**The Good and Bad of My Experience with This 4K Phone**
I recently had the opportunity to try out this 4K phone, and I must say that it's been a mixed bag. The device itself is sleek and looks great, but there are some features that I'm not entirely thrilled about.
One of the main issues I've encountered is with the dialer. It keeps crashing and makes it impossible to make or receive calls without the phone becoming unusable. Despite trying different dialers as a default setting, the problem persists. The only time I can use the phone without any issues is when I stick to texting only, which defeats the purpose of having a high-end device.
On the other hand, I have had some positive experiences with the display. When it comes to text, it looks amazing at 1080p, and even though it's not the native resolution of the screen, it still manages to look crisp and sharp. The tiny characters on the screen are incredibly detailed, making reading a joy. However, when it comes to media consumption, the phone runs most content at 4K by default, which is where things get interesting.
Unfortunately, this means that some apps, including Google Photos, don't fully utilize the full 4K resolution of the display. This can lead to some noticeable downsampling on certain types of content. Nevertheless, watching videos on YouTube or other platforms in 4K is still a treat, and I must say that the difference between this screen and others I've seen before is quite noticeable.
Speaking of gaming, the phone's performance is another mixed bag. While some games look stunning at 4K resolution, others are only upscaled to maintain a smooth experience. I've played several games in both 1080p and 4K, and while most games perform well, there's an issue with overheating when playing graphic-intensive titles. This means that if you plan on using your phone for gaming, it's best to keep the resolution at 1080p to avoid the heat buildup.
Despite these issues, I do think that having a 4K display can be beneficial in certain situations. For example, watching videos or browsing the web is where the full potential of the high resolution really shines through. It's like looking outside on a clear day – you feel as though you're immersed in reality.
Overall, while this phone has its ups and downs, I think that it's worth considering for those who want a high-end display experience. However, whether or not 4K is worth the cost depends largely on what you plan to use your phone for. If you're just looking for a general-purpose device, sticking with 1080p might be the way to go.
**Conclusion**
In terms of having a 4K phone like this run in 4K all the time, I agree with Sony's approach of keeping 1080p as the default setting, but also think that they should give users more flexibility when it comes to choosing which apps to use at 4K. It would be nice to have the ability to select specific apps or settings to utilize higher resolutions, rather than being forced into a fixed configuration.
Ultimately, whether or not this phone is worth it for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you want a high-end display experience without the hassle of dealing with performance issues, then this phone might be the right choice for you. But if you're looking for a device that's optimized for everyday use, sticking with 1080p might be a better option.
As I always say, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons before making any purchasing decisions, especially when it comes to high-end devices like this one. By understanding the good and bad of your experience with this phone, you can make an informed decision that suits your lifestyle and preferences.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everybody this is Erica the technology nerd likes to film stuff and right here is the xeria XZ premium and what I want to talk about today is a fun easy little mod that people have been doing in order to enable 4K fulltime on this display now I don't know how many people know this but most of the time everything that you see on the display is being rendered at 1080p the interface is being rendered at 1080p so our games there's only a couple of things where full 4K is enabled such as for YouTube for the gallery application and also when the Amazon Prime Video app is updated we should see the 4K for that as well but there's an easy little mod that you can do and I want to show you how to do it and then I want to talk about my experience over the past couple of days of what it's been like to use a full 4K phone and if it is worth it or if I agree with Sony if they should keep it at 1080p for most things so let's go ahead and check out those experiences so first let's see how to do this you open ADB then you type ADB shell next type WM size 2160 by 3840 and you should immediately see a change lastly type in WM density 820 this will make sure that all the objects are scaled properly or things may look too small or even crash then if you want to make sure that the mod stuck type WM size and it will report back the resolution that you have it at and then you can also type in WM density to have it report back the density as well so what's neat with this is that the 4K mod sticks even after you restart the phone and so now everything that you see is going to be nice and sharp if you want to you can set it to Quad HD resolution instead and mess around with that but the biggest perceivable difference is going to be with 4K so now let's talk about if 4K is useful or not over several different areas number one everyday performance 4K yay or nay I would have to say nay I can see a bit of a drop in performance it's not all the time but I do notice it still scrolling stays pretty nice and smooth the thing that really bugs me though is that the device is almost always warm not doing much of anything at all and I am not a fan of that for that reason alone I might change it back to 1080p another unfortunate thing about having this set to 4K is that the phone dialer keeps crashing and I seem to be able to answer phone calls and even make them but I have no access to controlling the dialer so it essentially makes the phone unusable unless you never make calls and you just text people and I did try setting different dialers as a default and it still has the same issues the last thing that I noticed is that the recents thumbnails just don't show up anymore it's just black and I don't think that's a really big deal breaker but that's just something you should know something positive in everyday use is the text yay it looks much better at 1080p it looks kind of soft and now it looks really crisp and sharp and you can get really small characters in there and they still look incredibly sharp number two how about for media then 4K yay or nay the device already at its default configuration runs media at 4K anyway and that's where it really matters although underneath Google photos it's not utilizing the full 4K of the screen so that's one place where it's nice number three gaming 4K yay or nay actually both and it depends on the experience that you're going for I've played with a lot of games in the 4K mode and some games can adapt to the high resolution and look really fantastic like ocean horn for example and I actually took a couple screen caps side by side one when it's running at 4K and then one when it's running at 1080P and the difference is pretty astounding so for that alone it's pretty cool to see such a high resolution game on this display other games just look upscaled it's really going to depend on the app but I've been happy games actually look pretty nice overall the issue though is with performance for one the the phone gets pretty darn hot whenever you're playing any games but surprisingly most games still perform pretty well for the most part though I would just keep the phone at 1080p for the Optimal Performance within games for example at 1080p graphic intensive games enjoy a nice smooth 60 frames per second on some games but when I play that same game again in 4k we can see that the frame rates start to suffer a bit and then for battery life I think it's going to depend mostly what you do with your phone if you're just on the internet and not doing anything graphic intensive it's not too bad I'm still getting like 4 hours of onc screen time but once you start playing games you can expect it to drop down a little bit more As Told by how hot it gets it's got to be using a lot of power so then what is my conclusion here in terms of having a 4K phone like this run 4K all the time I agree with Sony here in terms of keeping 1080p for most things it really keeps the performance optimal but but I don't like how Sony has implemented everything always having to be 1080p I really think that they should give you the ability to choose which apps you want to be 4K but otherwise by default keep everything as 1080p so kind of like the Galaxy S8 where you can go and choose which apps are full screen you should be able to choose which apps you want in 4k so you could have some games in 4k you could have Chrome in 4k if you want the resolution to be really nice and high but the overall end thoughts here about a 4K phone is that yeah for most things it's Overkill unless you want to enjoy a really nice media experience and I've seen that the difference between watching 4K videos on YouTube on this screen versus watching content on other screens is like knowing you're looking at a display to feeling like you are looking outside a small window at reality that's the best way I can put it the advantage here really is that you don't see any pixels so even if you have 1080p content on this 4K display you're just not seeing any of those pixels and that's what really makes the experience good to me so is it Overkill yes does it have its applications yes is this something that's going to take on everywhere no not unless it's virtual reality so let me know what you guys think about this this is my favorite display over the whole year so far you guys can check out my previous video where I talked about the good points and the bad points and if I would buy this phone or not so thank you everybody for watching this has been Erica the technology
