How to Watch Netflix & Hulu in Ubuntu _ Ubuntu Tips & Tricks

Hello everyone, my name is Anna-Maria Paz Vox, welcome back to another Buntu 16.04 tips video brought to you by System76. In this video, I'm gonna discuss how you can play Netflix on Ubuntu. This seems like a basic thing and the answer is going to be very basic. Use Google Chrome.

But I've actually been asked it quite a lot and when I looked into it, I couldn't even play it at first. This is because for other browsers, it actually requires either a proprietary flash plugin or Microsoft Silverlight. Microsoft Silverlight isn't even supported or used by Microsoft any more in the first place and the workarounds are no longer supported by the people who made them.

I tried installing Moonlight and one other workaround for Silverlight, but it still would not work in the chromium browser installation. I had to switch to formal Google Chrome to get it to work. Now for Flash requirements, if you need that for another browser, that's fairly easy to install in Ubuntu and if you'd like to know how I can make a separate video, but overall, the actual Google certified Google Chrome plays Netflix just fine and we'll play Hulu and things like that because it has everything required built-in. It's really quite nice.

And why I tend to stick with the browser no matter what other browsers may come up or what arguments people may have about using other browsers, I tend to stick with Google Chrome. That's what you need to do even if you just make a separate Netflix shortcut that only opens in Google Chrome, just so you only open it in that, that would give you a dedicated Netflix window as well.

What you got to do to read more about this, you can check out the System76 docs link in the description below. With this video is of course sponsored by and brought to you by System76. I've been using the System76 Lemur laptop as my main Kubuntu machine for a little while now, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit.
