The Art of Repurposing Mainstream Computers: A Unique Perspective at CES
As we walk through the halls of Consumer Electronics Show, we're surrounded by the latest gadgets and innovations in technology. But what if we told you that there's something even better than a homemade computer? Something that takes an off-the-shelf mainstream computer like Lenovo and turns it into a unique work of art? Meet three talented individuals who have won a contest sponsored by Lenovo to modify their computers and create something entirely different.
We're here with the creators of these one-of-a-kind PCs, each with its own distinct style and inspiration. Our first stop is the PC that resembles a classic video game console. The creator tells us that this was inspired by his love for video games, specifically Street Fighter, which was a staple of his childhood. "I grew up playing Street Fighter, and when Lenovo asked us to come up with ideas, it was the first thing that came to mind," he says. "We're just taking something and modifying it for our needs." This PC is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in repurposing mainstream technology.
But what sets these PCs apart from their traditional counterparts? According to the creators, it all comes down to imagination and basic skills. "Just some basic skill and Imagination," says one creator, "you know and you turn that imagination into something real." This PC, made from a Lenovo K 20 series computer, has been transformed into an ice cube block, a unique and eye-catching design that's sure to turn heads.
Our next stop is the PC that looks like it was plucked straight out of an art deco museum. The creator tells us that this design was inspired by his love for retro computers and the desire to create something stylish and functional. "I just really like the way computers look," he says, "and I wanted to go back to a more wooden aesthetic." This PC is perfect for office spaces or living rooms, and its unique design has earned it praise from those who see it.
Finally, we have the PC that looks like it was designed by a professional artist. The creator tells us that this design was inspired by his love of video games and his desire to create something truly special. "I wanted to take something and modify it for our needs," he says. "And when I looked at Street Fighter, I knew exactly what I wanted." This PC is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in repurposing mainstream technology.
But how did these creators manage to turn their ideas into reality? According to one creator, it all starts with a little hand saw and a hole in the case. "You start out with a little hand saw and you need a hole in the case because it's overheating," he explains. "Then you just cut the hole in the case and get the air flow in." It's not always easy, but with patience and practice, anyone can create something truly unique.
These three individuals are proof that you don't have to be a tech expert or a master craftsman to create something truly special. With imagination and basic skills, you can turn an off-the-shelf computer into a work of art. And who knows? You might just inspire others to do the same.

than a homemade computer is a homemade computer that's built out of a regular mainstream computer like Lenovo and you've turned it into something unique we have three guys here who won a contest that Lenovo sponsored to modify their computers and turn them into something completely different we've got this one that looks like a classic video game console this one that looks like it's made out of a block of ice and then this one that is like the most stylish piece of art deco furniture that I've ever seen a computer in and these are the guys who actually did this this unique work out of these Lenovo computers and let's find out a little more about what inspired them to do this what really inspired you to take you know an off-the-shelf computer and make it into this ice block well basically I just wanted to get a unique idea something wasn't seen before you know you've seen acrylic cases but you never seen an ice cube case so that was my inspiration to turn the noovo K 20 series uh PC into a block of ice what do you think it takes what kind of skills are needed to really do this sort of thing you know just some basic skill and Imagination you know and you turn that imagination into something real that's great that's great what about this one um what what sort of inspired you to make the computer look like this well I just really like hate the way computers look uh back when they were beige and started to Branch out uh a lot of people went black and aluminum I decided to go a little retro and go back to Wood um so this actually fits more into more of an office or office space or a living room space and uh I don't get as many complaints from the life when I when I present something like this and now this one what sort of you were thinking what what your idea was to make a the computer into a video game console sort of a classic consle Sol look I guess it was homage to the game Street Fighter it was the game I grew up playing um so when the Lenovo asked us to think of some ideas of what is your idea of fun well the first thing I came up was video games cuz I love video games and Street Fighter was the consumate video game for me we're just taking something and modifying it for our needs so you think someone could sort of start out doing something simpler and work their way up to this yeah I mean you start out with a little hand saww and you need a hole in the case because it's overheating so then you just cut the hole in the case and get the air flow in you guys so these three guys won this contest but as you've heard you can start small and work your way up to this you're not going to build a video game console PC or an ice cube PC overnight but if you're willing to do some work with tools and you're not afraid to avoid your warranty you can do some pretty fun things with a computerwe're here at Consumer Electronics Show with a few people who have done something a little unique um what is better than a homemade computer well what's even
