Fixing a Window Chip: A Step-by-Step Guide
Today we're gonna go fix this chip in my windshield and it's happened on the Parkway unfortunately, a big rock came up nailed it and you can see nice chip and you want to do this as soon as possible this happened today so I don't want this to spread and crack more so I went straight out bought some chip repair and I'll show you how to do this.
The first step is to clean the glass. You don't want to spray anything in the hole, so just spray it on your paper towel, your glass cleaner alcohol whatever, and just go around just make sure the area is clean. This is important because you don't want any dirt or debris getting into the resin and messing up the repair.
Next, we're gonna take a push pin like this and we're gonna go inside here and just dig out any broken chipped loose pieces of glass. Just happen to be pretty clean then we're gonna go back over with our paper towel make sure all these pieces of glass taken out and your surface is prepped and ready to go. This step is crucial in getting a good seal on the resin.
After that, we're gonna take our disk here and we're gonna put it over like that so that the hole is in the middle. We're gonna line this up make sure it goes on crack in the middle or the chip and push it around make sure you get a nice good seal on it just like that. This will help the resin to flow evenly and fill in the gap.
Now we need to set up our syringe. You have your resin, you have your syringe, this goes onto the glass and you're gonna inject the resin and then it cures with this yellow strip right here. It's pretty straightforward. So we're gonna take our syringe pedestal and peel back this and align your syringe like that go and press it down on all sides so now your syringe is set up, your syringe pedestal is set up.
Next step is to cut the tip off of the resin and we're going to use three-quarters of it. Save this extra resin the quarter you have left because you're gonna need it at the end. Then take your syringe and it's in the closed position, push it in make sure it's sealed good and then hold down with one hand and pull up with the other until it locks all the way up just like that.
After ten minutes, what we do is take this you pull it out then you take it push it back in and depress the plunger. Okay, so now we let it sit for 20 minutes 20 minutes later they're going to pull this off and then use this scraper very carefully to get this to come off. Oh yeah, and get a paper towel ready so have a paper towel ready to scoop up all the extra resin that you have on you look at that it looks a lot better it's not even done yet and it looks good.
Now we're gonna take your yellow film thing, it's your resin hardener and your resin that you left over, and you're gonna put a little dot of resin here like this. I gotta take your resin and take your hardener and on top just like that press it down so leave that for 15 minutes in the Sun or an hour if it's hazy oh I'm just going to leave it for an hour it can't hurt to leave it longer.
And then about an hour has elapsed, it's been in direct sunlight for over 15 minutes all we have to do now pull that off and take a towel punch it up and you're done. So you can see it looks good and that's how you repair a window chip just like that so now won't crack on you and it looks a lot nicer.
