iOS 17 Beta 5 is OUT - GOOD NEWS!

Using iOS 17 Developer Beta 5: A Deep Dive Review

When I launched the music application on my device running iOS 17 developer beta 4, I was surprised to see a brand new splash screen. The same cannot be said for beta 5, which boasts an updated and improved design. In addition to this change, there have been several other notable updates to various features and applications within the operating system.

One of the most significant changes is in the widgets section. The calendar, reminders, and wallet application widgets all underwent a subtle but noticeable transformation. In beta 4, these widgets featured solid black backgrounds with minimal visual distinction between them. However, in beta 5, Apple has opted for a more subdued grayish tone that may appeal to some users. While I personally prefer the darker color scheme of beta 4, it's clear that Apple is attempting to modernize its overall aesthetic.

To further explore these changes, let's take a closer look at each widget individually. The calendar widgets, in particular, underwent a significant redesign. In beta 4, they appeared as completely black rectangles with minimal visual flair. In contrast, the latest beta 5 introduces a grayish tone that seems to permeate all of Apple's design elements. This change can be seen not only in the calendar widgets but also in other areas of the operating system. The reminders widget has also been updated to feature a more subdued color scheme, while the wallet application widgets now sport a grayish tone as well.

In addition to these visual changes, there have been several updates to FaceTime and its accompanying video effects. Studio Lighting, for example, has moved from being displayed at the top of the screen in beta 4 to being situated in the middle of the interface in beta 5. Furthermore, the glyphs used in the FaceTime menus have been tweaked slightly, resulting in a more refined overall experience. Portrait mode has also undergone some changes, with its position shifting from the middle of the screen to the top.

One aspect that I'm particularly pleased about is the improved animations that come with iOS 17 developer beta 5. The launch of applications, the transition through Spotlight, and even bringing down Control Center all feel noticeably smoother and more polished than in previous betas. This is a welcome change, as it makes navigating the operating system a pleasure.

In terms of reliability, I'm happy to report that I've encountered no issues with the keyboard up until this point. In fact, I've been impressed by how well it's performing, with none of the text input disappearing or other bugs manifesting themselves like they have in previous betas. This is definitely a positive development, as it suggests that Apple is continuing to iron out its operating system.

As we wait for the next beta and subsequent releases, one can only speculate about what changes will be made before the official final release of iOS 17. While the current schedule has Apple releasing new betas every week, including this latest iteration, it's likely that they'll skip at least one week before finally launching a Release Candidate (RC). This process typically unfolds as follows: a beta is released, followed by another beta the following week, with the pattern continuing until just before the official launch date. In most cases, this occurs in early September, although Apple may decide to adjust their schedule.

Assuming that the current trajectory holds true, we can anticipate the Release Candidate (RC) for iOS 17 sometime towards the end of August or early September. This will likely be followed by a final full release on September 18th, at which point the operating system will become available to the general public. As always, it's essential to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and schedules to ensure that you're among the first to experience all the new features and improvements that iOS 17 has to offer.

By taking a closer look at the changes made in iOS 17 developer beta 5, it's clear that Apple is dedicated to refining its operating system. While some users may prefer certain aspects of previous versions, these updates demonstrate Apple's commitment to delivering an overall more polished experience.

operating system and just for reference on the right this one's running beta 4 and this one's running the latest beta 5. now let's take a look at some of the latest changes and number one when I launched the music application I got this brand new splash screen in beta 5 and I also want to talk about the widgets because there's some changes happening here so let's go into the widget here the calendars the reminder widgets these have been changed here a little bit here so if we go into the calendar right here calendar and beta 4. hopefully the camera will do it justice but in beta 4 the widgets on the calendar will come completely dark and black as you can see right here on the left the latest beta 5 this one has sort of a grayish tone to them and this goes to all the widgets here for the calendar I prefer the one in beta 4 the darker solid black colors but Apple has definitely changed it in beta 5. now let's go into the actual reminders widget as well here because we can see the same changes happening here as well so once again completely black background here on the reminders widget which in the latest beta we have sort of a more grayish tone to the widget here as well and the last one I want to talk about is the wallet application widget here once again the widget on the right here is a lot darker completely black in comparison to the current beta which is sort of a grayish tone Apple continues to polish up the operating system then I want to talk about FaceTime and the FaceTime video effects because there's some changes happening here again Apple continues to polish the operating system here as we take a look here Studio Lighting in beta 4 is on the top in beta 5 it is in the middle and also the glyphs have been changed here a little bit as well so if we tap into the actual menus here for the studio lighting you see that we have some adjustments here being made with the latest beta also portrait mode in beta 4 it was in the middle and now it's on the top here again the glyphs have also been changed here if we go into the menus we see some adjustments here as well we see new glyphs within the actual menus here and just refinements overall for FaceTime uh for Facetime video effects here as well now one thing I also want to mention is that the animations in the latest beta 5 although they remain the same when launching applications going through Spotlight bringing down control center just feel a lot smoother and that's part of the good news that I wanted to share with you guys the animations the operating system after using it for about two hours approximately feels a lot snappier and one thing I do want to mention that will make a lot of you guys happy within the past two hours of using the software I have haven't encountered any issues with the keyboard in iOS 17 developer beta 5. I have an encounter the actual text input disappear as I was with previous betas or the keyboard disappearing none of that is happening here with beta 5 so I'm happy to report finally we get some smoother animations and it looks like some of the bugs will continue to disappear as Apple continues releasing new betas now of course stay tuned for my follow-up video where I talk about the battery any additional new features so make sure to subscribe for that one but now let's go ahead and talk about when can we expect the next beta and the official final release for iOS 17. so now that it appears that apple is switching to releasing new betas every week or to a weekly release schedule if history is any indication once again the next beta should be available next week on the week of the 14th of August and then we see another beta on the 22nd and so on until we see the official release now in terms of official release I'm thinking September 18th is when we'll see iOS 17 the official final version released to everyone worldwide again if you're looking for the next beta that will most likely happen every week until the last week of August once apple is ready to launch what they do is they skip a week and then they do the RC what is the release candidate so we'll see beta 5 today beta 6 next week beta 7 the following the last week of August we may not see anything and then on the first full week of September we see the RC the release candidate and then following two weeks later maybe September the 18th we see the official final release for iOS 17 to the general public and
