Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe 2017 review - man vs machine _ Mat Watson Reviews

**A Racing Experience Like No Other: Testing the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe**

For me, racing is an exhilarating experience that allows me to push my driving skills to the limit and test the capabilities of some of the world's most incredible performance cars. But sometimes, I like to mix things up by testing a car against its human counterpart - someone who isn't built for speed but can still hold their own on the track. In this article, I'll be sharing my experience with the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, a car that promises to deliver blistering acceleration and handling prowess.

To begin, I had to learn the procedure for using launch control in the C63 Coupe, which is called "race start" in this model. The process was relatively straightforward: switch to sports mode, engage the manual gearshift, and then use both paddles to activate launch control while holding onto the brake pedal. With that done, I could finally get behind the wheel and put the car through its paces.

As soon as I started the engine, I knew we were in for a treat. The C63 Coupe's 4.0-liter V8 produces an astonishing 700 Newton-meters of torque, which is more than enough to propel this car from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds - a feat that would put even some of the most exotic supercars to shame. But I wasn't here to simply test the car's acceleration; I wanted to see how it would perform against a human opponent.

The runner I was competing against was a bit of an oddity - a human who had been built for comfort rather than speed. This meant that they were likely to be a more challenging opponent, as their lack of experience with high-performance cars could make them prone to overconfidence and mistakes on the track. So, I set out to beat them to the finish line by using launch control to get the C63 Coupe out of the starting gate quickly.

The run was underway, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I took off from 0-60 mph. The car surged forward with incredible force, its rear tires squealing in protest as it accelerated down the track. My initial instinct was to keep pushing harder, but then I realized that this wasn't just about winning - it was also about having fun.

As I hurtled towards the finish line, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and elation. The C63 Coupe's handling was sublime, its agility and responsiveness making it a joy to drive on the track. And yet, despite its incredible acceleration, the car was still surprisingly controllable - something that I appreciated as I pushed it hard.

After crossing the finish line, I realized that I had managed to beat my human opponent by a hair's breadth. It was a close run, but ultimately, the C63 Coupe's impressive performance had given me the edge I needed to take the win. And yet, despite its incredible acceleration and handling prowess, there were still some areas where the car fell short - namely, its steering.

Unlike some other high-performance cars on the market, the C63 Coupe's steering feels more like a subtle hint rather than a direct connection to the road. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as it can make the car feel more refined and composed at higher speeds. But for a driver who craves that raw, visceral connection with the road, this might be seen as a drawback.

Fortunately, the C63 Coupe has some other redeeming qualities that make up for its less-than-ideal steering. For one thing, it's incredibly comfortable - especially when switched to comfort mode. The car's adaptive suspension system makes adjustments to its ride height and damping in real-time, ensuring that the ride is smooth and refined even on bumpy roads.

And then there's the interior - a beautifully appointed space with top-notch materials and craftsmanship. This is a car that feels like it was designed to be driven by someone who values luxury and refinement as much as raw performance. Whether you're cruising down the highway or carving up the track, the C63 Coupe's cabin is a haven of comfort and sophistication.

Of course, no discussion of the C63 Coupe would be complete without mentioning its price - a whopping £62,000 for the coupe model alone. But if you're looking for a high-performance car that can deliver incredible acceleration and handling prowess without breaking the bank, then this might be worth considering. After all, with the right spec and options, it's possible to save around £5,000 on the sticker price - making it a more affordable option for those who want to experience the thrill of driving a high-performance car.

**Conclusion**

Testing the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to push this incredible performance car to its limits. With its blistering acceleration and handling prowess, the C63 Coupe is undoubtedly one of the most exciting cars on the market - but it's also a complex and nuanced driving machine that requires skill and finesse to truly appreciate.

Whether you're a seasoned racing enthusiast or just someone who loves the thrill of driving a high-performance car, the C63 Coupe is an experience worth trying. With its incredible acceleration, handling prowess, and luxurious interior, this car has something for everyone - and it's sure to leave even the most hardened racing enthusiasts wanting more.

should be able to do not to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds if you use launch control however for each car I test I first need to learn the procedure and it's easier in some cars than in others to find out how the C63 FS I'm going to have a race against a human a human that unlike the car is built for Comfort rather than speed so what's going to happen is when the start starts the race the run is going to go and I'm going to pick up the manual I'm going to figure out how to engage launch control I'm going to engage it and then I'm going to launch and I'm going to race the runner and see if I can beat them to that cone so let's see what happens 2 right here we go get the manual I know in this car launch is called race start so where is it in the index come on come on okay put the car into sports mode sports mode engage put it into drive left foot on the brake it's on the brake pull both paddles up together the right paddle to confirm yes I do want a race start floor the Thro put the manual down and go come on car come on come on I'm got to catch it oh it's slippery there he is there he is can I pass him can I pling that was close fortunately the car managed to beat the human actually once you've learned the launch control system it's dead quick to engage so so long as the car is in anything other than Comfort mode as for the time let's see well that took 4.6 seconds not too bad considering the track is slippery and the C63 has a tendency to light up its rear tires so this engine produces 700 Newton M of torque and to put that into perspective for you that's more pulling power than you get from a Ferrari F12 and the best thing is is that it's available from under 2,000 RPM so you put your foot down and this thing it just takes off and it makes the sound of an old I'm talking about the the World War II airplane that sound like that if you turn the c63s electronics stability control off the car turns into an absolute hully gun hopefully James won't mind me returning his car with a little less rubber on its tires for me the treeb of this car is that while it's as wild as a wolf it can also be as controllable as a sheep dog and if you put the car into sports handling mode it gives you a little bit of tail slip if you want it but we'll safely gather you up before you go past the point of no return that's brilliant if you want to feel like a driving God but you don't want to actually be exposed eventually as a false profit as you end up backwards in a ditch the only real let down to the whole experience is perhaps the steering yes it works but unlike in some other performance cars it doesn't let you feel the road and so it's a bit like trying to read Braille while wearing ofen gloves still you don't always want to feel things do you and as you cycle this car through various driving modes going from race to Sport Plus to Sport and then to comfort you can feel it gently lower its guard and just become a little bit more chilled out as the throttle response softens and the Adaptive suspension just relaxes and it becomes more comfortable and even the exhaust note it becomes quieter as you go through those stages and yeah then it's a reasonably comfy car to just pole around in then you're left with a normal Mercedes C-Class Coupe that means a comfy cruiser with a high class cabin which feels topnotch the only let down is the infotainment system which isn't as good as that in a BMW M4 the BMW is better for carrying rear passengers too but then that's not the point of a coupe now is it if your mates moan they can bloody well get out and walk because after all this thing is anything but a cheap ride for starters this is an expensive car to run so Mercedes claims it should be capable of 33 mil per gallon but since he's
