Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs iPhone 5

**Comparing the Samsung S4 Mini and iPhone 5: A Hands-On Analysis**

In this article, we'll delve into the key differences between two popular smartphones, the Samsung S4 Mini and the Apple iPhone 5. Both devices have been touted as flagship models in their respective markets, but which one comes out on top? In this analysis, we'll explore the features, specifications, and overall value proposition of each device to help you make an informed decision.

**Display and Camera**

One of the most notable differences between the two devices is their display resolution. The Samsung S4 Mini boasts a 4-inch HD display with a resolution of 720p, while the iPhone 5 has a 4-inch LCD display also with a resolution of 720p. However, it's worth noting that the S4 Mini's display is more vibrant and color-accurate than the iPhone 5's, making it ideal for watching videos or browsing the web.

The camera department is another area where the two devices differ significantly. The Samsung S4 Mini features a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, which may seem like a low-resolution sensor compared to some of its contemporaries. However, the iPhone 5's camera is also not without its flaws, with a resolution of only 8 megapixels on the rear side and no optical zoom or image stabilization.

**Connectivity**

When it comes to connectivity, both devices have their strengths and weaknesses. The Samsung S4 Mini features an IR blaster and NFC capabilities, making it ideal for controlling your TV and other smart home devices, as well as enabling mobile payments like Samsung Pay. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 lacks these features altogether.

**Operating System**

Another key difference between the two devices is their operating system. The Samsung S4 Mini runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, while the iPhone 5 is powered by iOS 6.1.3. While both operating systems have their own strengths and weaknesses, many users will prefer the flexibility and customization options offered by Android.

**New Features**

Both devices come with some new features that are worth mentioning. The Samsung S4 Mini's Air View and Air Gestures feature allows for more intuitive interaction with the device, while also providing a more premium user experience. These features were originally introduced on the S4, but have been brought down to the smaller S4 Mini model.

**Battery Life**

When it comes to battery life, both devices have their own strengths and weaknesses. The Samsung S4 Mini has a removable battery with a capacity of 1900 milliamps, making it ideal for users who want to carry around spare batteries or replace them altogether. In contrast, the iPhone 5's battery is non-removable and has a capacity of only 1440 milliamps.

**Price**

Finally, when it comes to price, both devices are competitive in their respective markets. The Samsung S4 Mini is expected to be priced between £300-£330, while the iPhone 5 will cost around $649 for its SIM-free, unlocked version. However, as we know, Apple often drops prices of older models when new ones are released, so it's possible that the iPhone 5 will become cheaper in the future.

**Conclusion**

So, which device is right for you? The Samsung S4 Mini offers a more compact design and lower price point than the iPhone 5, making it an attractive option for users who want a smaller smartphone without sacrificing too much performance. However, if you're invested in the Apple ecosystem and prefer the ease of use and seamless integration that comes with iOS, then the iPhone 5 may be the better choice.

Ultimately, the decision between these two devices will depend on your individual needs and preferences. We'll have to wait until we get our hands on the Samsung S4 Mini for a more in-depth review and comparison. Stay tuned!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up YouTube's a fear on super-safe TV and in this video i'll be comparing the specs of the samsung galaxy s4 mini to the iPhone 5 I've had a few requests for this comparison and I think the main reason behind it is the sizes of these devices traditionally speaking the current market right now at the iPhone 5 whenever you're comparing it to a flagship Android smartphone you know such as the s4 or the HTC One for instance you'll notice that the biggest physical difference is the size the Android flag shirts tend to go for the 4.7 to 5 inch screen a form factor where the iPhone 5 is at that more compact size now for many people looking for a compact device the size of the device it can be the deciding factor in itself and Samsung have clearly seen that and it last year they introduced the s3 mini which was a cut-down version of the s3 but there's also lots of cut-down in terms of spec as well however the s4 mini does pack some decent spec and Samsung are clearly aiming for that iPhone market maybe somebody who's looking to go on to Android from the iPhone however once something a bit more compact then the larger device is out there so let's put these two devices head-to-head and look at the key differences in terms of specs and hopefully that I'll give you guys a bit of a better idea of the differences between these two so now looking initially at the dimensions the actual dimensions of both of these devices the iPhone 5 is a smaller now in terms of hype just a fraction as 0.8 millimeters so nothing major there 2.7 millimeters in a width so it is a slightly smaller in terms of width and it's a 1.3 millimeters thinner than the s4 mini now although the s4 mini is a slightly larger it does pack a larger screen a 4.3 inch screen whereas the iPhone 5 has a 4-inch screen so you've got a little bit of a larger screen in roughly about the same size you've just got a few millimeters here and there so I think both device is still going to fit quite nicely in the hand and I'm going to be quite comfortable for one-handed usage now the resolution of the screens neither of these have a 720p HD display they're both below that the iPhone 5 has a 1 1 3 6 by 640 pixel resolution whereas the s4 mini 960 by 540 pixels so you've got a smaller resolution on the s4 terms of pixels per inch a PPI pixel density you've got 256 a PPI on the s4 mini where the iPhone 5 has a 326 PPI so generally speaking images and text are going to look that little bit sharper a little bit more crisp on the iPhone 5 compared to the s4 mini weight-wise the iPhone 5 112 grams whereas the s4 mini 107 grams so is 5 grams lighter probably not hugely noticeable but it is a lighter device than the iPhone 5 now in terms of building design the iPhone 5 does have that aluminium and glass body so it's a little bit more premium feeling I would say the s4 mini has that polycarbonate plastic casing as a does the s4 original now again this is a debatable some people don't really care about the build of the device because they use in a case anyway some people do like that premium feel so the iPhone 5 does have a bit more of that premium feel in terms of the versions available you've got a white frost and the black mist versions in the samsung galaxy s4 mini version whereas the iPhone 5 you've got the white and silver version as well as the black and slate version so a similar black whiter sort of options are available on both of these sides now let's look at what's inside these devices the iPhone 5 has a Apple a6 do call 1.2 gigahertz processor whereas the s4 mini has a dual-core 1.7 gigahertz processor so although these are both of you core the s4 mini does have a higher clock speed in terms of the processor in terms of the performance that that would have to be seen hands on in benchmarks etc so you know we can't really mention too much about that but the clock speed is high on the s4 mini now in terms of run the iPhone 5 has one gigabyte across the board and a 4G LTE as well across the board the s4 mini you've got some different versions here the default version is going to be the 1.5 gigabyte version and that's going to be 3G only the 2 gigabyte ram version is the 4G LTE version so you've got different options here you've also got a dual SIM a 3G version as well on the s4 mini so a litte bit of variety here and the RAM is really important when it comes to multitasking etc you know running the quite a few apps at the same time so that's quite nice on the s4 that you've got lots of different options here in terms of the internal memory versions in the iPhone 5 you've got the 16 32 and 64 gigabyte variants so depending on what you want to go for you can pay that a little bit more and you can go for a higher storage device the s4 mini has the 8 gigabyte version 4 for now anyway they have not mentioned a 16 gigabyte version the s3 mini did have a 16 gigabyte version but they've only mentioned an 8 gig version for now however the s4 mini does have expandable storage so up to 64 gigabytes via a micro SD card slot the iPhone 5 as with the other Apple devices does not have expandable memory so you're going to be stuck with the storage option that you go for now looking at the cameras both have 8 megapixel cameras a rear-facing cameras that are capable of filming 1080p HD now they're going to be different in their different aspects I've done an s4 original vs. iPhone 5 camera comparison side-by-side so you can go ahead and check that out however the s4 mini still to be seen what the image quality will be like so it's going to be interesting to see comparisons when the device is in hand in terms of the front-facing camera this is going to be good for video holding etc the iPhone 5 a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera at 720p so that's going to give you 720p HD recording whereas the s4 mini has a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera so high megapixels here so you're gonna get a high resolution and it is also 720p I believe they're not being specific in terms of the resolution of video with the front-facing camera but I would expect it to be 720p HD in terms of connectivity the s4 mini it does have an IR blaster as well as NFC so the IR blaster is going to be really great for controlling your TV etc the iPhone 5 does not have any of these it doesn't even have NFC NFC again I'm not sure how much is used currently but it's going to be good for things like sbeam a few of these features that come with the s4 mini operating system now this is a debatable obviously I'm going to go too much into it but the iPhone 5 it does have iOS 6.1.3 I believe the current version is so you're gonna get the latest version of the Apple iOS system on their s4 mini Android jelly bean of 4.2.2 so the latest version of jelly bean and that's going to have the touch with UI so again it is debatable because it does come down to personal I have done lots of videos highlighting the advantages of one operating system over another I'm not going to go into all of these right now each of them have their respective advantages and disadvantages however something to mention some of the new features that have come down from the s4 now these features the reason why I'm mentioning them is because they are not available on many other devices you've got air view and air gestures on the s4 mini so these are some new features that were on the s4 and they have been brought down to the s4 mini as well so it's quite interesting to see some of these new sort of funky features on here which will let you interact with the device in different ways now looking at the batteries that the iPhone 5 has a 1440 milliamp battery whereas the s4 mini has a 1900 milliamp battery so you've got a high-capacity battery on that the s4 mini usage will depend the s4 mini battery is also removable so you do you can carry around a spare battery for instance or you can replace it all together the iPhone 5 it does not have a removal battery so you've got what's in there as I mentioned the usage will depend abut the s4 mini does have a high-capacity battery now finally looking at price the iPhone 5 the 16 gigabyte version is currently available for 529 pounds here in the UK or in the US you're looking at around about six hundred and forty nine dollars and this is for these SIM free unlocked versions the s4 mini did not confirm specific prices but the 8 gig version you'll be expecting somewhere around 300 to 330 pounds I believe and in the u.s. roughly about the 400 to 450 dollar mark and expected a release date is a July 2013 so the s4 mini is no doubt is going to be cheaper than the iPhone 5 and what they tend to do is when the next version of the iPhone does come out the previous iPhone model does drop in price so when we get the 5s or the iPhone 6 whichever is going to be the next device you will see a slight drop in the iPhone 5 price as well and that will be roughly about 450 pounds if we base it on Apple's current pricing structure as they drop a price of devices when new ones are released so even when the latest version of the iPhone does come out under the iPhone 5 does drop in price the s4 mini is still going to be cheaper than the iPhone 5 so that's another thing to bear in mind so those were the key differences between these two devices personally I think the s4 mini they have done a good job to bring more of a compact device and it is a slide cheaper as well so that's another thing to bear in mind and those were the key differences in terms of space what do you think of the differences which one you go for would you go for the s4 mini or do you go for the iPhone 5 do drop your comment below and let me know your thoughts when we do get the s4 mini in for review then we'll do hands-on comparisons etc so do stay tuned for that I hope you enjoyed this video and found it useful if you did please please do
