DIY Dorm Room Design Challenge with Mr. Kate

**Dorm Room Takeover: A Transformation from Ugly to Beautiful**

I'm Mr Kate and I'm here today to take over Alicia's dorm room with a little bit of magic. This is what everybody confronts when they move into a dorm, it's really ugly, basic furniture and totally blank walls. We're going to work around these rules that we're not allowed to punch the walls, because let's be real, we've all been there.

As I look at this space, I can already see the potential for something beautiful and unique. Alicia wants a casual and laid-back vibe, nothing too fancy or glittery. She's also looking for inspiration from anthropology style, but with her own twist. We're going to start by hanging these gorgeous ombre curtains that she got at Target. They add a pop of color and texture to the room, and we'll be using them as a focal point.

To create some height in the room, we've added a desk lamp from the thrift store, which not only adds ambiance but also serves as a practical lighting source. Alicia wants something that's going to make her feel cozy and comfortable in her new space, so we're incorporating faux sheep skin over the chair to add a touch of warmth. We're also using area rugs to bring some color and life to the floor.

One of my favorite parts of this transformation is the use of DIY design elements. Alicia wants to incorporate some fun and playful touches into her room, like paper feathers cut out of colorful paper and strung onto thread to create a beautiful garland that we're hanging from an ATT tension rod. We've also added some gorgeous flower artwork to the walls, which adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space.

As we work on this transformation, I want Alicia to feel like she's stepping into her own little world. She wants family photos around her room to make it feel more personal and cozy. So, we're incorporating pictures of her loved ones into the design, along with some beautiful twine and dried rose buds that add a touch of whimsy to the walls.

The finishing touches are what I love about this transformation - they're the little details that make all the difference. Alicia wants to surprise her roommate with some special touches, like textbooks covered in wrapping paper and a cute little garland on the desk. It's these small details that make a room feel truly unique and special.

After just 45 minutes of work, Alicia's dorm room has been transformed into a beautiful space that reflects her personality and style. She's going to love waking up every morning in this cozy and inviting room, surrounded by all the things that make her happy. And with these DIY design elements, she'll be able to put her own personal touch on her space and make it truly feel like home.

As I look around Alicia's new room, I can see why she's so excited - it's a space that's full of life, color, and personality. It's the perfect reflection of who she is as a person, and I couldn't be happier for her. With these little tweaks and transformations, we've created a space that's truly special - a place where Alicia can relax, study, eat, hang out with friends, and feel like herself.

**DIY Dorm Room Design Tips**

challenging it's a small space and you got to fit a lot of stuff in there and you got to create color without being able to paint I went back to school shopping and I wasn't really that impressed with like the bed wear and everything so I want something kind of casual more laid-back not really glittery or like anthropology is more my style how do I open this right now we are hanging the curtains because the blinds are really drab and not so cute so instead we're using these beautiful ombre curtains that I got at Target twisted and we're doing this thing with a shower curtain rod because the tension rod just fits right into the window oh yes you got it off yeah because that is so ugly I'd rather put our own backing we are implementing a lot of DIY design stuff we have the wonderful faux flower lamps which I did before we have light we have light kind of that anthropology vibe that Alicia really wanted and I also did some flower artwork so it's just a frame with some glued flowers and these are super lightweight frames they're actually plastic so they will be easy to hang on the wall using our sticky strips and no nail so these are really cute these are just paper feathers cut out of fun colored paper and then strung onto thread so it's super lightweight and we are hanging the feather garlands from ATT tension rod so Prett which you can get at Target Kmart Home Improvement store and again no Nails will keep the walls safe more color in the paint chips we are using those free paint chips from the hardware store and then putting the little tacky backing on them and then up on the wall and you're creating kind of like a rainbow effect right now it's kind of Madness in there um Kate only has 45 minutes but she's been doing a good job so far I like the colors but I'm not sure how she's going to pull it off off I don't really know what the end result is going to look like look how cute Alicia this is you and your this is me and my little sister dorm rooms you want to have family photos around so I love this because when you're in your dorm room you want to look at pictures of your family so I'm using a piece of twine that I glued little dried rose buds on and then just strung on the wall with clothes pins to hold up Alicia's pictures and it's personal and girly and fun other tips to remember are using area rugs because that just adds more color and life on the floor I love to put a little faux sheep skin over the chair to make it cozy okay that was crazy I sent Alicia away for the last 10 minutes because I wanted to put all the finishing touches in here
