CES 2017: BMW's Holographic Future

Hey guys, I'm Austin, and today I'm at CES 2017 at the BMW pavilion where we're going to experience the future of interior design. BMW has been awesome enough to sponsor this video and give us a sneak peek at some exciting features.

As we begin, hold on for a second! What's going on here? We have our HoloActive Touch system, which is made up of three components: a mirror display providing the hologram, an LCD screen reflecting an image that appears to be floating in space, and a gesture camera tracking your finger position using an ultrasonic array.

This technology comes together to create an immersive experience. If you have a screen far away from you, we need to move it closer using holograms. The system can read your biometrics, including heart rate, to determine how you're feeling and recommend routes based on that.

For instance, if you want a leisurely drive around the lake, the system will suggest a calm route based on your current mood. But where are these biometrics? They're built into the seat, which also features speakers in the headrests for directionals and shakers built into the seat back for a more immersive experience.

We can take video calls directly from this car, with the system scrubbing through content to give you recommendations. For example, if someone breaks their shoelace during a game, we can send them a pair of new ones right away thanks to Amazon Prime Air connection.

I have to admit, I'm sitting in The Matrix right now! This is truly unbelievable. We're talking about the future here, where you get holograms, audio, and clever technology that figures out what someone is saying in real-time and orders something for them. It's wild!

I don't know how long this will take to come to life, but the idea presented today is something I never want to see end – it's too awesome!

(laughing)- Can I just take thishome with me right now?- Yes.- I'll level with you for a second, right.I was walking over here, I'm like,this is kind of aninteresting looking car.I sit in here, I'm actuallyin The Matrix right now.- Yep.- This is unreal.- So this is the idea that we havein this me time, we time thatwe've been talking about.- Dude, thank you so much, thisis absolutely unbelievable.My car is terrible now, I needa new one with all of this.I need holograms, I needholograms in my life right now.Obviously this is not somethingthat you can buy today, right?But the idea that you get the hologram.You get the audio.You get the cleverness of beingable to actually figure outwhat somebody is saying in real time,figure out the intentand then order somethingfrom that, is wild.I don't know how long this is going to beuntil it actually comes out.But that was the future.Like I legit don't knowwhat to say right nowbecause that was the future.This is awesome.
