BEST BMW EVER! 2023 BMW M4 CSL Review

The Infotainment System: A Closer Look at BMW's Latest Offering

The infotainment system on this particular BMW model is old, with features such as Optics and wow wow. While it may seem outdated compared to modern systems, it still provides a unique driving experience. The fact that the grill has been modified to make it lighter is also noteworthy, as it adds to the overall weight reduction of the car.

The Customizable M1 and M2 Buttons

One of the standout features of this BMW model is the customizable M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel. These buttons offer a high level of personalization, allowing drivers to tailor their driving experience to suit their preferences. The presence of these buttons is a testament to the car's focus on performance and driver engagement.

The Head-Up Display: A Mixed Blessing

The head-up display on this BMW model is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it provides valuable information such as speed and navigation instructions without taking eyes off the road. On the other hand, if placed too far forward, it can be distracting and affect the driver's ability to see other cars or pedestrians.

The Shift Lights: A Feature of Confusion

The shift lights on this BMW model are a feature that is both intriguing and confusing. When activated, they provide visual cues to help drivers find the optimal gear for the speed at which they are traveling. However, their placement can be off-putting, particularly when driving in certain types of cars.

Suspension: A Surprise

Despite initial expectations, the suspension on this BMW model is surprisingly good. The car's stiffness and responsiveness have been honed to perfection, making it a joy to drive both on and off the track. The fact that it has set multiple records at the Nurburgring, including the fastest time ever recorded for a BMW, speaks volumes about its capabilities.

The Reverse Camera: A Disappointment

One feature that has left some drivers underwhelmed is the presence of only a reverse camera. While this may seem like a minor issue, it can be frustrating when trying to maneuver in tight spaces or park the car. The lack of a full 360-degree camera system is a notable omission.

The Visor Test: A Matter of Preference

The visors on this BMW model are designed to be extendable, allowing drivers to customize their viewing angle and reduce glare. However, some may find this feature to be more of a nuisance than a convenience. It's ultimately a matter of personal preference whether or not the visors are useful.

Price: A Steep Ask

The price of this BMW model is steep, starting at $166,500 CAD with options such as the Frozen Brooklyn Gray paint job adding an additional $4,000. When compared to similar models, such as the M340i and GT4 RS, it's clear that this car comes with a premium price tag. Whether or not the cost justifies the experience depends on individual priorities and driving habits.

Daily Driving: A Questionable Feasibility

While some may question whether this BMW model is suitable for daily driving, others see no issue with using such a performance-oriented car in everyday life. The fact that it's difficult to justify the expense of owning such an exotic vehicle suggests that it may be better suited for track days or special occasions.

Manual Transmission: A Must-Have Feature

The question on everyone's mind is whether this BMW model should come in manual transmission. While the CFA (Continuously Failing Automatic) shifts surprisingly well, many enthusiasts would prefer the more precise control offered by a manual transmission. However, this feature remains a topic of debate among driving purists.

Car of the Year: A Close Call

In terms of Car of the Year, it's difficult to say which car comes out on top. The GT4 RS, while an excellent performer in its own right, may not be as refined or accessible as this BMW model. Ultimately, the decision depends on individual priorities and driving styles.

Conclusion

The BMW M4 CSL is a high-performance machine that offers a unique driving experience, with features such as customizable buttons, head-up displays, and manual transmissions. While it comes with a premium price tag, those who can afford it may find themselves drawn to its exceptional performance and handling capabilities.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enforeign but first we got to do the intro I'm Jacob we're going for a drive 2023 BMW M4 CSL with launch control rocket ship damn it horse barn dark 543 horsepower 479 pound-feet of torque from a twin turbo inline six cylinder that we got very poor launch there because rear wheel drive cold slower down get no low gear and give me a little around here we go let's go into second and he's skating on me there this thing rips uh the rear tires feel like they just want to lose grip at any moment which makes this so fun to drive I'm driving with traction come on one up what for cliche according to traction no way no no no this is a car that's meant to be driven the traction off so what is this car is it a race car for the road oh yeah it's the most cliche thing we could say through cliche corner but it really kind of is uh the CSL has not existed since the E46 which is a very long time ago and this is the third official CSL model what does CSL stand for competition Sport and lightweight which it used to stand for Coupe Sports and lightweight interesting and we got that right from the horse's mouth yes as BMW calls it the BMW press group so let's get into all the changes for this besides the red electrical tape everywhere yes uh this is basically the mansory Edition BMW I will say that out right off the bat but uh let's start with that engine so it is still the s58 engine however they added a hell of a lot more horsepower but the torque is still the same but you do really feel those extra horsepowers through the increased boost pressure and I believe this engine makes this the fastest M3 M4 ever and possibly even one of the fastest BMWs ever in terms of top speed like launch and top speed uh top speed the thing we never refer to because we can't ever do the top speed of anything yeah top speed does not matter in Canada at least like maybe in some of the states maybe in Europe when you can travel to Germany to drive cars and that's like going from Toronto Montreal yeah exactly uh so let's just send this man Street Edition through cliche Corner uh the ZF 8 speed Auto has been completely retuned and it is incredible and the grip from this car is insane like it just wants to snap on you it's so much fun to drive it does feel like a race car you can hear all the little Pebbles and everything and the control the steering all the inputs are fantastic this drives as good as the M2 CS that I loved so much I there's no manual version for this no there isn't but like yeah driving this is this is one of those cars that I cannot restrain Myself by just driving too fast too aggressively all the time yeah so I'm gonna break down all those things I said through there so the transmission has been retuned and I'm surprised that they've basically made this feel like a dual clutch it shifts so quickly so hard yeah like every shift you feel and it's so fun and like like that like he just wants to freaking but if you dial it down it's nice and comfy yes you can dial down the shifting on your actual shifter there's three different modes for transition speech of and then the steering it's incredibly light BMWs always have really stiff steering this one doesn't so when you dial this into Comfort steering it's like insanely comfortable yeah it's just it's nice but this shows me that they're just artificially over boosting and they're making like m340i way too stiff for no reason in terms of stuff to sell people on it being a race car but it also makes this artificially in my head make the car feel lighter even though it is it's like 240 pounds lighter which I guess you do feel but the steering kind of helps with that as well so to make it lighter I noticed a whole bunch of carbon fiber like the hood is carbon fiber the trunk is carbon fiber with that cool ducktail spoiler built in yeah the roof is carbon fiber a lot of the body panels are carbon fiber and it's crfp carbon fiber reinforced plastic and then uh we got lighter seats in here and no rear seats yes and the seats are fully fixed carbon buckets and they're more buckety and more fixed than the M4 competition optional C and I actually find them kind of comfortable once I'm in them even getting in and out I can kind of use this CSL thing which I think is literally the reason why they put this here to kind of push myself out of the car for me the uh I just slide the seats back with the manual thing every time and what else do you have to do in this when you drive or do you want to save that for when you drive I'll save from what I drive yeah so the seats are not very adjustable but honestly they're actually quite comfortable and then for the racetrack you can remove this because that uh net back there is only meant to hold race buckets so when you have here it says no luggage yeah so when you have your race bucket on this would kind of interfere and put you at the wrong angle but bringing it back these seats are very adjustable it's just a different type of adjustment that you can do manually adjustable yes but you still can't like recline the back but I do think that these are at a better angle than Porsche carbon buckets so there you go BMW I'll comment my last thing when I get in the driver's seat okay sounds good what else is cool about this we got carbon fiber on the steering wheel carbon fiber on the interior carbon fiber on the shift paddles like everywhere okay some other stuff that they use to lighten the weight there are no rear speakers yeah I think that's the light knit because like I was like I'm like oh it's a little too uh much audio at the front when I was driving and I'm like how do I go to the back there is no option to the back yeah well what about the cup holders obviously like a hole in a thing wouldn't need no hard it was to drive with a coffee a sandwich and I'm steering with my knee put on your lipstick like I don't care how rich you are whatever like people still like to go get coffee the fact that this still has power folding mirrors oh my goodness but that's like they wanted the perception and Optics of this to be like hardcore no cup holder even though there is a cup holder in a GT4 RS well there's only 41 of these coming to Canada and this is one of them yep and there's a thousand globally and this is not for normal people this is just for rich people to be their fun track toy that they probably won't drive so like if like none of you are gonna ever have a chance to drive this car on this car so don't even worry about it yeah but if you do want one of these and there is one possibly ever available tsb.truecard.com discounted price offers or just shop for an M4 competition while you're there you'd probably want the cslr if you can go to a regular M4 competition and one of the other really noticeable things that they did is there's less sound insulation you kind of hear every little Pebble that you drive over which reminds me of my very short experiences in a couple race cars because that's all you really heard you're like holy crap these tires are really picking up all the Pebbles and you can just hear them in the wheel wells yeah I like I like the sound and everything I feel it feels really nice to me yeah and this engine pulls so hard once the Boost kicks in it's actually nuts like it kind of just wants to rip the tires loose at high RPMs like all the times like right now waiting waiting and then like there it is it's like oh boy what is going to happen here if I have full traction off it definitely feels like way way faster than I am for it does um this thing reveals more than 40 horsepower and a little weight reduction faster yes this rips so hard I really enjoy my time driving this like driving Dynamics wise this is fantastic but there's a lot of look stuff that we still need to address so let's get you into the driver's seat of this one of 41 Edition in Canada ever all right oh yeah the blanket I didn't have a pillow so I got a nice little blanket to sit on to raise me up because whoever set this car up obviously didn't take my height into consideration I had to set up at the lowest height yeah so it is height adjustable but you have to undo a bunch of Allen bolts and it was perfect for me at that driving position yeah a bit a lot nicer to have one of those Porsche buckets with the electronic lifting and lowering true launch control oh that was better foreign yeah so 0-60 and 3.6 and that felt like it man this is late but the launch is like pretty weak yeah because it's like there's just no grip in it this just this isn't I know I know I know but you have to mention it you do okay that buzziness is like very fuzzy yes uh so we have a titanium Muffler which does sound pretty good from the outside in here it's actually quite Buzzy I feel like there's got to be some pumped in this too right let's delete that right now no I don't think it's pumped in here it's still Buzzy in here yes looks so this is uh the color that I think they all are because in the infotainment that's the color that it is I really like the carbon fiber stripes with the orange outlines everywhere it looks tacky to me it looks like people who poorly modify their BMWs with the three stripes mensory no no like just like normal yeah yeah because like this it looks Canadian tired to me and for everyone in Canada or for USA that's like making your car Pep Boys I guess yeah or AutoZone or something but I get it then it makes it look differently and like it does still kind of look cool it does but nowhere near as cool as that previous gen M4 GTS yes which was a GTS although it's kind of in the same lineage it's just not a CSL yeah and it all comes down to me to those stripes and so like if we got rid of all that and just made it this color and maybe the stripes with no red outline yes but as my opinion and I'm not in line to buy one they won't sell me one hey man I'm of the same opinion but what the coolest part is we got yellow headlights in some situations yeah so like the M5 CS you can't have Amber headlights in Canada at full daytime running lights North America so they have them Amber when you have your forehead lights on and when it's just your drls they go white and when you start them up and whatever they are just Amber until they get the car running yeah so it's a North American regulation that yellow cannot be the only light emitted from the front yeah so BMW fog lights in this Shadow Kia Telluride put fog lights in this and then it counts yeah I didn't tell you right in the Hyundai Genesis do it I don't know I actually don't know but maybe because it's Amber not yellow two different colors anyways it does look cool and like that part looks cool the tail lights look super amazing they're so intricate compared to a regular M4 bro they're lasers literally laser beams yeah there's like warnings on them but like yeah the car looks cool a lot of it does look cool yeah the exhaust looks cool I love seeing the titanium-ness of the muffler that's how you know with the blue stuff everywhere it's like burnt in I really like the ridges in the roof and in the trunk for rigidity and the wheels look awesome yeah they look Wicked but like only in some situations because they're so dark yes I wish they were gold or something and what would be the Continental recommended tire for the M4 CSL one of 41 in Canada the Continental extreme contact force maybe some Viking contact sevens for winter you're definitely gonna store this and put like four kilometers on it in a year take it to Carson coffee and then just talk about how rich you are Cars and Coffee bro you need a cup holder for carbs and coffee no you park you just stand outside I guess so then inside I actually really like all this carbon fiber because I know it's super real carbon fiber and I love the CSL right here and back there yeah massive CSL there deleted cup holders but we still have a wireless charger which how heavy is that maybe they need that because it's like Wireless Apple carplay only you want your phone flying around here in a race car like this Yuri okay how about the info yeah they need to cover like the Supra yeah how about the infotainment works great no problems it does it's like it feels last gen because yeah well I think the new M3s are the New Gen of infotainment but this still has the old one exactly because that's a 23 but it's kind of a 22-ish is this their Flagship Car yeah and it has the old infotainment wow wow Optics on that eh oh and back to some lightweight stuff the grill apparently they removed some slats to make it lighter too yes interesting shapes though I'm down with it you know it would make it even lighter just make a smaller Grill yo rip that plate oh yes gotta get rid of those plates yeah you do yeah we can't use rip titles anymore because it's after Halloween that's what Jacob told me because he doesn't like the title that's not what I said and uh you also have the customizable M1 and M2 buttons on your steering wheel yeah that's nice and then this does have a head-up display but if you turn off the head-up display then you get the shift lights in the attack but if that helps place on then you don't get the shift lights on the tag so we turn that off I'm gonna put it to uh traction MDM because uh on the road I don't feel like dealing with it right now yeah and then uh suspension wise this is actually really good I expected this to be punishing and it's not like even in the stiffest mode sport the middle mode was actually developed for the Nurburgring and this is the fastest BMW to everlap the Nurburgring oh six seven minutes 20 seconds or something something like that and this is probably gonna make it the fastest BMW around cliche corner oh this is so grippy for like a confident feeling for like rear wheel drive wow it's so weird though it tied every other car because we want the speed limit feeling bro feeling and then this only has a reverse camera which kind of sucks I'd like the full 360 camera they can add the voice controls and the mirrors folding nah give me the full 360. the camera's way too much all right and then uh visor test yes extend the visors but not to lift the seat up for me hey man race car you always got to be able to see all right I think that's pretty much everything should we get to the price not that it matters because they're not gonna sell you one and they're probably already sold out to everyone who bought one already it is ridiculously expensive it starts at 166 500. Canadian and with this Frozen Brooklyn gray paint for four thousand dollars that makes this 170 thousand five hundred dollars and how much is that over a regular M4 competition um it's about seventy thousand dollars more than the one that we drove which is an m340i worth between them worth it I mean like carbon Ceramics add a lot of money to it as it is too look if you're a BMW collector which reasonably is the only person that's going to buy this just buy it it's a really good car money but if you're like do I want something like an M4 maybe just get the M4 because you could daily that like you can't daily this this is like a parking in the garage there's no way a BMW dealership will sell this to you if you don't already have m4s maybe you have like an E30 M3 but like a collection of like then you don't care about that and then for daily driving I think we were talking about this earlier James like oh it's not the best for daily driving but if if you can afford this your daily job is probably something weird where it's just fine to drive with crypto gun crypto God I was thinking like Charles cryptocurrency has one of these your uh your daily drive to the racetrack to impress clients with your race car yeah then it's perfect for daily driving yeah because you're probably you work for crypto.com you sponsor formula one and you have like 41 of these on order okay now my question question would you want this in a manual transmission to end things off I mean of course I would but this CFA is mad that it doesn't no this this shifts so well although I have been able to get it to like do weird bog down stuff like a dual clutch which is actually kind of impressive for an auto to do that but then you could just dial down your shift speed and it's fine well if this came in a manual transmission would it be car of the year I mean it might already be car of the year however the GT4 RS which you didn't drive I loved and it's kind of the similar price if you don't fully spec it out it was within twenty thousand dollars what's your choice what's your choice since you've driven them both it's going to be the judge of all that GT4 RS oh gt4rs Car of the Year sorry M4 CSL but this is like a very close second thanks for watching don't forget to subscribe hit the notification Bell patreon.com strip pipes thumbs up Teespring shirts all of that thanks for watching miles on Instagram also C6 Corvette\n"
