MY UNLUCKIEST CAR! First AMG GT R Roadster Nurburgring Laps

The Nürburgring Safety Car: A Humble Guardian of the Track

As we set off on our adventure, we couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. Our trusty steed, an AMG GT Roadster, was ready to take on the iconic Nürburgring circuit. But before we could hit the track, we were greeted by a familiar sight - the safety car. Yes, you read that right. The Nürburgring, one of the most feared and revered tracks in the world, has a safety car. It's not just a figurehead, but an essential part of ensuring the safety of all drivers on the track.

The Safety Car: A Routine Check

We watched as the safety car pulled up alongside us, its tires screeching as it came to a stop. A team of technicians jumped out, armed with an array of tools and equipment. They began their routine checks, meticulously examining every aspect of our vehicle. It's a reassuring sight, knowing that these experts are ensuring our AMG GT Roadster is in top condition for the challenge ahead.

The Roof Up: A Whole New World

One thing that struck us immediately was how much more we could hear with the roof up. The exhaust notes, the bangs and explosions - it was like a symphony of sound. And yet, as we began to drive, we realized that this wasn't just about the noise. It was about the feeling of freedom, of being connected to the car in a way that's hard to describe. With the roof down, we felt like we were a part of something bigger than ourselves - the wind rushing past us, the sun on our skin.

The Brakes: A Sensitive Topic

As we made our way through the twists and turns of the Nürburgring, we couldn't help but notice that our brakes seemed to be getting a bit soft. It was as if they were losing their bite, struggling to stop us in time. We knew that this wasn't ideal, especially on a track like the Nürburgring, where every corner is a challenge and every mistake can be costly.

The Experience: A Unique Blend of Fun and Fear

As we navigated the carousel round, we felt a sense of excitement wash over us. The AMG GT Roadster was handling beautifully, its nine-speed transmission and AMG traction control working in harmony to deliver a seamless driving experience. And yet, despite the car's impressive capabilities, we couldn't shake off the feeling that we were taking a risk. The Nürburgring is a track that demands respect, and our car was no exception.

The Roof Down: A Whole New World of Sensation

As we made our way back through the track, we decided to take off the roof for one final time. And what a difference it made. The wind rushing past us, the sun on our skin - it was like nothing else mattered. We were no longer just driving cars; we were living in them. And yet, as we approached the end of the lap, we knew that our adventure wasn't over yet.

The Weather: A Surprising Twist

Just as we thought we'd finished, the weather took a surprising turn. Dark clouds rolled in, and before we knew it, rain was pouring down on us. The wipers sprang to life, clearing our vision of the track ahead. It was the perfect excuse to take off the roof for good, and we gratefully obliged.

A Brief Interlude: A Closer Look

As we stepped out of the car, we took a moment to appreciate its beauty. The AMG GT Roadster is a stunning machine, with its sleek design and powerful engine. And yet, despite its impressive credentials, it's not without its flaws. Our car had suffered from battery issues, as well as some brake problems. It was a reminder that even the best machines require regular maintenance to stay in top condition.

The Verdict: A Love-Hate Relationship

As we reflected on our time at the Nürburgring, we couldn't help but feel a sense of affection for our trusty steed. The AMG GT Roadster may have its quirks and flaws, but it's a car that wears its heart on its sleeve. And as we drove away from the track, we knew that we'd never forget this experience - the thrill of driving a car at 160mph, surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys i'm shmee hello and welcome back to the channel where you join me today back here in nurburg to go head out onto the nurburgring with the amg gtr roadster now many of you will know it is a rite of passage for all smee mobiles to go and do their first laps at the green hell which is what today is all about although there is one small problem this has basically been the unluckiest car i think i have ever owned for various reasons one new issue of which is going to interfere a little bit with the upcoming lap but let me explain a little bit more then we will take this car out for its first run here at the nurburgring the good news is that the amg gtr roadster is now fully running it is ready to be driven in anger and that is what i shall try to do today if this pesky little problem doesn't get too much in the way now i'll explain all and what i mean about that in just a moment but the car has covered a lot of miles recently a lot more than it did during the early part of my ownership when i collected it back in november basically drove it i think around four or five hundred miles including going up to pandora to install their system and then basically parked it up when i went to the us so after six months it hadn't done any more and it was sitting on around 700 kilometers and that was actually the last time it was washed and it's filthy now because it's now done four thousand seven hundred kilometers about three thousand miles including the trek down to italy and back up to germany which has been good for getting it ready to rock and roll today now like i said it is filthy because it hasn't been cleaned in a long time the weather recently has not exactly been on side this needs a proper wash at some point this is supposed to be a silver rim around the wheels and these are supposed to be satin black and now they're two different shades of grey thanks to all of the brake dust the regular steel brakes on the gtr roadster you couldn't spec it in the uk so you had to have this one default configuration just your choice of colours which is why i chose the hyacinth thread which is looking incredible in the sunshine right now here at the nurburgring roof down although i think i will pop that up to go out onto the green hell very shortly just makes it a little bit more comfortable although driving roof down during twisting farton is allowed and is pretty good fun i'm not gonna lie anyway let me explain a little bit more then what i mean about why this is basically the most unlucky car i've ever owned and if we rewind back to the delivery you might remember it was kind of elongated as to when i would eventually actually collect the car and the reason for that was due to something to do with the spec on the interior which wasn't exactly how i had chosen it to be and being here in germany a lot at the time being right here at the nurburgring in fact we basically just left it until a decision was made but with everything going on in the supply discussions no decision really happened so eventually i just collected it exactly as is fast forward a little bit and you'll also be aware it was delivered with the transport blocks still and i guess because of the delays i'm not really sure if it needed to be transported back or what exactly was going to happen so it still had the transport blocks at the front and i went to duke of london to get those taken out and what else do we have well i tried to line up swapping it over to the bucket seat so you might remember i have a set of bucket seats to go into this car they're actually here at opus at the nurburgring unfortunately their schedules and mine haven't tied up so we're not able to do that this time but now there's another new problem as well which is to do with the front active arrow so down underneath the front nose of the gtr which is completely bug splattered there is effectively a lower spoiler that lowers down when you drive this car at speed it's a known problem that they sometimes fail in this case unfortunately it has failed which means that you are capped to an electronic limited top speed of 200 kilometers per hour 124 miles per hour which is not ideal the thing i'm interested about though is how many times on a lap of the green hell do you actually reach 200 kilometers an hour and i guess today we're gonna find that out i think it's probably something like seven eight nine perhaps we'll see when we get out there and what it's all about now the notification to tell you there's a problem with that is actually here inside on this new screen interface that you have it's this button i'm going to come around to the other side to show you something about this because you'll see why i wasn't aware of it because i think this has probably been a problem from the very beginning but basically when you're sat here in the driver's seat sorry it's four thousand six hundred or four thousand five hundred and seventy kilometers that started up quickly there we go it's this and you can't see this from the driver's seat there's an exclamation point on the right hand side of that graphic you can just see that letting you know that it's not working but from here you can't see and there's no dashboard notification so this is in my eyes not great but you have no idea there's a problem until you hit 200 kilometers an hour so of course i didn't know that until i was on the autobahn at which point it's a little bit too long to try and get it fixed because to sort this problem out basically means that a dealer needs to do an investigation work it's an expensive piece to actually change so they can't just do it under warranty by you simply saying it they need to test some things clean it try various different things which means the car needs to be at a dealer for a couple of days unfortunately time is a little bit tight to manage that so can't do it this time around it is what it is let's go take it out though because like i said it's the right of passage for shame to be able to go into a lap here at the green help pretty much all of the cars apart from the most recent acquisitions have done i think the only older car that hasn't is my heritage edition focus rs at some point i'll have to take that one off as well at some point hopefully bring the tai can over that'd be an interesting experience for now though let's hop on board get all of this set up first time pressure's that kind of thing go out go drive on the nurburgring okay i just had to take a quick phone call that means the car is fortunately warm and ready to rock and roll now i will turn the toggle on the steering wheel i think we'll go let's start in sport plus then we'll turn it up to race i do however want to have it in manual i forget that i've got the button right there on the steering wheel as well which makes my life that little bit easier and we will head the very short hop from here over to the start of the nurburgring which i'm not quite sure yet how busy it's going to be today and how frustrating this electric speed limiter is going to be but like i say we will effectively see how many times it comes into play during a lap of the nurburgring in just a moment i will stress that today is tourist drives tourist and fartan and it is actually my first time back here in a fair old while my first lap in over half a year so bear with me as i just get a little bit comfortable and acclimatized with being back here at the nurburgring tap my card on there we're good to go there's a bit of traffic up ahead at the moment but comfortable ready and set and very excited to be honest to be here again at the moment to be back here in another schmie mobile for a laugh or maybe two we'll see how it goes we've got the chicanes just to take things easy as we head out but remember it's a toll road road rules apply overtaking only on the left it is not a race there is no prize for coming first this is just for fun here at the nurburgring so boat traction there obviously cold sport cup twos let's head out towards tiergarten straight on the power and probably we're gonna go straight into the 200 kilometers yeah there we go we're on the limiter it's like being at vmax you run into the electronic limiter and it's going no faster that's all you're gonna get out of it and an active brake warning message as well you need to be a little bit aware because of course it's going to be slightly looser at the front end without having that lower spoiler that normally if you're in sport plus or in race would be dropping down oh this is so cool to be back here i'm gonna pop it up into race actually a little bit busy here take it sensibly to start as we go through it feels like just yesterday to be honest that i was last here instant familiarity so go through the hudson back area firm on the anchors for the cars in front in one of the dirtiest cars up here at the nurburgring back on the power so i guess the second time we're gonna run into the 200 limit and there it is it kind of gave me one little extra little bit there go around the outside up towards trade quite square we would be hoping to get towards 300 and obviously today that's what we've got 200 kilometers an hour although this is still faster than most cars would drive here of course so having fun following the bmw up ahead it gave one extra little kick off camera corner gotta watch out around here we come to amborg heavy braking zone and then it would be down towards the foxhole gosh it feels good to be back here this place is cool it's so cool absolutely loving it and also appreciating the pace setting here from the guy in front of us as well oh yeah there we go we're on the limit again we're on limit through the foxhole on the speed limiter to ride a bit of the car maybe there this is fun nice cracks out of the exhaust as it's got run in and started to make some good noises i must apologize also probably for the speaker noise that you guys hear inside the car that we don't hear so much that's me flat past him i've got nothing more to give there you'll probably be wondering now why i don't put my foot down more on some of the stretches here and i am very sorry sir it is not by choice it is all i have got less downforce than normal and less maximum speed oh wow leading through the corners i love the amg gtr as we come to the mix it miss this car is just fantastic it has so much experience between my mg gtt's the siphon slowest area i'll turn all the way through as we come out from bright side i must confess i've lost count i'm going to let the gt3 rs come past us here though take a listen to this awesome right away we go of course the lotus slightly off the line always going to watch out for those kind of things as we come towards bird work another very heavy braking zone tricky corner takes some getting used to and learning the line that you need through here earlier back on the power if possible and away we go up the hill i'm gonna have to watch my own video back to see how many times it is that we've um electronically limited not quite on the limiter here but we will be in just a second yeah there we go probably go through here flat on a limit but entire pressure's rising yeah we're back on ms again as we go through style striker then we're heading up now towards the carousel i'm gonna drop back a little bit actually it's always fun to get some nice photos here from some of the photographers on race tracker who are hanging around right find the dropping in point run around all the concrete blocks one of the most iconic corners of any circuit anywhere traction control into meaning on the exit full concentration mode challenge so we come down towards grinchen wow it's busy here out the exit approaching uphill little jump going light over the lip there wow this place is so complicated when you've done more laps held the limit again and you start to be more familiar with the layout know where you're going it's so rewarding we're coming now towards the final corners mustang with the roof down awesome little carousel and then up towards galden cob the very last corner and this is where i'm gonna take it easy let the brakes have a break and run it around and off the nurburgring the first lap for the amg gtr roadster the first lap for me in 2021 and what a car what a place what a piece of tarmac that was just awesome first slap down and it very quickly looks like the rain is going to be coming but before it does we will pop the roof down and go and do at least one lap roof down in the gtr roadster of course you can do it from the key or you can do it from the pandora app remember as i've shown before the roof down in this on the nurburgring which is slightly amusing i guess nonetheless it's going to feel even more dramatic when we reach that 200 kilometer an hour limit let's hop in go back out there's something about this that feels instinctively slightly wrong but it is going to be epic fun nonetheless beat the card okay we are still set in race and manual we have the roof down and i'm going to press the button here for the heated seat and for the air scarf behind my neck i will apologize though that it's going to get very loud with the roof down but having warm air blowing on the back of your neck driving in a uh a track focused convertible on the nurburgring is definitely gonna make for something pretty special so follow the traffic on out of here and then we'll have the uh foot down let's put traction actually into sport handling mode this time we'll have the foot down up to 200 kilometers an hour as we go through tierga so out we go away we go yeah it gets windy very very very quickly and there's the limiter that's funny we've got a nurburgring safety car up ahead of us as well they run routine checks to make sure all is well one thing that is instantly pretty cool about having the roof now is how you hear so many more of the cracks from the exhaust on the downshifts and the bangs and explosions and cool noises that it makes even with the opf that this car has being the facelift generation gosh when you've got traction in sport you feel that it's just happy to move around that little bit more of course we do have the nine speed the night toggles and the amg traction control in here nine different settings into the limiter that doesn't feel right such a strange sensation we've got a lot of traffic coming down to foxhole now a lot of traffic ahead of us a very noisy m4 you can hear so much more of the noises when you've got the roof down of all of the other cars around you it's very windy when you're driving at speed with the roof down very very very windy and there is a big old wing on the bmw in front of us here round style striker we go into the carousel round out we go gosh you're so much more aware of everything that's going on around you roof down i've also got quite a warm bottom from having the heated seats on here i need to turn that down first of all problems women challenge time man full concentration here now that's cool what's that all sorts of cars on the nurburgring doesn't have to be as big powerful and fast as this is to have fun i feel like my brakes are getting a bit soft though so i want to take it slightly easier as we make our way around back towards the end this is so cool i love this thing and driving here as we come back round then to the end one thing i can say about this is how much you can feel the difference between the pro and the roadster the pro just has that additional ability with its suspension to keep the car planted and compliant over the slightly bumpy nurburgring and i do feel the difference generally getting back into the roadster i'm not sure if the lack of roof and changed aero profile has something to do with that as well but the pro just it's more dialed in for driving here i would love to drive them back-to-back and look it's just starting to rain the wipers have gone as we've come around to the end of the lap you could say that's lucky timing because um yeah i think we wouldn't have been able to get out for one more without it pouring with rain that is the eiffel mountains without any notice at all the weather changes against you and it gets pretty pretty messy so let's do the roof then while we're driving pop this back up and then comfortably return back to base mission success two good laps with the amg gtr roadster here at the nurburgring stepping out of the car and taking a quick look again as i was saying about the brakes they don't have the best life when you're driving them like this the regular steel brakes the carbon ceramics are much better but the amount of brake dust here now this needs a real clean although it's about to rain so i'll have to wait until after that anyway what a car even if it has these strange foibles at the moment and seems in many ways to be quite unlucky as i said i didn't mention that it also had a few battery issues i think connected to the fact that it was sitting around as well so basically a string of little problems but i do love my amg gts gtr gtr pro and very soon gt black series as well and i can see this sitting alongside the gt black series because for road tours and touring around as we have done with it over the last well two and a half thousand miles as i said earlier this has been a really fantastic thing it wouldn't normally be my typical choice of specification i think it's quite an old a mature speck we could say the dark red with the black with the yellow accents but i do love it and i do really really enjoy driving it an awful lot so as bizarre as it was going for the pro and the roadster i've enjoyed them each in different ways from the driving that i've done so far but a great opportunity to get it out then on the green hell on the nurburgring another schmie mobile taking that off its bucket list i think we could say and a great day my first time back here for this season that's it for now though thank you very much for watching as always guys your supporters appreciated an awful lot that's it for this time though and i'll see you again very soon cheers youhi guys i'm shmee hello and welcome back to the channel where you join me today back here having warm air blowing on the back of your neck driving in a uh a track focused convertible on the nurburgring is definitely gonna make for something pretty special so follow the traffic on out of here and then we'll have the uh foot down let's put traction actually into sport handling mode this time we'll have the foot down up to 200 kilometers an hour as we go through tierga so out we go away we go yeah it gets windy very very very quickly and there's the limiter that's funny we've got a nurburgring safety car up ahead of us as well they run routine checks to make sure all is well one thing that is instantly pretty cool about having the roof now is how you hear so many more of the cracks from the exhaust on the downshifts and the bangs and explosions and cool noises that it makes even with the opf that this car has being the facelift generation gosh when you've got traction in sport you feel that it's just happy to move around that little bit more of course we do have the nine speed the night toggles and the amg traction control in here nine different settings into the limiter that doesn't feel right such a strange sensation we've got a lot of traffic coming down to foxhole now a lot of traffic ahead of us a very noisy m4 you can hear so much more of the noises when you've got the roof down of all of the other cars around you it's very windy when you're driving at speed with the roof down very very very windy and there is a big old wing on the bmw in front of us here round style striker we go into the carousel round out we go gosh you're so much more aware of everything that's going on around you roof down i've also got quite a warm bottom from having the heated seats on here i need to turn that down first of all problems women challenge time man full concentration here now that's cool what's that all sorts of cars on the nurburgring doesn't have to be as big powerful and fast as this is to have fun i feel like my brakes are getting a bit soft though so i want to take it slightly easier as we make our way around back towards the end this is so cool i love this thing and driving here as we come back round then to the end one thing i can say about this is how much you can feel the difference between the pro and the roadster the pro just has that additional ability with its suspension to keep the car planted and compliant over the slightly bumpy nurburgring and i do feel the difference generally getting back into the roadster i'm not sure if the lack of roof and changed aero profile has something to do with that as well but the pro just it's more dialed in for driving here i would love to drive them back-to-back and look it's just starting to rain the wipers have gone as we've come around to the end of the lap you could say that's lucky timing because um yeah i think we wouldn't have been able to get out for one more without it pouring with rain that is the eiffel mountains without any notice at all the weather changes against you and it gets pretty pretty messy so let's do the roof then while we're driving pop this back up and then comfortably return back to base mission success two good laps with the amg gtr roadster here at the nurburgring stepping out of the car and taking a quick look again as i was saying about the brakes they don't have the best life when you're driving them like this the regular steel brakes the carbon ceramics are much better but the amount of brake dust here now this needs a real clean although it's about to rain so i'll have to wait until after that anyway what a car even if it has these strange foibles at the moment and seems in many ways to be quite unlucky as i said i didn't mention that it also had a few battery issues i think connected to the fact that it was sitting around as well so basically a string of little problems but i do love my amg gts gtr gtr pro and very soon gt black series as well and i can see this sitting alongside the gt black series because for road tours and touring around as we have done with it over the last well two and a half thousand miles as i said earlier this has been a really fantastic thing it wouldn't normally be my typical choice of specification i think it's quite an old a mature speck we could say the dark red with the black with the yellow accents but i do love it and i do really really enjoy driving it an awful lot so as bizarre as it was going for the pro and the roadster i've enjoyed them each in different ways from the driving that i've done so far but a great opportunity to get it out then on the green hell on the nurburgring another schmie mobile taking that off its bucket list i think we could say and a great day my first time back here for this season that's it for now though thank you very much for watching as always guys your supporters appreciated an awful lot that's it for this time though and i'll see you again very soon cheers you\n"
