Hello everyone and welcome to another video on what is this very warm and very humid English summer's day I never thought I would be saying that sentence um so anyway in this one I wanted to talk to you about the Core 2 quad processors and more specifically the Intel core2 quad q8200 and whether or not you should still buy something like this to put in a gaming PC to run today's games.
The reason I wanted to make a video about this particular processor is because online you can get these for a very very good price at about the $20 mark or about 12 to 15 here in the UK which I really think is a very good bargain considering the performance that this thing still has left in it. Now, the q8200 was released in the third quarter of 2008, it's a quad core processor clocked at 2.33 GHz and it had an initial release price of $179 so back in our day I used to see this sort of processor floating around in builds all the time and to be honest that's because it was a very good choice.
So, I wanted to find out whether or not it still is. Let's get into some gameplay tests. The test system I'm using here is the q8200 along with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and the GTX 750 TR. I tested all of the following games with 1080p resolution and I will give you the settings individually for each game.
First up we have Fallout 4 which in 1080P ran on the medium settings preset with an average of 36 frames per second over a 2-hour gameplay period. The frames did drop to about 28 perhaps a little bit lower in some more built-up areas where there was a lot of action going on and they actually dropped to about 50 in less built up areas such as just wandering through the wasteland and places like that. So overall it was a very playable and enjoyable experience.
Next up we have Grand Theft Auto 5 which ran at normal settings with an average of 37 frames per second over another 2-hour gameplay period. This was actually very playable as well with frames dropping to the low 30s and even getting up to the low 40s in some areas overall making for a very very very enjoyable gameplay experience.
Finally, this is Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 which ran with high settings which is basically the game's maximum settings with 1080p at 60 frames per second average. I believe that this game is capped at 60 frames per second so we didn't really see anything above that maybe the odd 6162 whereby slightly goes over the cap but then comes straight back down to run at a nice solid average. The game did drop a couple of frames but only to about 58 or 59 and this really wasn't noticeable especially with the fast-paced gameplay.
So, there you guys have it. These tests have just gone to show that the Intel Core 2 quad q8200 is still up to running modern-day games with fairly decent settings and frame rates. Whilst I wouldn't entirely recommend going out and buying one of these it's nice to know that it still has what it takes to run a few of your favorite games and if you were considering it or you were on a tight budget this really isn't a bad choice at all.
So, if you're looking for a great starting point in any budget PC build and you want to go with slightly older hardware then the q8200 is definitely worth considering. You can probably pick up a nice cheap desktop for about $100 on eBay and then go out and buy a graphics card and add that yourself which would then make for a nice quick and easy and cheap budget gaming system. Just try and make sure that the motherboard is compatible with your chosen graphics card and I would highly recommend trying to find a system that had a motherboard capable of supporting or already including DDR3 RAM.
Overall, it's been a pleasure creating this video and I hope you've enjoyed watching it as much as I have made it. Thank you so much for watching leave a like leave a comment and I'll try to get back to every single one of you and I will see you all again very soon.

can say to you go out and buy one of these obviously because of the Dead 775 socket but it would make for a great starting point in any budget PC build should you wish to go with slightly older
