I believe and it's split into four quadrants if that sounds familiar you're SGA of Divergent which I thought of a lot while reading this book four quadrants value different things in our life quadrant really values art and fashion one quadrant really values like technology and you know using every amounts of information you can one quadrant really focuses on like um nature and Medicine and all the other things like they're just different type of quadrants like Divergent very reminded me much of Divergent and anyway these four quadrants are ruled by Four Queens and queens meet up all the time they you know discuss politics and what happens to their quadrant and things like that this book actually follows a main character named carolly who is kind of a thief she is a bandit she steals thing and one day she steals really valuable Comm chip and on it shows the murders of these Four Queens hence the title four dead Queens so carolly and this other guy team up to try to make it to the Palace to try to warn about what's going to happen try to find the murderer and all of those many things so that is what this whole book is about I was very underwhelmed by this book I buddy read this with my friend Amy on Instagram who's a court of crowns and quills we both had the same feelings about it I love that it was a standalone also thought it was a great D me novel as well I should mention that but nothing in this book really wowed me it took a lot of different twists and turns but I saw I think the good majority of them coming I wasn't a huge fan of the romance I really didn't think any romance needed to be had at all in this book and the ending was just a little bit too cookie cutter for me like I usually don't mind cookie cutter endings because especially with fantasy books I'm like he went through so much it's okay for them to be happy but this one I feel like it was a little bit too like everything wrapped up a little bit too nicely so overall I would give this a three I'm glad it's a standalone because I don't feel now like really super obligated to read the rest of the series but if you're a really big Avid y fantasy fan check this one out but otherwise like I don't know I know it's harsh but that's just howy the next book I want to talk about really saddens me to be this slow on the list and that is Slayer by kir white you guys know how much I was really excited for this book because I am such a huge Buffy fan like it's Insanity how much of a huge fan I am of Buffy like more news on that later with Buffy I have a lot of exciting announcements coming up for that but I was very excited to read this book and I didn't love it in this book we follow nah and nah is the Watchers Academy and she has a twin sister and they're watch and then Lina actually discovers that she is a Slayer and more accurately she will be the last Slayer ever so she's having to come to grips with that things like that and I just didn't love it I think the main downfall I have with this book was the characters I wasn't in love with the characters none of them gripped me I didn't feel like I don't know I don't know how to explain it but I also thought the plot meandered for quite a bit I'd say the first 75% of the book was just very slow goinging and the last 25% we actually got to see action and you know Buffy things and things like that I will say it kept The Buffy humor which I highly appreciated because I love Buffy humor honestly but overall I just didn't love it I think I was expecting too much of it honestly which can be a good and bad thing while going into a book sometimes you expect low things and you come out it really just amazed me or sometimes you expect way too much of it and it really disappointed you I wouldn't say this really disappointed me but I wanted to really rate it like a four or a five but a three so that's just how it is it will be a series and I will read it because Buffy obviously but I just didn't love it as much as I wanted to and my last three star book I have to share with you is truly devious by Marine Johnson I wasn't planning to read this but then a bunch of lovely ladies asked me to Buddy read and I said sure So I buddy read this with Mel from Mel to the nnie from Amy from record crowns of wills and from Alexa from Alexa loves books and we all had the same feelings about it um this is a book that everyone loved last year it was a really popular ya mystery thriller and I didn't pick it up because I'm not the biggest fan of ya Thrillers I'm just not I don't know if I'm too harsh on them I don't know if I expect too much of them I'm just not sure so very hesitant obviously to pick this up but I bought it because everyone raved about it and I didn't love I mean I thought it was good I just I don't know I don't know if I need to stop reading ya Mysteries alog together because the good majority of them I don't love this one is all about this place called ellingham Academy which is very private very secretive School in Vermont and only a certain number of people get in every year and it's not even based on grades it's based on like what you're into or what can you bring to the table and we follow made a character named Stevie and Stevie is very much interested in like murders and crimes and things like that he's really invested into the mystery and murder that happened at ellenham Academy in like the 30s so in the 30s there was this big murder that happened with inham the guy who graded the school his wife and daughter got kidnapped and another girl from the school got murdered and so Stevie wants to go to the school to uncover what happened and then she goes and she starts to uncover and then she also learns something else is going on behind the scenes really enjoyed the writing style of this but the mystery aspect really let me down I want to say like the first 75% of the book there was not much mystery at all I felt like especially with mystery books you constantly have to be investigating you constantly have to be finding Clues like Nancy Drew is you got to you got to find and look for things and I don't feel like that happened in the first 75% of this book the last quarter we got so much mystery so much action and answers and things like that so I just don't feel like it satisfied my mystery heart enough even though I'm not like a huge mystery heart and the ending I did not love the ending you're going to be a person that either's going to hate or love the ending I did not like the ending whatsoever so I don't know I feel like I'm definitely the unpopular opinion here because everybody loved this book and sadly I did not I know I'm so sorry I'm harsh in this but I don't know what else to say moving on to my three four stars I have this month the first one is famous in a small town by Emma Mills this is my third Emma Mills book I read and I just she's a quid essential why contemperary author I love a good why that that is like my comfort genre this one is about this girl named Sophie who lives in a very small town and a new guy moves in next door and they're also like in a marching band they're trying to go to like this competition and also vaguely there's like this famous country singer that's from their small town it's just kind of you know there's not a really huge plot point I'd say with this book it's mostly about character development and Sophie and romance and things of like that I'd say this is like your typical fluffy cute book that's going to make you smile and it did just that for me I enjoyed it I thought the romance was cute I I loved it so I don't know what else to say about it like a lot of w contemporaries are similar I just I I adored this one other why contemporary that I read this month is our year of Maybe by Rachel L Solomon this one is a contemporary but it's a very sad contemporary this also features a man character named Sophie how weird and it's about Sophie and Peter and they are best friends they've been best friends for years ever since they were little and Peter struggles a lot with his health kidneys are failing and he can't really go outside a lot so Sophie and Peter are just together all the time and Sophie is actually very much in love with Peter and she doesn't know if he reciprocates and turns out she's a match for Peter and she donates one of her kidneys to him and that changes the trajectory of the relationship he can go out now he can go to school he can have social life and he does just that he meets a guy and has a relationship and meanwhile Sophie's just wondering what to do with her life because she's so in love with Peter and she doesn't know how to navigate this I'd say it's a sad one and also like I really wanted to give this a five out of five because I loved her debut novel you miss me when I'm gone but the characters really made me angry they both made choices that were just stupid but then I'm like they're teenagers duh That's supposed to happen but overall I really loved it I love her writing I say if you're really into hard-hitting contemporary books that just kind of hit you in the gut I would highly recommend this one the last fourstar book I have is girls of paper Fire by Natasha Nan hope I pronounce that right this one is a very dark ya fantasy book this is about this world where there's like a demon king and we have different cast and like the paper cast are only human they have no like demon features on them steel cats so they're humans endowed with partial animal demon qualities then we have the moon cast and they are like fully demons they have like horns and wings and stuff like that so we have this world where we have a demon king and every year he takes I want to say eight girls within the paper cast just human and he takes them into the castle or Palace and they are his concubines for the year and our main character Leia Lee I say that wrong is chosen as one of these girls and she goes in the palace and that's where the kind of plot unfolds this book like I said it's very dark it deals a lot with rape with sexual assault animal contemporary books that just kind of hit you in the gut I would highly recommend this one the last fourstar book I have is girls of paper Fire by Natasha Nan hope I pronounce that right this one is a very dark ya fantasy book this is about this world where there's like a demon king and we have different cast and like the paper cast are only human they have no like demon features on them steel cats so they're humans endowed with partial animal demon qualities then we have the moon cast and they are like fully demons they have like horns and wings and stuff like that so we have this world where we have a demon king and every year he takes I want to say eight girls within the paper cast just human and he takes them into the castle or Palace and they are his concubines for the year and our main character Leia Lee I say that wrong is chosen as one of these girls and she goes in the palace and that's where the kind of plot unfolds this book like I said it's very dark it deals a lot with rape with sexual assault animal brutality just human consent things like that it's very scary to think about but I love the way it was written and captivated me from page one this was a fantasy book that I had no problem immersing myself in there's also a female female romance in this book all I really enjoyed it to gave it a five but I felt like the ending was kind of rushed and didn't make much sense but overall I'm invested in the story line and definitely want to continue on with it two books I want to talk about I gave both five stars I don't know which one's my favorite of the month I love them equally but for different reasons so I'll just go by in what order I read them in so first it'll be the wicked King by Holly black this is the second book in the air of the folk series you've heard about the cruel Prince is the sequel to that everybody and their mother read it last year and everybody loved it including me I loved it but I don't think I loved it as much as other people like I really enjoyed it gave it a five out of five but like I didn't think about it as much as other people did I'm going to sing a different song for this one because I loved the wicked King more particularly the ending Holly black does some damn good Cliffhangers and this one was a good Cliffhanger overall the romance in this whole book was great the hate to love it's like hate to Hate love and I loved it so much and our main character Jude is just very not your typical main character I feel like with main characters you're really in love with that and you want to see them succeed and agree with their choices Jude is a very morally gray character a lot of times when I read about Jude I kind of want to punch her in the face because I think she's making horrible decisions and is a horrible person other times I sympathize with her so I love the fact that the series makes me question the freaking main character a ton and the love interest it's just so like why do I love this but I just do they're it's just I mean they're addicting I'm just going to say that five out of five I loved it I definitely will say I like the second one much more than the first one so the last book I want to talk about you will be super proud of me I finally read Carry On by rainbow roll I know I hope you're proud of me I'm proud of me this is this book has been on my TBR shelf for like three years now and here we are we've read it carry on if you read Fang girl one of her other books it's about a main character named Cath and she writes fanfiction snim and snow fanfiction and this is a book all about Simon snow so it's kind of like a book within a book it's a very much take on Harry Potter but very Loosely it's all about Simon snow who is kind of the Savior and the Magic's champion and he goes to this boarding magical boarding school is bass who he thinks is a vampire and he also hates but he also is kind of in love with and it's all about them and their developing relationship also with magic I freaking adored it I will say the first quarter of it was quite slow I had to push myself to get through but once you get through part one I think this book has four parts in it it just picks up I love Simon and baz holy crap I love them I love the way this was written I love how it's a fantasy but it's very much steeped in contemporary setting much like kind of Harry Potter so I'd say if you are trying to get into fantasy and you don't know where to start if you've read Fang girl I would highly recommend reading this it's a great stepping stone into y fantasy I loved it I thought it was freaking cute as heck so five stars can't wait for wward sun I could officially say that I will be planning to read Wayward sun and I'm freaking stoked about it so yay are all the books that I read in January so overall a really good month I can't wait to read a lot of books in February expect a lot of adult books and expect a lot of romance because February if you've read any of these books I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions and yeah I'll see you in my next video bye\n"
