Sync 3 in a Lincoln

What's Up Guys: A First Look at SYNC 3 in Lincoln

Mike here, and welcome back to my channel, the Detroit Borg. Today, I'm excited to share with you my first impressions of SYNC 3 in a Lincoln MKC. The MKC, along with the Escape and Fiesta, is one of the first models to feature this latest technology from Ford.

SYNC 3: A Familiar Technology with a Unique Twist

As we all know, SYNC 3 is essentially the same technology as its predecessor, but with some notable differences. The display hardware and general layout are identical, providing a similar user experience that you'd expect from any SYNC-equipped vehicle. However, Lincoln has taken some creative liberties to make it unique to their brand.

The first thing I noticed was the change in touch screen technology - instead of resistive touchscreens, we now have capacitive touchscreens with multi-touch capabilities. This means you can swipe across the screen with ease, and the overall system feels much smoother and quicker to use.

The Layout: Icons Along the Bottom

One of the defining features of SYNC 3 is its layout, which consists of icons along the bottom of the display. These icons allow you to jump to various functions such as settings, climate, phone, and media with just a few taps. The Lincoln MKC's SYNC 3 has a darker theme, but also incorporates elements of a flatter design - no more dimensional buttons for us!

Personally, I prefer this new design language over its predecessor. Gone are the days of raised buttons; instead, we have sleeker, lower-profile designs that fit perfectly within the cabin.

The Home Screen: A Familiar Experience

Just like my previous SYNC-equipped vehicles, the Lincoln MKC's home screen is easily accessible via a button in the upper left corner. When you tap this icon, it illuminates in orange or amber to let you know it's active. The live tiles on this screen are similar to those found in my Ford Touch cars - you can interact with them by tapping on them, and they'll bring up relevant information or allow you to perform specific actions.

Temperature and Clock Functions

One feature that caught my attention was the ability to tap on the temperature icon to jump straight into climate settings. Similarly, tapping on the clock allows you to adjust it with ease. These minor differences may seem insignificant, but they demonstrate how SYNC 3 is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive.

Features Not Available at Launch

While SYNC 3 in the Lincoln MKC offers a solid foundation for this technology, there are some features that won't be available right away. Features like Android Auto and CarPlay will arrive in the future as updates. However, don't worry; once they're implemented, we can expect a seamless integration with your smartphone.

Two New Features to SYNC 3

I did find two new features that I think are particularly interesting, though: auto updating and auto dimming. The former allows you to connect to your Wi-Fi network at home and have the software on your car automatically updated - it's a great convenience feature!

The latter feature is also noteworthy: the display will adapt its brightness based on ambient light conditions. This not only improves visibility but also reduces eye strain during long drives.

In Conclusion...

That's my initial impression of SYNC 3 in the Lincoln MKC. As I spend more time with this system, I'll be sure to share further insights and explore its many features in depth.
