OnePlus 3 - Review - OnePlus's newest $399 Flagship 2016 Smartphone

The OnePlus 3: A Smartphone that Offers Strong Value with High-End Specs

You've doubtless heard of OnePlus, the smartphone brand that brings us strong reliable and solid value smartphones that still include some high-end specs to draw Us in well this is the OnePlus 3 and it's the first model really made by the manufacturer that you're going to want to buy because it's gorgeous and there's a bit of a bonus not only has it kept the low price tag but it's also packed full of the latest technology.

This is a metal body, the first time for a OnePlus phone, and it's super smooth. This minimalist design on the rear means you've just got a OnePlus logo that's it, there's no uh FCC logos or anything at the bottom, it's really Sleek, it's also very slim, it's around 7.8 mm in thickness.

You got a little bit of a camera bump on the back there and on the front is a 5 1/2 inch screen, but what's surprising is how compact this phone is. We've got a LG G5 here which has a smaller screen but still manages to be pretty much the same size that's what a great job OnePlus has done with fitting such a nice screen into the OnePlus 3.

Before we have a look at the display there's one thing we will highlight on the side here and that's this really cool little switch, we've seen it before we've seen it on the one plus two and what it does is adjust notification alerts for you so it's two stages like that and it switches your notifications to either all of them sounding and alerts when they come through to some with only the priority setting to silent with the setting like that so it's really handy.

It's something we use quite a lot, amazing we don't see other phones with it to be absolutely honest. The top is completely free of interruption and you have have the headphone port at the bottom alongside a USB type-c charging port and the speakers. One interesting thing about the charging on this phone is that it's fast charging for the first time on a OnePlus phone, and that's pretty cool.

Because we've managed to get about an hour and 15 minutes charged and that's from 0 to 100% so it's really quick, OnePlus says you'll get about 60% in 30 minutes so this is a fast charging smartphone inside is a Snapdragon 820 processor and 6 GB of RAM there are a few caveats to that and you'll read them in our full review.

Moving on from that, this is a 5.5 inch 1080P screen, OnePlus calls it an optic AMOLED, what that basically means is that it's an AMOLED display with a few different tuning, uh a bit of tuning done by OnePlus to give it a different look, it's incredibly bright the contrast is great, we put alongside a Galaxy S7 and there's little to split them it really does look fantastic.

Android is the operating system and OnePlus puts its oxygen OS user interface over the top as you can see from here, it's pretty similar to standard Android, the notification shade slides down and it looks again fairly similar. You really won't notice many changes one of the major ones is sliding in the Shelf system on the side, what shelf does it act as a little space for your Android widgets we've got Twitter on here and Google Play Music.

And also gives you your list of frequently used apps handy but if you don't like it you can turn it off there's also very few um pre-installed apps from OnePlus, there's a gallery um a file manager and a few other little things but nothing that's going to steal away space. You'll notice an Android pay icon just here that's because you've got NFC and a fingerprint sensor on board the OnePlus 3 so you can use it for mobile payments around.

The back of this phone is where we have the camera, a 16 megapixel camera and we've been pretty impressed with the results, you can see some test shots in our full review on the site. We rather like the OnePlus 3, it's definitely the best phone the company has made yet and seeing as it's only made four this is really pretty impressive.
