We're Back with iOS 12.2 Beta 3: A Comprehensive Look at the Latest Changes
We're back once again to bring you the latest beta of iOS 12.2, this time in its third iteration. As Andrew from Apple Insider, we've just finished installing the update and are excited to share our findings with you. In our previous videos, we've covered a significant number of changes, but in this third beta, we've got even more exciting updates to share.
First up, let's dive into the settings app. In general, there's a new section that's been expanded from "About" and includes information such as the model name. This is a significant change, as it gives you a better idea of the exact phone you have, beyond just the opaque model identifier seen in earlier betas.
Moving on to the Wallet app, we've noticed some notable updates. Specifically, how transactions are displayed for your included cards on the Apple Pay Cash card has been improved. However, there is one line that's no longer present – a button for adding additional funds and showing the balance. While you can still access this information by tapping the ellipsis in the top right-hand corner, it's no longer visible as a standalone line.
Another significant update we've spotted is related to the Apple News app. In earlier betas, there was evidence that Apple would be supporting a subscription service, and it's also coming to Canada. However, in this third beta, we have a new Apple News icon – simply an Apple logo followed by "News." This may seem like a minor change, but it's still worth noting.
Apple had some bad press recently due to a glaring security hole discovered in group FaceTime. To address this issue, they disabled the functionality on the back end until iOS 12.1 was released to fix the problem. Fortunately, at the beta 3 level of iOS 12 point, group FaceTime functionality has been restored.
There's also been some concern expressed about the date being displayed on the lock screen for a longer period than expected – instead of showing only the date, it would display the charge percentage as well. However, in this third beta, that issue has been rectified, and the display is now back to normal, showing only the date until you plug your phone in.
One of the most exciting updates we've spotted related to iOS 12.2 is its integration with HomeKit. This update brings home kit TVs and other functionality to Apple's HomeKit ecosystem, but what's more interesting is the redesign of the remote widget inside Center. The remote widget has been redesigned again, still full-screen and allowing you to choose your device from the top – whether it's an Apple TV or a TV set that includes HomeKit. However, the buttons on the bottom have been laid out in a much better fashion.
Another minor change we've noticed is related to the music app. When you go to play a music video, it no longer expands to full screen immediately as it did in previous versions. This may seem like a small thing, but it's an interesting change nonetheless.
So, what do our viewers think of iOS 12.2 so far? Have you taken the plunge into the public beta and found it stable?
