**Unboxing and First Impressions: Carbon's Galaxy S3**
We've just unboxed the latest offering from Carbon, a smartphone manufacturer known for its sleek designs and feature-packed devices. The device we're reviewing today is the Galaxy S3, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, accompanied by a carbon logo and speaker phone at the bottom.
**Physical Design and Hardware**
The device's physical design is characteristic of Carbon's signature style - a slim and sleek body that fits comfortably in the hand. The back panel features a matte finish, which provides a nice grip and helps to prevent fingerprints from forming. When we pop out the back cover, you'll notice the standard Ice Cream Sandwich skin on display, with minimal branding and a clean aesthetic.
In terms of hardware specifications, the Galaxy S3 is equipped with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (dual core for now), 512 MB of RAM, and 4 GB of internal storage, with expandable storage options up to 32 GB via microSD cards. The device also features a battery capacity of 4000 mAh.
**Software Experience**
When we powered on the device, it loaded quickly into Ice Cream Sandwich, which is slightly different from other devices in this class that run Android 4.1 or later. The home screen features the standard Samsung interface with some minor customizations by Carbon.
One notable feature of the software experience is the support for Wi-Fi Direct and tethering, both of which are built-in features of the device. Additionally, the device comes with a customized dialer skin that's not too far off from the stock Android interface.
**Internet Browser and Touchscreen Performance**
When we launched the device's internet browser, it loaded quickly into our default mobile website (m.in). However, things took a turn for the worse when we tried to view full websites - the browser was unresponsive at times, with poor pinching capabilities that didn't quite work as expected.
The touchscreen performance is also an area where the Galaxy S3 falls short. While the device's overall feel in the hand is nice and comfortable, there are some minor issues with responsiveness, particularly when it comes to panning and scrolling on web pages.
**Additional Features**
In addition to its standard Android features like messaging and social media apps, the Galaxy S3 also comes pre-installed with a range of other applications. These include FM radio, NextG TV, and Poy - all of which are standard features in many high-end devices.
One interesting feature that stood out during our review was the speaker phone's exceptional loudness and clear sound quality. The viewing angles on the device's display are also noteworthy - at times we struggled to believe what we were seeing due to how well the screen displayed when viewed from an angle.
**Conclusion**
The Galaxy S3 is a solid device that checks all the right boxes for those looking for a Android smartphone with modern features and sleek design. While it may not be without its flaws, particularly in terms of software performance and touchscreen responsiveness, we were pleasantly surprised by its build quality, battery life, and overall user experience.
Stay tuned for our upcoming hardware benchmarking tests to see how the Galaxy S3 performs against other devices in this class. front-facing camera which is a 1.3 map camera you have the earpiece up top over here you have the four touch capacitive buttons at the bottom which were essentially for uh gingerbread uh but this device is running Ice Cream Sandwich so possibly an older device that has been updated to run Ice Cream Sandwich if I look at the right hand side is a tab to pull out the back cover on the top over here is the power lock and unlock button along with a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the left hand side is the volume rocker along with a micro USB port for charging and data syncing and on the bottom in settings panel over here you have the standard settings panel let me quickly jump into about device it's running Android 4.0.4 so that's good uh you have the standard uh Ice Cream Sandwich sort of layout for the settings panel uh this does have a white Wi-Fi Direct as well so that's good and you have tethering and portable hotspot which is inbuilt into the device standard Android functions nothing special uh you have the standard dialer which is been customized by carbon a little bit so custom skin change for the dialer let me quickly pop out I want to see if they've done something for the internet uh the keyboard is really nice and responsive while I was uh adding my Wi-Fi networks you will also notice that there is a slight haptic feedback every time you type on the keyboard which is also something that gives you a sort of reassurance that you're typing so it's directly jumping to the full website right now uh you can also visit our mobile website at m. .in uh but you can see that the full website loads up quite snappily and uh fast and responsive uh you can also pinch in to zoom which is not responsive at all as I expected it to be much better than this it's not at all responsive it's very very slow in fact and uh it's not very touch friendly either let me quickly switch from portrait into landscape and you'll see that the switch is seamless kinetic scrolling is good pinching in however is not great at all in fact it's not even pinching in once you pinch in you can pan around but the initial process of pinching is not so great so that's uh the internet browser and sort of touchscreen performance test I'm also going to be doing a hardware Benchmark on this uh really really soon so you can wait for that uh you can look at the standard set of applications over here we do have an FM radio like I said said this is the Galaxy S3 uh live wallpaper which is pre-installed you have nextg TV pre-installed something called poy pre-installed uh you
