The 100th Anniversary Celebration at Knott's Berry Farm: A Carousel Challenge

As we arrived at Knott's Berry Farm, the excitement was palpable. We were there to celebrate the park's 100th anniversary and had been tasked with creating a show-stopping carousel that would impress the judges. The challenge was clear: build a carousel that spins, has horses and animals that go up and down, lights up, and shoots popcorn into the air.

We knew we had our work cut out for us, but we were determined to make it happen. We decided to focus on beauty rather than size, wanting our carousel to be a stunning work of art rather than a giant spectacle. Our team began assembling the cameos, starting with the smaller ones that would adorn the backs of the chairs and working their way up to the larger ones at the top of the carousel. These cameos were a combination of 2D images created from modeling chocolate and fondant, which we had accented with filigree molds to add depth and detail.

As we worked on our carousel, we couldn't help but be inspired by the paintings that adorned many classic carousels. We saw bison, one of Duff's favorite animals, and decided to create portraits of them. Each buffalo was carefully crafted to look as lifelike as possible, with intricate details and textures that added to their charm. Our team worked tirelessly, using common sense and determination to bring our vision to life.

One of the most fun parts of building our carousel was adding the finishing touches - like saddles for our chicken friends. We wanted to make them look cute and pretty, so we carefully decorated each one with colorful accessories that added a playful touch to the overall design. And yes, one of our chickens even had flip-flops on it - because why not? Our team worked together seamlessly, each member contributing their skills and talents to bring our carousel to life.

As we finished up our creation, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. We had built an actual carousel from scratch, using molds and hand-sculpting techniques to create the intricate details that would make it shine. And now, it was time to deliver it to Knott's Berry Farm. With a sense of excitement and anticipation, we set off on our journey, eager to share our masterpiece with the world.

Finally, we arrived at the park and presented our creation to the crowd. It was time for us to show off our carousel, spinning it around and having each other catch popcorn that shot high into the air. The audience cheered as we rode the carousel, admiring its beauty and complexity. And as we stood there, grinning from ear to ear, we knew that all our hard work had paid off. not go for size okay let's go for beauty so we're making a uh carousel that spins and horses and all the animals kind of go up and down and it lights up and then we hit a button and it shoots popcorn about 20 feet in the air and everybody holds out their cups and then they catch popcorn all right let's do it so i'm gonna start assembling the cameos i'm gonna do the ones for the backs of the chairs first and then work my way to the bigger ones that are gonna be at the top of the carousel these pictures are a combination of 2d images that we've done out of modeling chocolate and fondant and then they're accented with all of the filigree molds so they have a lot of depth they're like extra fancy pictures this guy he has had too much grass so he's having a nap you know one of the cool things about carousel is that they have these like paintings all over so i saw those bison on there and uh i like bison so i'm gonna do portraits of bison look at that buff man he's great the buffalo is very important in this cake duff loves buffalo i want to make sure he looks good duffel the whole thing is basically just a an easel to hold my buffalo masterpieces so you know they are masterpieces each one okay you and back you get on we'll hold hands so we don't fall off the link arms okay ready let's go this is the best part of this whole trip except for banking we're doing it i never built a ride or a carousel but i'm going to use my common sense and my will to never give up to make this happen we're making an actual carousel we used molds to make some of these and we also hand sculpted some so here we have our chicken they will be like so and then we're going to decorate them give them saddles make them cute and pretty does the chicken have flip flops on yes oh my god there's a chicken and flip-flops on the cake now we have time for the cake to go that works perfectly oh it's gonna look so nice it looks great it's time to deliver it i love it i'm psyched come to me come all the way
