RetroPie 4.2 Released! Raspberry pi Emulation

Retropi 4.2 Release: A New Era for Retro Gaming Enthusiasts

Hey there guys, it's ETA Prime back here again today, and I'm excited to share with you that Retropi 4.2 has been released on March 20th, 2017. This new release brings loads of changes and improvements, so if you haven't updated your RetroPi setup yet, now is the perfect time to do so. You can either update through the Retropi setup script or download the latest version of 4.2 from scratch - personally, I usually opt for a fresh install when a new release comes out.

Let's dive into the documentation and check out the change log real quick. Version 4.2 brings some amazing improvements to the table. Emulation Station Improvements: One of the most significant changes is the addition of video support right out of the box when you download RetroPi and install it. However, there's a slight catch - you'll need to have a theme that works with videos, as not all themes are compatible with video playback.

Another issue that was plagued by many users was the "white screen of death" problem. It turned out that having eight or twelve emulators installed at the same time would often cause this issue, but thankfully, it's now supposedly fixed. The support for the ooid C2 is also coming up soon, so stay tuned for that update.

Another exciting development is the addition of Cod 17 to optional packages. Many users have been crying out for this, and I must admit that I don't mind using Jarvis myself, but everyone wanted the new Krypton Cody build, which is now installable from the Retropi setup script. The Advanced M has also been updated and split into three separate packages: 0.94, 1.4, and 3.3.

Retroarch 1.5.0 has also been updated with lots of fixes, so be sure to check it out and install it if you haven't already. One of the coolest things that I'm actually excited about is Amiberry - an Amiga emulator which is an updated Fork of the UAE for arm. It's got more features built-in, and I'll definitely be making some videos on this new um amga emulator. I've always used UAE for arm, so it'll be interesting to try out the Amiga emulator.

The video support in Amiberry is what I'm most excited about - there's a lot of other stuff here as well, including the new sdl2 updated to 2.0.5 and tons of other improvements. But like I said, best bet is to install it and try it out, as you can always do an update later on. If you're not really into rebuilding your RetroPi system, go ahead and update from the Retro Pi setup script instead.

In conclusion, Retropi 4.2 brings a whole new level of excitement for retro gaming enthusiasts. With its improved emulation station, video support, and updated packages, this release is definitely worth checking out. I've left links to the Retropi website where you can download 4.2, as well as the change logs, so be sure to check them out. Thanks for watching!
