The Adonit Note: A Great Alternative to Apple's Pencil Ecosystem?
This is the ad in it note, an Apple pencil alternative for the 6th generation iPad, iPad Mini 5, third generation iPad Air, as well as the 2018 iPad Pros. Should you pick this up? The ad in it note is a great alternative for those who want to enter Apple's pencil ecosystem. It doesn't officially state that it's using Apple's pencil technology, but it works like one, just like the Logitech Crayon.
You don't need to toggle Bluetooth on and connect the pen; simply turn on the note, and you're connected immediately. The ad in it note looks really good, sleek, lightweight, and it also mimics a fine pen, which is perfect for jotting down notes. The note comes in two different colors: black and gold, both of which have a nice copper color accent to them. There's a power button about a third way up the barrel of the pen, which in our opinion isn't really a good place because we often make the mistake of pressing it as a secondary button; however, it doesn't really do anything other than turn the pen on or off.
The tip of the pen is also removable, just like the Apple pencil. Unfortunately, they didn't include an extra tip in the box, but adding it says that they'll be able to provide a pack of three for $15 in the near future. Up top, there's a micro USB port to charge the battery, and it adds that you can get an hour of use in just four minutes, which is pretty impressive. We've only had the pen for a week, and so far, we've only had to charge the pen once.
Now, how does it compare to Apple's pencil? The Adonit note isn't really an accessory for digital artists like the pencil since it doesn't offer pressure sensitivity. However, it does offer tilt just like the Logitech Crayon, as well as palm rejection technology, so you won't have any weird inputs when drawing or jotting down notes using the note on our 2018 iPad Pro. We didn't really notice a huge difference in latency between a second-generation Apple pencil or Logitech Crayon.
We actually love how the note feels in our hands versus the other two styluses; it just feels more natural due to its size and build. If you're in the market for a stylus for your brand-new iPad, definitely consider checking out the Adonit Note. However, be aware of the compromises you'll run into, such as charging with microUSB and not having pressure sensitivity like the Apple pencil.
But if those two things aren't deal-breakers, then check out the links below; you can pick them up. The Adonit note retails for just $49, while the Apple pencil retails at $129, and Logitech Crayon retails at $49.
