RHA TrueConnect Review - Sleeker, Better, AirPods

If You've Been Looking for True Wireless Headphones Like Apple's AirPods

If you've been in the market for a pair of true wireless headphones, you've certainly been looking at Apple's AirPods. Their sleek tea-like design allows them to have 5 hours of battery life and very solid connectivity. However, what they miss out on is IPX waterproof rating, which is something that RHA provides with their True Connect headphones.

The RHA True Connect headphones come in a rad charging case that looks like if the AirPods were worn by Darth Vader. They are an awesome pair of true wireless headphones that we'll discuss in this article.

First Thing You Notice When Taking Them Out of the Box

The first thing you'll notice when taking your True Connect headphones out of the box is their slick charging case. It's got a cool U shape and slides open to reveal the headphones, which are sort of like swords in a sheath inside. So, when you pull out the headphones, you'll immediately see their resemblance to the AirPods.

Long Slim Section Outside Your Ear

The True Connect headphones have this long slim section that goes outside your ear and hides antennas and probably some of the RHA's battery. The battery life is hours on these headphones, which is the same as the AirPods. The case includes 20 hours of extra battery life.

Cooling Feature in the Case

The coolest thing about powering up these headphones is their quick charging feature inside the case that allows you to get 50% of the 5-hour battery life in just 15 minutes in the case. So, if you've been listening to them all morning at work for example and you take your lunch break, pop them in the case and you'll be able to listen to them for the rest of the day.

Differences Between These and Apple's AirPods

Another difference between these and Apple's AirPods is their ear tips. The AirPods are sort of these plastic-tipped headphones and they don't really allow you to adjust to the size of your ear, which can be good or bad for some people. For some people, they fit perfectly, while others don't quite fit right.

RHA Does a Lot to Make These More Comfortable

RHA does a lot to make these more comfortable than the AirPods. The first thing they do is include this beautiful medium-sized silicone ear tip on each of the headphones right out of the box. They also include this really cool punch card that has a bunch of different ear tips on them, so you got them in silicone in small, medium, and large.

Comply Foam for Noise Cancellation

They come with comply foam, which is something that we haven't really seen much on true wireless headphones. If you're in really noisy environments, you can pop these on, squeeze them, and put them in your ears, and they'll really block out a lot of the outside world.

Passive Noise Isolation

The True Connect have awesome passive noise isolation, which is definitely better than what you get from the AirPods. This has everything to do with this assortment of ear tips and the fit that you'll get in your ear.

Bluetooth 5.0 for Stability

They have Bluetooth 5.0 on board, which allows them to have a very stable connection and even extend the distance that you might have seen from for example Bluetooth 4.2 on older true wireless headphones. In practice, this means that you were able to walk to the Digital Trends Kitchen on multiple occasions with these headphones in leaving your phone at your desk.

No Hiccups in Connection

What that meant in practice is that you had no hiccups in terms of connection, which is impressive in terms of sound.

Bold Authoritative Base

The thing I liked most about the True Connect from RHA is that they have this bold authoritative base, but it never gets too boomy. Many in-ear headphones sort of bolster the low end and can compromise the rest of the music, but these were just awesome listening to like classic pop hits or any kind of classic rock and even guitar music.

Best True Wireless Headphones Under $200

So, if you've been looking around for a pair of true wireless headphones and you like the look of the AirPods, RHA offers you a very similar form factor but actually better features. This makes them our second favorite true wireless headphones that you can buy narrowly behind JRA's Elite Active 65t, which offer some more advanced features and maybe a more elegant design.

Still if You Want to Look Like Darth Vader

Still, if you want to look like Darth Vader bought a pair of AirPods, these are a fantastic option and they should absolutely be worth considering when you're looking around at making true wireless.
