iOS 16.4.1 is Being Pushed Hard, The SAD Reality of iPhone Leaks, iPhone SE 4 is DEAD & More

Apple Weekly: The Latest News and Updates

In this week's episode of Apple Weekly, we're starting off by talking about the latest rumors and news surrounding AR glasses. According to reports, Apple is still working on its highly anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses, but it seems that they might not be released anytime soon. One expert even estimates that the release date could be as late as 2027 or 2030, citing the fact that we haven't seen any official announcements from Apple yet.

However, despite the uncertainty surrounding the AR glasses, there's one thing that's clear: Apple is committed to making them a reality. The company has been investing heavily in research and development, and it's likely that they're working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that their AR glasses are nothing short of revolutionary. Whether or not we'll actually see these glasses released in the near future remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: Apple is taking a bold step into the world of augmented reality.

But before we get too caught up in speculation about the AR glasses, there's another story that's worth discussing. The FBI recently tweeted out a warning about the dangers of using public charging stations, particularly in airports, hotels, and shopping centers. According to the agency, "Bad actors" have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices. The FBI is advising people to carry their own chargers and USB cords, and to use electrical outlets instead of public ones.

This warning isn't new, but it's clear that there's a spike in cases of this happening right now. The FBI wants to make sure that people are aware of the risks and take steps to protect themselves. It's a reminder that even the most seemingly innocuous actions can have serious consequences if you're not careful.

On a more lighthearted note, we've got two crazy AirTag stories for you this week. First up, there was a man in North Carolina who broke into several cars in a hospital parking lot and then stole from the nurse's break room at the hospital. But what really saved the day was when a woman remembered that she had an AirTag on her purse and pinged it to the police, leading them to track down the thief and arrest him.

The thief was arrested for felony larceny charges and is facing a $30,000 bond. It's just another example of how AirTags can be used as real evidence in crimes. And while this story doesn't have a happy ending for the thief, it's clear that the police are starting to take AirTags seriously.

Finally, we've got another AirTag story from California, where a woman had her e-bike stolen and was devastated when she realized she'd lost it forever. But then she remembered that she had an AirTag on the bike and pinged it to her dad, who confronted the thief at his own house and retrieved the bike.

Unfortunately, the thief wasn't charged in this case, but the woman is grateful to have gotten her bike back. It's just another reminder of why you should always call the cops if someone steals from you – things can get ugly quickly.

In other news, Apple has released a new wallet tracker that integrates with Find My. This little device is called Chipolo and it works seamlessly with the Apple ecosystem. The best part? It comes in some colorful versions that are sure to appeal to anyone who's looking for a stylish way to keep track of their belongings.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly in this episode we're going to discuss the latest in the world of iOS including iOS 16.4.1 and why Apple was very adamant for you to update to that version along with an update on iOS 16.5 and what the future holds we're also going to discuss more iOS 17 and iPhone 15 leaks along with the big issue that I have with leaks in general we're going to talk about new unfortunate details on the 15-inch MacBook Air why not to expect a new iPhone SE anytime soon some big new features added to some of your favorite applications another wild airtags story and much more and as always if you guys want to stay updated with all things Apple not only should you subscribe so you don't miss next week's episode but also check out my Apple Dan newsletter so it's the first link down in the description below this is where you're going to get access to my unfiltered takes on the latest Apple news along with a lot more so just make sure to subscribe down there and join the over 4 000 people who have already signed signed up for free all right so let's start by talking about iOS 16.4 and 16.4.1 so iOS 16.4.1 was released last week it was a surprise Friday release and the reason I'm mentioning 16.4 is because just yesterday it was unsigned by Apple Apple stopped signing 16.4 meaning you can no longer upgrade or downgrade to that version and if you're wondering why Apple moved so quickly to unsign iOS 16.4 it's because of those actively exploited bugs that were patched with 16.4.1 so I told you guys those were a pretty big deal in my original what's new video for 16.4.1 and since then there have been multiple people in the jailbreak scene on Twitter basically just telling everybody to downgrade to 16.4 while you can since those two bugs were pretty major I also had a few people tell me that 16.4.1 was more adamant about getting installed than previous versions of iOS so people are telling me they would get notifications much much more than they did for previous update so it seems like apple even on the back end was really trying to hint at users to update a 16.4.1 and that's not something I experienced probably just because I updated on day one but if you had that experience as well please let me know because I find that to be pretty interesting that Apple can kind of you know give more notifications based on how severe an update is in terms of the patches and the updates but as far as everything else and 16.4.1 everything is fine I mean the only issues I'm having are in music so where it says that you're offline turn off airplane mode or connect to Wi-Fi when you can see I am clearly connected to Wi-Fi up there and it does this even when I take it off of Wi-Fi like if I'm on my main phone and I turn on LTE it will still show that I'm offline so this is a bug I'm still having on both 16.4.1 and 16.5 I've also seen a lot of users report similar Wi-Fi issues after updating to 16.4 and 16.4.1 so hopefully 16.5 you know patches that up patches up that Wi-Fi bug in the music bug before the final release and speaking of iOS 16.5 that's what I'm running right here on my iPhone 14 pro Max and it's been running great so far so we did get the second beta this week and there wasn't really anything new or anything major that was included in the update there were quite a few bug fixes but that's about it I did also see some users reports that you can now install updates with less than 50 battery remaining and not be plugged in it can go all the way down to 20 now but I've not been able to confirm that myself now something interesting that apple is doing tonight for TV OS if you're on the latest tbos 16.5 beta 2 you're going to get access to the new multi-view or the quad box feature for sports so it's debuting tonight as of the night I'm recording this on Friday night and this is going to show you like four different screens on Apple TV and as far as other updates this week we did also receive iOS 15.7.5 Macos 11.6 and Mac OS 12.6 point 5 for those on older devices that are not able to update to iOS 16 and Mac OS 13. now these updates are all just security updates they kind of patch up the bugs that we saw patched with 16.4.1 and a few others you're not of course expecting any type of new features or changes it's just going to be security fixes which is really nice to see apple still supporting these old devices so many years later also this past week we got a new update for the airpods including the airpods Pro 2 for the first time in five months now this update was 5e133 and if we go in here you can see that my case number my case version is 54.26.0 after this update however multiple people were telling me that their case version number was not the same and that their battery drain issues have not been solved because they are not on that same case number which I found to be pretty interesting because ever since updating my battery drain has completely gone away on the airpods Pro 2 which is really nice but as far as any type of other changes on any of my other airpods I've really not noticed anything despite people saying that their you know active noise cancellation got better and you know people are swearing up and down that the sound quality got better I've personally not noticed any difference and a lot of times it's really just Placebo when these new updates come out and just a quick update on the performance and the battery life I do want to say that standby time on 16.5 beta 2 is definitely improved and the reason I say that is because I accidentally left my phone you know just on for multiple hours earlier today and you can see I left it on right here and you can see it lasted several hours and it barely went down I obviously it did drop in battery because I was in the home application because see pretty much from like I think I left it right there at three so basically from three o'clock all the way till past nine o'clock for over six hours I left it there and it only got down to like you know 80 percent after being at you know under 100 so pretty impressive standby time here for Io OS 16.5 at beta 2. I don't think it's better still than 16.4.1 at least not in my testing but at least it's not you know getting any worse especially for a beta it's good to see that battery life is so good on 16.5 beta 2. but as far as iOS 16.4.1 which I am running on my main device I don't really have anything new to share in terms of performance or battery life I don't want to sound like a broken record saying the same thing every week so no change in 16.4.1 from last week's episode all right so let's talk about what to expect next and I'll talk about this keyboard here in a moment but let's talk about what to expect next from Apple so next week is going to be the week of April 17th and I can see apple releasing iOS 16.5 beta 3 early in the week most likely on Tuesday the 18th now of course Apple could always skip another week one last time but I think based on history we should see that third beta right there on the 18th now as far as 16.4.2 I don't know why I keep getting questions about 16.4.2 when it's never really been you know confirmed or really talked about and as I mentioned last week I think it's possible to see a 16.4.2 I don't think it's likely I think it's going to take another you know actively exploited bug for Apple to release that but it is a possibility at some point you know maybe around the end of April if at all but I think you know it's a pretty slim chance of seeing a 16.4.2 at this point especially because the 16.5 beta or the 16.5 final rather will be dropping in May so we will see 16.5 the final release at some point in May and then also Mac Rumors just shared some info that they found in their analytics that iOS 16.6 is being tested so the first beta of 16.6 is already being tested now I would not expect a final release of 16.6 until like June or July because of course in June right there on the 5th is WWDC which is when we will see iOS 17 beta 1. so really a lot to look forward to in terms of software but don't expect anything major of course until iOS 17 right there on June 5th okay so now I want to cover some more iOS related news and other tidbits before the main News section of this episode so the first thing I want to talk about is Apple's high yield savings account so this of course is the future that we saw introduced last year at the end of last year and now it is finally being rumored to launch on Monday this upcoming Monday so it's not going to require 16.4.1 or 16.5 so if you're on an older version you will still be able to use it but you know we don't really know what the interest rate is going to be so this of course is the high yield savings for your Apple pay cash so you will collect interest on that money as it just sits there instead of just you know losing to inflation so it's going to be really interesting to see what the interest rate you know apple offers is so I know you're probably sick of hearing about Tick Tock being banned in the U.S however some big news just happened this week and the Wall Street Journal reports that Montana lawmakers voted 54-43 in favor of approving a bill that would ban Tick Tock in the state of Montana not just for government officials or not just in a school for any device in Montana now the governor of Montana has not signed this bill into law just yet and even if he did it would not go into effect until January 1st 2024 but it's still very interesting especially the violation so it says that you will be fined at ten thousand dollars per violation so and what's interesting here is that's not to the users like if you downloaded Tick Tock illegally in Montana you won't be charged ten thousand it looks like bike dance the company who owns Tick Tock will be charged ten thousand dollars every time somebody downloads Tick Tock in a band estate which is pretty interesting okay so now let's talk about my keyboard because I know you're probably wondering why am I using SwiftKey on my device and the reason being is because it just got updated and it now integrates with Bing AI so you'll see right over here if you update your SwiftKey you have the Bing AI little icon right there and it comes with three features so for first off you can see I'm in the Notes application and we have a search so we can actually search the web straight from any application so if I do that I tap on search you can see I'm browsing the web from the Notes application which is pretty neat and you could also tap that button right there to switch to an image search which is pretty interesting and you can see it just copied something and I can just go up here and paste straight from there so it's a really nice integration there's also this tone tab so if I type in Hi how are you it's going to tell me multiple ways to say that better so I guess the professional way of saying Hi how are you is greetings how are you doing today casual is hey what's up polite hello how are you feeling today social post hey there how's it going pretty cool and then of course we have the chat button right here which just takes you into the Bing AI you know chat GPT type interface so of course being AI I think is great I think it's the second best behind you know chat GPT I think it's much better than Barts and you can do you know a conversation style of more creative more balanced or more precise so if you're into a AI at all I think you should definitely try out this new update for the SwiftKey application and the SwiftKey keyboard the Truecaller application also got updated this past week so this of course will tell you who an unknown number is that will tell you the caller ID and the new update gives you essentially live caller ID kind of you know you do have to set up a shortcut and then tell Siri to search Truecaller and then it will show you the live caller ID like while that person is calling you which is pretty neat and speaking of applications that got new features this past week the YouTube application got several new features for YouTube premium subscribers so if you are a YouTube a premium user you will get access to a few new features so the first one is this right here it says 1080p premium so this is enhanced bitrate so this is basically just an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p you will see it on some videos If you go into quality and then into advanced you will see it I found that it does you know make the quality a little bit better if you're watching something that's fast paced like sports but it's not really a big difference over 1080p but still an exclusive feature for premium users another new feature is queuing so we can now finally choose which videos are going to play after the one that we are currently watching I don't have access to this just yet but you will be able to do that by tapping on the three dots and then Qing we also have continue watching which is where you can pick up where you left off when you're using other devices now one that I found pretty interesting and I was kind of against it at first but I've actually liked it lately is smart downloads so this will essentially you know put recommended videos into your library so let you know you can turn this off it's actually off by default but if you go into here and then go to downloads and then you tap on the three dots up in the top right and then go to settings and then you will see right here that we have recommend downloads and once you have that enabled and you are connected to Wi-Fi your phone will start downloading recommended videos to watch when you don't have signal and then we have share Play support that is coming soon where you'll be able to watch videos together with your friends on FaceTime if you are a Spotify user you might want to go ahead and update your Spotify application because there is now a new lock screen widget so if you go to your lock screen and go to the widget section you will notice that we have a new Spotify widget so all it is is just a quick way to get into the Spotify application there's nothing else for now but you can add this here and it will take you right in to Spotify once you tap on it from the lock screen now if you're a fan of pizza and you have carplay in your car you can actually now order Domino's Pizza using carplay so Domino's just announced this week that customers in the US can place an order a pickup order using carplay however you cannot freely choose the toppings in the car as the functionality is only available for pre-selected or recently placed orders so you can still order it just won't be able to be as customizable as if you were to you know order it on your phone or in the store but still pretty cool you can order Domino's straight from your car that's 2023 if I've ever seen it a new Steve Jobs book was also released this past week so it's called make something wonderful Steve Jobs and his own words it is a completely free book you could also get it as an audiobook it is number one in the top charts in the books application right now now as far as iOS 17 goes some leaks and rumors were kind of posted around online this past week and as I've always said and the reason I didn't make a video on this is because most of these are just simply not going to come true I mean software leaks are notorious for just not being true unless they are released like the week leading up to that software release like the worldwide developers conference but nonetheless here's a list of potentially what could be coming with iOS 17 but again take everything with a massive grain of salt the control center is said to have major changes towards UI and customization the dynamic Island will do a lot more than it could on iOS 16 more settings for the always on display more Focus mode filters notification changes and additional options and settings custom accessibility settings which we've actually seen leaked in iOS 16 code so we already know that's coming we thought it was going to come in iOS 16 but it looks like it may be coming in 17 instead active widgets are in testing and this is going to bring one tap buttons sliders and more making widgets Dynamic car key improvements and more car implementations into the wallet application Health app UI changes especially regarding favorites and health changes to the camera application and it says may only be implemented into the iPhone 15 software not just all iOS 17 devices we also have heavily improved search and Spotlight and then of course the last one is a lot of AR kit apis and Frameworks which of course is leading up to the AR VR headset the Apple should also be unveiling at the worldwide developers conference so again take everything with a grain of salt Apple can and will change things very frequently when it comes to software it's a lot easier to change things last minute with software than it is with Hardware alright so now let's move on to the latest Apple news alright so let's start with the 15-inch MacBook Air because in my latest issue of the appleden new letter I called this my dream MacBook a 15 inch MacBook Air is like my dream MacBook and we should see it announced at the worldwide developers conference but now it's looking like it might not be everything we had hoped for and I say that because Mark German just reported this the screen resolution is equal to that of the 14 inch high-end MacBook Pro that would mean that the larger MacBook Air would run the same resolution as the MacBook Pro but with slightly less sharpness and when referencing the performance he said the chip and the new laptop has eight main processing cores and 10 Graphics cores just like the current M2 the computer also includes 8 gigabytes of memory in line with the existing MacBook Air so it looks like we might not be seeing the M3 chip in this new 15-inch MacBook Air which is really really frustrating because I was really looking forward to seeing M3 announced at this event now it's still possible to see like a lower tier version of the M3 and this MacBook Air but I think that this report is kind of hinting at the fact that we're going to get an M2 Chip or some form of the M2 Chip in this new Macbook Air he also says that apple is working on new versions of the 13-inch MacBook Air the 24 inch iMac and the entry level 13 inch MacBook Pro so that 13 inch MacBook Pro apparently is still going to exist alongside a 15 inch MacBook Air so he says that and then he also says that the next round of 14 inch and 16 inch MacBook Pros are also expected in the first half of 2024 and those will definitely include at the M3 chip now we also got some new details on the 27 inch Studio display Pro or whatever it's going to end up being called a 27 inch mini LED display so ming TI quo just reported that mass production has been delayed to 2024 or early 2025 so we were hoping to see it this year but it looks like that's not going to happen and this is also likely due to the fact that the Mac Pro is just simply falling behind in development it's been delayed so many times now but at least it looks like we're still going to see that 27 inch mini LED display because the same cannot be said of about the iPhone se4 that so many people including myself were very hyped about because we were going to see the iPhone 10r style for an iPhone SCA budget device it was going to be really nice but apparently that's not coming anymore he said that the iPhone se4 was actually an engineering prototype to test Apple's in-house 5G chip and that there are no plans for mass production or sales and he followed that up by saying I think iPhone se4 is not currently part of Apple's new product planning for 2024 or 2025 so yeah if you're a fan of budget friendly iPhones and the iPhone SE this is really bad news but something that might not be so awful if you are a fan of actual buttons and not haptic buttons like we have on the home button of the iPhone se you might be pleased to know that the iPhone 15 Pro might still have those mechanical volume buttons after all so remember how we heard from multiple sources that the iPhone 15 Pro would have those unified at volume buttons that would not be actual buttons but they'd be the happy buttons yeah that's not happening anymore apparently because Ming Chi quo and Jeff poo are both saying that the volume rockers will be the same as previous models no haptic engine or anything going on there however the good news is that the big change to the mute switch is still on track to actually come on the iPhone 15 Pro so this is going to be where the mute switch gets turned into a button that's going to be customizable like the action button on the Apple watch Ultra and I'm still just wondering how that's going to work with the mute switch being a button now I know a lot of people are against that I think it's pretty cool especially if we can customize it I think it's going to be much better and more reliable than like backtap where you tap on the back of a phone I think pressing that button will be better and easier but I'm also worried about you know accidentally touching it when you're in your pocket pulling it out of your pocket and things like that so I don't know what do you guys think about this mute button now let me sit back and ask you a question real quick what do you think about the last few stories I told you have any of those stories had anything in common to you anything yeah well it's that the previous leaks the previous rumors were just completely wrong you know things change things got delayed whatever the case things were wrong the rumors that we heard beforehand were wrong now I know that's the nature of leaks and rumors that's the whole fun of it is to you know speculate on something if it doesn't happen so what but you know that's that's for people who have been in this game for a while and the problem I have with leaks right now and I went into this in my newsletter but is that a lot of new people especially like new to the leaks and rumors game and things like that they expect everything from Apple so when they don't get everything in the leaks they're disappointed at Apple I'm just gonna wait till the next year I'm gonna wait till the next year so they have you know the quad camera setup or whatever it is you know people just take these leaks and rumors way too serious especially this far out so you know I'm gonna still cover these leaks and rumors because it's fun you know you guys like to see it as well it's fun to speculate on but take everything with a grain of salt like even from the most reliable people take it from a grain of salt when we're this far out now some of the things like you know the mute switch and things like that people are on the assembly line they're seeing these products like actually being passed through the assembly line so these things that we're hearing about are actually happening but things do change so just be aware of that and don't put too much expectation don't get your hopes up way too high for the iPhones just based on leaks that come out several months before the actual product is ready but anyways let's continue speculating because why not so let's look into 2026 and 2027 when Ming Chi quo says we might actually see the Apple glasses that we've been hearing about for a long time now so this is going to come after the Apple AR VR headsets and of course after the light version of the AR VR headset the cheaper version of that so this is going to be kind of the evolution of the AR VR headset it's going to turn into glasses that is actually still on track and I remember hearing about those apple glasses like leaks and rumors oh it's coming next year like three years ago so 2026 2027 I think even that is kind of early like I honestly can't see it to like 27 2027 or like to 2030 honestly at this point because we haven't even seen the headset yet so don't get your hopes up for that but it is good news that apple is still working on these AR glasses okay so now we need to discuss something that's important enough for the FBI to tweet about it and this is related to iphones so the FBI tweeted about the dangers of charging your phone in public so here's what they tweeted avoid using free charging stations and airports hotels or shopping centers Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead so this has been common practice for a very long time now like since the invention of mobile chargers you know I feel like I've heard about this for so long now but for the FBI to tweet something out like this it tells me that there must be a big spike in cases of this happening so there must be some type of new vulnerability that these Bad actors are exploiting that's out there in the wild right now so be aware of this is definitely happening right now other wise I went out of tweeted that you know so many years late after that's been a known thing for a while now so tell your friends and family especially those that are not super tech savvy to avoid using like those little USB ports or Chargers that are already out there you bring your own have your own cord have your own block and plug it into an outlet like you do at home and then finally you guessed it another crazy air tags story actually two crazy air tag stories so last week we got a little violent with that story this week is not super violent so don't worry but anyways this first one happened in North Carolina where a man broke into several cars in a hospital parking lot and then decided to go into the hospital and continue stealing this time from the nurse break room the nurse's break room so he got away you know nobody caught on to him until they were leaving and noticed things were stolen you know and nobody contacted police officers or anything but and you know where this is going thankfully a woman had an air tag and a purse that this guy stole and then after telling the police about the air tag and then giving them the location of where the thief was police track them to a nearby hotel where he was attempting to leave in his car but when police started talking to him they told the woman who was with them as well to Ping the air tag and what do you know the air tag was pinging right in his back seat easy case he was arrested on felony larceny charges and is facing a thirty thousand dollar Bond so it's great to see police you know actually encouraging the use of air tags nowadays and actually you know using them as real evidence because I remember when they first came out police were not taking them serious so it's really great to see this meanwhile in California a woman had her e-bike stolen and after losing hope of ever getting it back because it had been a month she somehow remembered super late that she had an air tag on the bike so a month after it was stolen her and her dad confronted the thief at his own house and took the bike back without any violence now unfortunately the thief was never charged which is just one reason you should always call the cops and not confront them because you really never know what people are capable of these days but still it's good to see that an air tag saved the day for that e-bike and by the way if you want an air tag like tracker especially for your wallet this little chipolo wallet tracker is awesome so it integrates with find my It Works in the find my application Apple actually sells this in their stores I covered this a few weeks back and chipolo actually sent some of these over so pretty cool it's a Tracker that works natively with the find my application they even have some like colorful versions of these air tag like tracker so pretty cool check them out now if you want to see more stories and opinions and curated wallpapers check out my Apple Den newsletter down in the description below it's also good if you're just more of like a reading person I mean I'm a video person so I can't imagine you know reading over watching video which is why you guys probably watch these anyways but if you're the reading type check out my newsletter you may like it it's free really no risk you could always unsubscribe if you don't like what I post out there but anyways hope you guys enjoyed this episode this video episode of Apple weekly if you did I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe so you don't miss next week's episode but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see see you soonwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly in this episode we're going to discuss the latest in the world of iOS including iOS 16.4.1 and why Apple was was released last week it was a surprise Friday release and the reason I'm mentioning 16.4 is because just yesterday it was unsigned by Apple Apple stopped signing 16.4 meaning you can no longer upgrade or downgrade to that version and if you're wondering why Apple moved so quickly to unsign iOS 16.4 it's because of those actively exploited bugs that were patched with 16.4.1 so I told you in music so where it says that you're offline turn off airplane mode or connect to Wi-Fi when you can see I am clearly connected to Wi-Fi up there and it does this even when I take it off of Wi-Fi like if I'm on my main phone and I turn on LTE it will still show that I'm offline so this is a bug I'm still having on both 16.4.1 and 16.5 I've also seen a lot of users report similar Wi-Fi issues after updating to 16.4 and 16.4.1 so hopefully 16.5 you know patches that up patches up that Wi-Fi bug in the music bug before the final release and speaking of iOS 16.5 that's what I'm running right here on my iPhone 14 pro Max and it's been running great so far so we did get the second beta this week and there wasn't really anything new or anything major that was included in the update there were quite a few bug fixes but that's about it I did also see some users reports that you can now install updates with less than 50 battery remaining and not be plugged in it can go all the way down to 20 now but I've not been able to confirm that myself now something interesting that apple is doing tonight for TV OS if you're on the latest tbos 16.5 beta 2 you're going to get access to the new multi-view or the quad box feature for sports so it's debuting tonight as of the night I'm recording this on Friday night and this is going to show you like four different screens on Apple TV and as far as other updates this week we did also receive iOS 15.7.5 Macos 11.6 and Mac OS 12.6 point 5 for those on older devices that are not able to update to iOS 16 and Mac OS 13. now these updates are all just security updates they kind of patch up the bugs that we saw patched with 16.4.1 and a few others you're not of course expecting any type of new features or changes it's just going to be security fixes which is really nice to see apple still supporting these old devices so many years later also this past week we got a new update for the airpods including the airpods Pro 2 for the first time in five months now this update was 5e133 and if we go in here you can see that my case number my case version is 54.26.0 after this update however multiple people were telling me that their case version number was not the same and that their battery drain issues have not been solved because they are not on that same case number which I found to be pretty interesting because ever since updating my battery drain has completely gone away on the airpods Pro 2 which is really nice but as far as any type of other changes on any of my other airpods I've really not noticed anything despite people saying that their you know active noise cancellation got better and you know people are swearing up and down that the sound quality got better I've personally not noticed any difference and a lot of times it's really just Placebo when these new updates come out and just a quick update on the performance and the battery life I do want to say that standby time on 16.5 beta 2 is definitely improved and the reason I say that is because I accidentally left my phone you know just on for multiple hours earlier today and you can see I left it on right here and you can see it lasted several hours and it barely went down I obviously it did drop in battery because I was in the home application because see pretty much from like I think I left it right there at three so basically from three o'clock all the way till past nine o'clock for over six hours I left it there and it only got down to like you know 80 percent after being at you know under 100 so pretty impressive standby time here for Io OS 16.5 at beta 2. I don't think it's better still than 16.4.1 at least not in my testing but at least it's not you know getting any worse especially for a beta it's good to see that battery life is so good on 16.5 beta 2. but as far as iOS 16.4.1 which I am running on my main device I don't really have anything new to share in terms of performance or battery life I don't want to sound like a broken record saying the same thing every week so no change in 16.4.1 from last week's episode all right so let's talk about what to expect next and I'll talk about this keyboard here in a moment but let's talk about what to expect next from Apple so next week is going to be the week of April 17th and I can see apple releasing iOS 16.5 beta 3 early in the week most likely on Tuesday the 18th now of course Apple could always skip another week one last time but I think based on history we should see that third beta right there on the 18th now as far as 16.4.2 I don't know why I keep getting questions about 16.4.2 when it's never really been you know confirmed or really talked about and as I mentioned last week I think it's possible to see a 16.4.2 I don't think it's likely I think it's going to take another you know actively exploited bug for Apple to release that but it is a possibility at some point you know maybe around the end of April if at all but I think you know it's a pretty slim chance of seeing a 16.4.2 at this point especially because the 16.5 beta or the 16.5 final rather will be dropping in May so we will see 16.5 the final release at some point in May and then also Mac Rumors just shared some info that they found in their analytics that iOS 16.6 is being tested so the first beta of 16.6 is already being tested now I would not expect a final release of 16.6 until like June or July because of course in June right there on the 5th is WWDC which is when we will see iOS 17 beta 1. so really a lot to look forward to in terms of software but don't expect anything major of course until iOS 17 right there on June 5th okay so now I want to cover some more iOS related news and other tidbits before the main News section of this episode so the first thing I want to talk about is Apple's high yield savings account so this of course is the future that we saw introduced last year at the end of last year and now it is finally being rumored to launch on Monday this upcoming Monday so it's not going to require 16.4.1 or 16.5 so if you're on an older version you will still be able to use it but you know we don't really know what the interest rate is going to be so this of course is the high yield savings for your Apple pay cash so you will collect interest on that money as it just sits there instead of just you know losing to inflation so it's going to be really interesting to see what the interest rate you know apple offers is so I know you're probably sick of hearing about Tick Tock being banned in the U.S however some big news just happened this week and the Wall Street Journal reports that Montana lawmakers voted 54-43 in favor of approving a bill that would ban Tick Tock in the state of Montana not just for government officials or not just in a school for any device in Montana now the governor of Montana has not signed this bill into law just yet and even if he did it would not go into effect until January 1st 2024 but it's still very interesting especially the violation so it says that you will be fined at ten thousand dollars per violation so and what's interesting here is that's not to the users like if you downloaded Tick Tock illegally in Montana you won't be charged ten thousand it looks like bike dance the company who owns Tick Tock will be charged ten thousand dollars every time somebody downloads Tick Tock in a band estate which is pretty interesting okay so now let's talk about my keyboard because I know you're probably wondering why am I using SwiftKey on my device and the reason being is because it just got updated and it now integrates with Bing AI so you'll see right over here if you update your SwiftKey you have the Bing AI little icon right there and it comes with three features so for first off you can see I'm in the Notes application and we have a search so we can actually search the web straight from any application so if I do that I tap on search you can see I'm browsing the web from the Notes application which is pretty neat and you could also tap that button right there to switch to an image search which is pretty interesting and you can see it just copied something and I can just go up here and paste straight from there so it's a really nice integration there's also this tone tab so if I type in Hi how are you it's going to tell me multiple ways to say that better so I guess the professional way of saying Hi how are you is greetings how are you doing today casual is hey what's up polite hello how are you feeling today social post hey there how's it going pretty cool and then of course we have the chat button right here which just takes you into the Bing AI you know chat GPT type interface so of course being AI I think is great I think it's the second best behind you know chat GPT I think it's much better than Barts and you can do you know a conversation style of more creative more balanced or more precise so if you're into a AI at all I think you should definitely try out this new update for the SwiftKey application and the SwiftKey keyboard the Truecaller application also got updated this past week so this of course will tell you who an unknown number is that will tell you the caller ID and the new update gives you essentially live caller ID kind of you know you do have to set up a shortcut and then tell Siri to search Truecaller and then it will show you the live caller ID like while that person is calling you which is pretty neat and speaking of applications that got new features this past week the YouTube application got several new features for YouTube premium subscribers so if you are a YouTube a premium user you will get access to a few new features so the first one is this right here it says 1080p premium so this is enhanced bitrate so this is basically just an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p you will see it on some videos If you go into quality and then into advanced you will see it I found that it does you know make the quality a little bit better if you're watching something that's fast paced like sports but it's not really a big difference over 1080p but still an exclusive feature for premium users another new feature is queuing so we can now finally choose which videos are going to play after the one that we are currently watching I don't have access to this just yet but you will be able to do that by tapping on the three dots and then Qing we also have continue watching which is where you can pick up where you left off when you're using other devices now one that I found pretty interesting and I was kind of against it at first but I've actually liked it lately is smart downloads so this will essentially you know put recommended videos into your library so let you know you can turn this off it's actually off by default but if you go into here and then go to downloads and then you tap on the three dots up in the top right and then go to settings and then you will see right here that we have recommend downloads and once you have that enabled and you are connected to Wi-Fi your phone will start downloading recommended videos to watch when you don't have signal and then we have share Play support that is coming soon where you'll be able to watch videos together with your friends on FaceTime if you are a Spotify user you might want to go ahead and update your Spotify application because there is now a new lock screen widget so if you go to your lock screen and go to the widget section you will notice that we have a new Spotify widget so all it is is just a quick way to get into the Spotify application there's nothing else for now but you can add this here and it will take you right in to Spotify once you tap on it from the lock screen now if you're a fan of pizza and you have carplay in your car you can actually now order Domino's Pizza using carplay so Domino's just announced this week that customers in the US can place an order a pickup order using carplay however you cannot freely choose the toppings in the car as the functionality is only available for pre-selected or recently placed orders so you can still order it just won't be able to be as customizable as if you were to you know order it on your phone or in the store but still pretty cool you can order Domino's straight from your car that's 2023 if I've ever seen it a new Steve Jobs book was also released this past week so it's called make something wonderful Steve Jobs and his own words it is a completely free book you could also get it as an audiobook it is number one in the top charts in the books application right now now as far as iOS 17 goes some leaks and rumors were kind of posted around online this past week and as I've always said and the reason I didn't make a video on this is because most of these are just simply not going to come true I mean software leaks are notorious for just not being true unless they are released like the week leading up to that software release like the worldwide developers conference but nonetheless here's a list of potentially what could be coming with iOS 17 but again take everything with a massive grain of salt the control center is said to have major changes towards UI and customization the dynamic Island will do a lot more than it could on iOS 16 more settings for the always on display more Focus mode filters notification changes and additional options and settings custom accessibility settings which we've actually seen leaked in iOS 16 code so we already know that's coming we thought it was going to come in iOS 16 but it looks like it may be coming in 17 instead active widgets are in testing and this is going to bring one tap buttons sliders and more making widgets Dynamic car key improvements and more car implementations into the wallet application Health app UI changes especially regarding favorites and health changes to the camera application and it says may only be implemented into the iPhone 15 software not just all iOS 17 devices we also have heavily improved search and Spotlight and then of course the last one is a lot of AR kit apis and Frameworks which of course is leading up to the AR VR headset the Apple should also be unveiling at the worldwide developers conference so again take everything with a grain of salt Apple can and will change things very frequently when it comes to software it's a lot easier to change things last minute with software than it is with Hardware alright so now let's move on to the latest Apple news alright so let's start with the 15-inch MacBook Air because in my latest issue of the appleden new letter I called this my dream MacBook a 15 inch MacBook Air is like my dream MacBook and we should see it announced at the worldwide developers conference but now it's looking like it might not be everything we had hoped for and I say that because Mark German just reported this the screen resolution is equal to that of the 14 inch high-end MacBook Pro that would mean that the larger MacBook Air would run the same resolution as the MacBook Pro but with slightly less sharpness and when referencing the performance he said the chip and the new laptop has eight main processing cores and 10 Graphics cores just like the current M2 the computer also includes 8 gigabytes of memory in line with the existing MacBook Air so it looks like we might not be seeing the M3 chip in this new 15-inch MacBook Air which is really really frustrating because I was really looking forward to seeing M3 announced at this event now it's still possible to see like a lower tier version of the M3 and this MacBook Air but I think that this report is kind of hinting at the fact that we're going to get an M2 Chip or some form of the M2 Chip in this new Macbook Air he also says that apple is working on new versions of the 13-inch MacBook Air the 24 inch iMac and the entry level 13 inch MacBook Pro so that 13 inch MacBook Pro apparently is still going to exist alongside a 15 inch MacBook Air so he says that and then he also says that the next round of 14 inch and 16 inch MacBook Pros are also expected in the first half of 2024 and those will definitely include at the M3 chip now we also got some new details on the 27 inch Studio display Pro or whatever it's going to end up being called a 27 inch mini LED display so ming TI quo just reported that mass production has been delayed to 2024 or early 2025 so we were hoping to see it this year but it looks like that's not going to happen and this is also likely due to the fact that the Mac Pro is just simply falling behind in development it's been delayed so many times now but at least it looks like we're still going to see that 27 inch mini LED display because the same cannot be said of about the iPhone se4 that so many people including myself were very hyped about because we were going to see the iPhone 10r style for an iPhone SCA budget device it was going to be really nice but apparently that's not coming anymore he said that the iPhone se4 was actually an engineering prototype to test Apple's in-house 5G chip and that there are no plans for mass production or sales and he followed that up by saying I think iPhone se4 is not currently part of Apple's new product planning for 2024 or 2025 so yeah if you're a fan of budget friendly iPhones and the iPhone SE this is really bad news but something that might not be so awful if you are a fan of actual buttons and not haptic buttons like we have on the home button of the iPhone se you might be pleased to know that the iPhone 15 Pro might still have those mechanical volume buttons after all so remember how we heard from multiple sources that the iPhone 15 Pro would have those unified at volume buttons that would not be actual buttons but they'd be the happy buttons yeah that's not happening anymore apparently because Ming Chi quo and Jeff poo are both saying that the volume rockers will be the same as previous models no haptic engine or anything going on there however the good news is that the big change to the mute switch is still on track to actually come on the iPhone 15 Pro so this is going to be where the mute switch gets turned into a button that's going to be customizable like the action button on the Apple watch Ultra and I'm still just wondering how that's going to work with the mute switch being a button now I know a lot of people are against that I think it's pretty cool especially if we can customize it I think it's going to be much better and more reliable than like backtap where you tap on the back of a phone I think pressing that button will be better and easier but I'm also worried about you know accidentally touching it when you're in your pocket pulling it out of your pocket and things like that so I don't know what do you guys think about this mute button now let me sit back and ask you a question real quick what do you think about the last few stories I told you have any of those stories had anything in common to you anything yeah well it's that the previous leaks the previous rumors were just completely wrong you know things change things got delayed whatever the case things were wrong the rumors that we heard beforehand were wrong now I know that's the nature of leaks and rumors that's the whole fun of it is to you know speculate on something if it doesn't happen so what but you know that's that's for people who have been in this game for a while and the problem I have with leaks right now and I went into this in my newsletter but is that a lot of new people especially like new to the leaks and rumors game and things like that they expect everything from Apple so when they don't get everything in the leaks they're disappointed at Apple I'm just gonna wait till the next year I'm gonna wait till the next year so they have you know the quad camera setup or whatever it is you know people just take these leaks and rumors way too serious especially this far out so you know I'm gonna still cover these leaks and rumors because it's fun you know you guys like to see it as well it's fun to speculate on but take everything with a grain of salt like even from the most reliable people take it from a grain of salt when we're this far out now some of the things like you know the mute switch and things like that people are on the assembly line they're seeing these products like actually being passed through the assembly line so these things that we're hearing about are actually happening but things do change so just be aware of that and don't put too much expectation don't get your hopes up way too high for the iPhones just based on leaks that come out several months before the actual product is ready but anyways let's continue speculating because why not so let's look into 2026 and 2027 when Ming Chi quo says we might actually see the Apple glasses that we've been hearing about for a long time now so this is going to come after the Apple AR VR headsets and of course after the light version of the AR VR headset the cheaper version of that so this is going to be kind of the evolution of the AR VR headset it's going to turn into glasses that is actually still on track and I remember hearing about those apple glasses like leaks and rumors oh it's coming next year like three years ago so 2026 2027 I think even that is kind of early like I honestly can't see it to like 27 2027 or like to 2030 honestly at this point because we haven't even seen the headset yet so don't get your hopes up for that but it is good news that apple is still working on these AR glasses okay so now we need to discuss something that's important enough for the FBI to tweet about it and this is related to iphones so the FBI tweeted about the dangers of charging your phone in public so here's what they tweeted avoid using free charging stations and airports hotels or shopping centers Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead so this has been common practice for a very long time now like since the invention of mobile chargers you know I feel like I've heard about this for so long now but for the FBI to tweet something out like this it tells me that there must be a big spike in cases of this happening so there must be some type of new vulnerability that these Bad actors are exploiting that's out there in the wild right now so be aware of this is definitely happening right now other wise I went out of tweeted that you know so many years late after that's been a known thing for a while now so tell your friends and family especially those that are not super tech savvy to avoid using like those little USB ports or Chargers that are already out there you bring your own have your own cord have your own block and plug it into an outlet like you do at home and then finally you guessed it another crazy air tags story actually two crazy air tag stories so last week we got a little violent with that story this week is not super violent so don't worry but anyways this first one happened in North Carolina where a man broke into several cars in a hospital parking lot and then decided to go into the hospital and continue stealing this time from the nurse break room the nurse's break room so he got away you know nobody caught on to him until they were leaving and noticed things were stolen you know and nobody contacted police officers or anything but and you know where this is going thankfully a woman had an air tag and a purse that this guy stole and then after telling the police about the air tag and then giving them the location of where the thief was police track them to a nearby hotel where he was attempting to leave in his car but when police started talking to him they told the woman who was with them as well to Ping the air tag and what do you know the air tag was pinging right in his back seat easy case he was arrested on felony larceny charges and is facing a thirty thousand dollar Bond so it's great to see police you know actually encouraging the use of air tags nowadays and actually you know using them as real evidence because I remember when they first came out police were not taking them serious so it's really great to see this meanwhile in California a woman had her e-bike stolen and after losing hope of ever getting it back because it had been a month she somehow remembered super late that she had an air tag on the bike so a month after it was stolen her and her dad confronted the thief at his own house and took the bike back without any violence now unfortunately the thief was never charged which is just one reason you should always call the cops and not confront them because you really never know what people are capable of these days but still it's good to see that an air tag saved the day for that e-bike and by the way if you want an air tag like tracker especially for your wallet this little chipolo wallet tracker is awesome so it integrates with find my It Works in the find my application Apple actually sells this in their stores I covered this a few weeks back and chipolo actually sent some of these over so pretty cool it's a Tracker that works natively with the find my application they even have some like colorful versions of these air tag like tracker so pretty cool check them out now if you want to see more stories and opinions and curated wallpapers check out my Apple Den newsletter down in the description below it's also good if you're just more of like a reading person I mean I'm a video person so I can't imagine you know reading over watching video which is why you guys probably watch these anyways but if you're the reading type check out my newsletter you may like it it's free really no risk you could always unsubscribe if you don't like what I post out there but anyways hope you guys enjoyed this episode this video episode of Apple weekly if you did I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe so you don't miss next week's episode but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see see you soon\n"
