The Sun is Setting Over New York City
As I stand here, trying to take it all in, the sun is setting over the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan. The air is filled with the sounds of honking horns and chatter of pedestrians, a symphony that's both overwhelming and exhilarating. I've got my neck craned back, gazing upwards at the city's breathtaking skyline. The car's low front window makes it difficult to see the traffic lights, but the stunning view of Central Park takes my breath away. Just a few minutes ago, we were cruising through the city, taking in the sights and sounds, and now I'm standing here, mesmerized by the beauty of New York.
The Plaza Hotel
As we pulled over at this Whistle Stop tour of New York, I couldn't help but feel like I was in one of those movies that take you to iconic locations. The Plaza Hotel is right there, a symbol of luxury and elegance. I've always been fascinated by this hotel, where so many famous people have stayed over the years. It's hard not to feel a sense of awe as we stand here, looking up at its grand facade. This is Manhattan, after all - the city that never sleeps.
The Ford GT
As we take in the sights and sounds of Times Square, I'm reminded that this is just the beginning of our tour. We're in Ford's hometown, so I have no doubt that any issues with the car will be quickly resolved. But for now, let's just enjoy the moment. The sun is setting, casting a golden glow over the city. The GT's V12 engine purrs smoothly as we take in the bright lights and bustling energy of Times Square.
Driving through New York
As we make our way down to Times Square, I'm struck by the sheer size and complexity of this city. Every car seems to be a taxi, with no one behind the wheel. It's a different world here, where driving is not just about getting from point A to point B - it's an experience in itself. The sound of horns honking and people chatting fills the air as we navigate through the crowded streets.
A Moment at Times Square
We've arrived at Times Square, and I'm blown away by its sheer scale and energy. It's like nothing I've ever seen before - a kaleidoscope of lights and sounds that's both overwhelming and exhilarating. I take a deep breath, trying to process it all, as people rush past us, cameras snapping away. Damien is taking photos with the GT dead center stage at the traffic light - these shots are going to be epic.
The End of the Day
As I look around at the bright lights and bustling energy of Times Square, I know that this has been an incredible day so far. But as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the city, I feel exhausted. The long-haul flight from London to New York has taken its toll, not just on me but also on the car. Tomorrow will bring more adventures with the Ford GT - but for now, it's time to call it a day.
A Big Thank You
I'd like to extend a big thank you to Jason, who joined us earlier in the day and brought his Aston Martin Vantage along. It was great having him on board, and I'm grateful for the experience. And of course, a huge thank you to all my viewers out there - it's been an absolute pleasure sharing this tour with you. Until next time, when we'll be back behind the wheel of the Ford GT...
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys I'm shmee hello and welcome back to the channel where you join me today in New York where it is time to get started with my American Adventure I've flown over to JFK from London Heathrow but the first stop on my agenda is actually something totally ridiculous that I still can't quite believe I'm saying but it's to go around to JFK's cargo warehouses to collect my Ford GT my English car on an English number plate that today I'm going to be driving into Manhattan into the city to see the sights Times Square Battery Park the Empire State Building all across the Atlantic Ocean this feels totally ridiculous so a friend is going to come along shortly to pick me up to take me over to the cargo area where I'm going to collect the GT it almost feels like collecting a new car and then drive into the city yes it is time ahead of two months here in America let's do it let's go pick up my Ford GT here in New York City I've just heard him coming so I'm the Brit here to pick up my American car and my friend Jason is here in a British car how you doing man welcome to America thank you very much Jason speed racer38 it's been a while yeah nice way to turn up let's just hear it quickly let's put my bags in the back and then we're gonna swing around and yes this is one of the manual V12 vantages just like my dad used to have actually manual yeah proper proper manual proper six-speed manual which we are going to be heading around with to the other side it's boiling hot day it's ridiculously hot here but uh I'm looking forward to this all right so I have two treats for you yeah one you need this in New York easy fast easy pass I can get around get through the tolls thank you other one well you know what it is I know what it is yeah radar detector compulsory we will be using that during this tour so for the time being yeah I figured uh British car make you feel at home as soon as you get to this yeah and bang on and just enough room to fill my luggage which doesn't fit in the Ford GT that'll be wrong exactly yeah so let's go find it let's go find it I am itching right now to get into the city I can't even imagine thank you so to the to the causeway sure we know where we're going near cargo area to the left we're going to cargo area B so we've been instructed to go to find my car so it's going to be literally if one of these uh planes that pulls up around here somewhere at the back of the uh warehouses find it playing that's not what my car here share the Korean cargo tournament in my car ready and waiting I've been told to go to number 18. just there it is there it is my car in the US before GT is here this is ridiculous that's insane my face right now that's my car with an English number plate um I guess we just pull it up and uh go check it out wow huh we've just done all of the paperwork but this is ridiculous this car with my British number plate Jason's with the Connecticut plate on it there we've got 18 wheelers New York plates the yellow ones that are around and I'm going to be driving it but still my car as I left it in Amsterdam as it was loaded up but now A Long Way from Home the car that you've seen at Silverstone at the Nurburgring in Sardinia for the Pagani raduno now here in the USA which well you can tell from my assignment I'm looking forward to this a lot but there was one thing I had to do for the car to go into Transit and that was basically drive it so that there was no fuel in the tank left so if I just take a step in here turn on the ignition you will see on the dashboard in a second that we've got 12 miles of range now um not exactly a lot of fuel so we need to go straight yep telling me that obviously in our face straight to the nearest fuel station to get this filled up let's get the engine warmed up for the time being we're going to take this over then get some fuel in it before Crossing I guess one of the bridges or tunnels to go into Manhattan what is going on I can't wait though this is going to be insane you know to try and copy that because if I do that I'm going to end up with no fuel and be completely like stuck should we do it I'm gonna follow you guys let's head on out then so uh Jason's also joined by Damien photographer here as well so we're going to follow them um yeah this is like driving a new car again this genuinely feels like a brand new experience all over again but obviously I uh just watching out for trucks and things here I drove the car the last minute it was driven actually out on the road of course it was maneuvered a little bit to go through cargo and things but now here we go here we go out onto the roads we're getting about 1.7 miles we've worked out it is to get around towards the um nearest fuel station and that's going to be an experience as well because American fuel stations don't work in the same way as European ones but a lot of people have actually asked me about the fuel situation and what I'm gonna have to do with that because everybody knows that the numbers are very different but actually remember this is an American car I mean technically it's built in Canada but it is an American car and that means you can put in kind of 91.93 octane which is equivalent to like 95 97 Ron the European system it's a different scale we are left-hand drive car right at home miles per hour on the dash right at home don't need to change anything with that and obviously you don't need to move any mirrors or anything because they're all in my positions that sounds good good my mind right now my mind right now of course I've got insurance for the US I've got all the Customs paperwork I've got all the original vehicle document fuel warning I've got everything that I could possibly need to have but I am expecting that it's only going to be a case of time until I do get pulled over with someone saying you know what is that number plate what are you doing where is this from that's not legal or something like that uh for the time being though we're just gonna be cruising I'm very conscious to not drive hard because of the complete lack of fuel in this car and of course American stop signs but you have to stop for them you we're in luck we've got seven miles left actually on the clock now of course it's not that accurate when it's basically an empty tank but here we are at the first field station of the adventure oh my gosh I've got to work out how to do this okay I guess we can go to any one of the pumps that has good stuff or how do I work this out I'm not even sure I'm just going to uh pull up to one and the good news is we have ultra 93 93 being like 97 the car runs on 95 so all is good so right engine off and then uh go in or go out and work out how to do this we're all fueled up now with the wing up as well and at least we're gonna get like 100 150 miles range out of it thanks to the official fuel of NASCAR but we're going to continue with the two head into town and um see how this goes right let's see what happens right let's jump in because I want to get into New York with the GTE time to Brave the new traffic and I expect this to be absolute Carnage so you can tell from the low Sun it is late in the day that means um yeah traffic jams pretty much everywhere we try and go speed trap reported ahead thank you very much very kind of it of course I have Android auto turned on so we can put on the navigation gateways running so that it will show us exactly what's happening here and then uh yeah see where it takes us I'm going to follow them it turns out that the traffic here is absolutely and I say that just as that GTR comes alongside but basically just taken a very very very long time probably an hour longer more to traffic on this meme hopefully we will get into town before it's the amount that obviously see this and it's just like what is that thing everybody goes past the cameras cameras camera phones camera everybody literally every single person it must look so completely ridiculous here I'll Attack everything and here we go then New York opens up in front of me that Skyline the number of skyscaring scrapers right in front also down towards Lower Manhattan here we'll tell you what the records They are so bumpy and so rough as you can probably hear um but it definitely makes you just kind of you never know where there's going to be a gigantic bottle you actually had a couple that I've really had to avoid already this is it thank you very much now this is it this is New York this is the city really with the GT I've I've done some cool things I'm very lucky to have done some incredibly cool things but this this is up there this is just ridiculous out of here then this is well Uptown downtown Crosstown I am going to be following the Aston we're going I think the Uptown exit we're heading to the southern Point actually of Manhattan's Battery Park where you can see the Statue of Liberty and get a great View now we're behind that Nissan GTR as well oh okay where are we going guys where are we going uh oh we've definitely gone wrong I'm not quite sure how wrong okay okay we definitely didn't have a turning so the nav wasn't quite right there uh let's see what happens we are now though in Manhattan this is this is you know you know in golf that's New York skyscrapers everywhere I feel very very very low in this car what am I doing what am I doing oh um yeah I'm glad I got somebody to uh guide me around here nav is all over the place there are lots of these kind of things just everywhere okay then I have been driving through some ridiculous places but here we are going to find somewhere to pull over because basically from this area you can see kind of Staten Island and Statue of Liberty I believe uh for me though it's very much a case of as I go and try and look up because of how low the roof line is in this car you actually can't see where the skyscraper was going we've got no chance of seeing up towards the top of them there's not much Headroom in here um but yeah we're just gonna I guess I'm gonna try and put it here and work out what to do next it turns out the parking is just as manic as trying to drive around here and pretty much anywhere I park the car someone stops to take a picture but where we are is just near to Battery Park unfortunately not really able to see the Statue of Liberty I've never seen it but I haven't been able to make a video with it but in this direction you have the Freedom Tower which of course was built after 9 11 the new World Trade Center up that away um the sun just setting but very much in New York with the skyscrapers and also with the four GT I don't people don't actually notice the normal plate as much as I thought they might of course you've got York plates you've got the white and blue New York plates the yellow ones are very distinctive lots of you can have to get plates or asses this is here this is actually actually a thing in the uh the Big Apple let me tell you so far about New York is that it is so confusing to drive around this city is not car friendly I've only planned a couple of days to be here experience of it take some photos but the roads the traffic the lack of parking the also inability to find any really cool spots for photos very very difficult it also seems to be shaking my car up a lot as well as I go but we're gonna head back into towards the center of town a little bit really quickly everywhere and um honestly being here and of course we've still gotta go to Times Square Times Square is the New York Landmark that will come up well when we get there a little bit later on but yeah the next famous destination then right in front of me is Central Park now we're actually gonna skip on around this way as opposed to going through the park because unlike for example London's Hyde Park you can't actually literally go into the park there and he's like underground kind of crossovers um but the sun is Now setting I'm really like kind of creating my neck to try and look up look around look out because the car has such a low front window I can't even see the traffic lights it's actually slightly confusion American built car that I'll be able to see this city I I mean I'm kind of overwhelmed of course I've got a bit of jet lag from the flight the time zone change being here and now just taking it all in at once because just crawling through really up here You've Got The Plaza Hotel which is where I set them after at the moment just to explore and discover I'm sure many people know of that tell um let's go in this Lane it's very New York isn't it this is very very Manhattan what a place to be this is all like mind-blowing the next place we pulled over on this Whistle Stop tour of New York this evening is right beside the Plaza Hotel we've got more skyscrapers of course being New York and this way we have Central Park the sun I'm setting back up there the GT Park's probably not so legally for the moment but with this kind of view I mean this is totally totally unreal I would never have not that long ago thought that this here could one day be a thing I don't I don't really know what to think this is of course day one of this tour the rest won't all focus on the Ford GT there are actually one or two things I need to get looked into about it you might have spotted the tail light seems to be misbehaving also there's a noise coming from the other side we'll look into those uh of course while the cars out here we are in Ford's Homeland so it should be relatively easy to get that sorted out but the sky is all sorts of wonderful colors right now certainly for sure still with the V12 Vantage and still well mesmerized by the Simplicity or the simple fact that this car is now here and um I mean what more can I say right New York by night then a slightly different uh experience and I can actually see up ahead we are going to be going straight down towards Times Square um you have a lot of bright lights down in that direction so very noisy Aston Martin V12 advantages but we are literally going to be uh avoiding these massive bombs in the middle of Junctions past the horse and carriages as we head down there's so much to watch out for in this city basically every car is a taxi nobody drives themselves for many reasons um yeah here we go this place is so bright this was like the first place on my I guess hit list of places to go Times Square New York got a few M cars there gosh it's so busy as well this is just crazy this is just absolutely crazy you started the gumball here that's so America someone clapping rather than I guess swearing at you for driving a car like this totally different attitudes hey how you doing guys thank you very much I have no idea what I'm doing though you're doing it right whatever you're doing drunk in the M3 this is where in front of me Damien is taking photos Times Square right behind GT dead center stage at the traffic light those must look epic I can't wait to see your shots he's just taken wow just wow but I think that's where I'm gonna call it a day I am exhausted of course jet lag long-haul flight from London to New York the Long Haul flight for the car as well I'm gonna wake up tomorrow and kind of pinch myself to actually realize that the car is here in the USA the tour has now started and well it's looked pretty epic Under The Lights just a bit of Tourism a bit of light tourism to get things started with this car on I get I would like to say it's home soil of course it was built just outside of Toronto and Markham in Ontario and Canada but it feels like the home soil the country afforded the blue oval and yes lots of people have said what manufacturer is it what car is it you show them the Ford badge and there's a bit of a surprise about it a few people spotting the number plate though than I expected but I started out earlier in the day but um yes a big thanks to Jason coming along in the Vantage join earlier on yeah this is just the beginning it's going to be a lot more to come with this and I cannot wait for the rest of these Adventures tonight though I'm gonna go and have a well-deserved rest so thank you very much for watching guys hope you've enjoyed the video I hope I'll be able to get a little bit of my excitement actually having this here but that's it for this time I'll see you again very very soon cheershi guys I'm shmee hello and welcome back to the channel where you join me today in New York where it is time to get started with my American Adventure it was built just outside of Toronto and Markham in Ontario and Canada but it feels like the home soil the country afforded the blue oval and yes lots of people have said what manufacturer is it what car is it you show them the Ford badge and there's a bit of a surprise about it a few people spotting the number plate though than I expected but I started out earlier in the day but um yes a big thanks to Jason coming along in the Vantage join earlier on yeah this is just the beginning it's going to be a lot more to come with this and I cannot wait for the rest of these Adventures tonight
