The Joy of Driving a VW Golf R: A Family Car with a Twist
As I sat behind the wheel of this impressive machine, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and enthusiasm. The small tunnel right here led me to open the sunroof, letting in a burst of fresh air and sunlight, which illuminated the interior of the car. The sound was music to my ears - a pleasant blend of burbles and bangs that hinted at the car's capabilities.
I decided to turn off start/stop and traction control, eager to experience the thrill of driving this powerful vehicle. As I pressed the accelerator, the car sprang to life, its engine purring smoothly as it devoured the distance with ease. The exhaust note was like a symphony, with each shift providing a satisfying "bang" that left me grinning from ear to ear.
One feature that particularly caught my attention was the launch control system. I couldn't resist the urge to activate it and see what kind of performance this car had in store for me. With the boost building up rapidly, I pressed the accelerator harder, feeling a surge of power as the car accelerated with incredible speed and agility. The result? A staggering 4.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h - a blistering time that left me speechless.
But what really impressed me was the acceleration from 0-200 km/h. When compared to other cars in its class, this VW Golf R proved itself to be one of the quickest, with an impressive two-second gap over some of its competitors. I attribute this to the car's lightweight design and agile handling, which made it a joy to drive on both straight roads and twisty corners.
As I continued driving, I noticed that the engine had a certain "feeling" to it - a refinement and suppleness that I didn't experience with other engines in similar cars. The 8-speed gearbox, although not the newest or most advanced, seemed to have been tuned to perfection by VW engineers. And then there was the exhaust note - a low, throaty rumble that added to the car's overall sense of character and personality.
One criticism I had about this car was its relatively predictable nature. The DSG gearbox, while capable and efficient, sometimes felt too eager to shift gears, making it difficult to control the car's acceleration. However, I found this trait to be more a blessing in disguise - after all, who doesn't love the thrill of a gear-changing machine that seems to have a mind of its own?
As we took the Autobahn for a spin, I was struck by the Golf R's ability to perform well under various driving conditions. Whether cruising at moderate speeds or accelerating hard on the straights, this car handled with ease and finesse. And when exiting corners, it demonstrated a surprising level of agility and sportiness - qualities that were unexpected from a family crossover like the Golf.
My only remaining criticism was the lack of sense of humor in this car's design. While I appreciated its performance capabilities, I couldn't help but feel that the Golf R lacked the whimsy and playfulness that I've come to expect from other VW models. Perhaps it was just a minor quibble, but one that I hoped VW would address in future iterations.
In conclusion, my time behind the wheel of this incredible car left me with a lasting impression - an appreciation for its capabilities, refinement, and sheer fun factor. Whether you're a seasoned driving enthusiast or just looking for a family-friendly vehicle with a twist, the VW Golf R is definitely worth considering.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enJesus that's cheap perforated holes I think I'm going to go for a race it always wants to do what it wants to do go score some bad points within the crap of a jigsaw what's up ladies and gentlemen welcome to this POV review by outlet opinel my name is Martin and today I'm showing you all around the new VW T rock r yes yes there's finally a superhot version of this friendly family car and it's got quite a big mouth because this one is equipped with the optional Akrapovic exhaust and it's quite loud you wouldn't expect a factory car to be this loud especially considering current developments because all the performance cars are getting software in terms of sound and this one yeah this is this is quite fun to see so what is it well it's a VW R and that should be something exciting so is it exciting to look at well we've got 19-inch our wheels which are well pretty good to look at actually they are like a titanium color and we have the performance brakes on here so they're a bit bigger and the brake performance of these brakes is actually really really good these are optional on a go far but all the Tirek are they come as standard because it's about a hundred kilos heavier so I think Volkswagen wanted people to have these brakes because of the weight so yeah I do think it really stands out because of the rims that huge 19-inch rim and that really in your face brake system by VW R what else do we have well we've got a VW R batch right there and we've got a red color which i think is pretty funky for this funky family car there is a special blue for this car for the are the tirĂ³ car and you can only get it on the R so that's pretty cool to have that color as well because you if you have that color they know it's an R and with day I mean the people on the streets so this I think is a very good angle for the PWT rock R because from the back with the court exhaust the black out the blacked-out diffuser it looks quite muscly and it's still a like a funky family car and it's a mix of the two it's not as serious looking as a VW Golf R but it has some of that sportiness and I really like that and that Akrapovic exhaust as I said it really adds to the sound but I think it's it also adds to the looks of the car because it's got quite large exhaust tips and they look really really cool it's a titanium exhaust and they have these perforated holes in the end tip which I really really like nice little a crap of each logo over there VW R badge right there and I'm really curious what you guys think of the looks of this car you could rate it in the top right corner for one two five let me know let's check out the engine I always do that twice because you used to drive a VW and then you'll always do that where is it right there yeah what it doesn't have a gas power Jesus that's cheap come on all right let's ignore that we go to a two liter TSI engine with a our bets on there and we've seen many cars with this engine Gulf are out es 3 out esq two Cupra I take I said Leon Cupra the new crew prefer Montano model whatever it's called what else do we have several other VW models like the RTO and the list goes on and on and on we've always said it's not the most engaging engine with 300 horsepower and 400 Newton meters but with the a crap of its exhaust it kind of comes to life it's a great addition for this engine but it's a really good engine it never like drops down in power it pulls all the way through it builds up really early and that's what you want when you have like a crossover performance car yes that's the thing nowadays because as I said we have the Audi s q2 the Cupra I take we have the VW t rock or we have a countryman jcw there's a new small Cupra model crossover coming and they all have kind of the same recipe 2-liter turbo engine with about 300 horsepower so today I'm going to find out where this sits in that list so on the interior we kind of have a VW Golf Mark seven interior it's not great I have to say it's quite plasticky it does look well-built but the materials aren't really all that nice the infotainment system it's okay it's also a bit old and you know that the mark eight is coming up and it looks so much better than this Jen that's a that's a big downside to the tea Rock I think so we got a four motion badge right there because this model has 4motion all-wheel drive with a Haldex clutch in the middle so it's it has four-wheel drive when the front wheels lose traction okay so let's get driving and let's choose a driving mode I think I'm going to go for a race then the Akrapovic exhaust opens up and you get all the nice sounds and yeah that's it okay we have a small tunnel right here let's open that sunroof and let's check out this sound okay could you turn off start/stop and traction control and let's give it some it's got like a few nice burbles and little bangs and I think that's a really fun feature for like a family car I can really imagine dropping off your kids at school and then being the fun dad and do some pops and then you have the coolest kids in school and you were the coolest dad ever I think I would have liked my dad to have done that when I was in elementary so yeah go score some bad points within the crap of it's exhaust so we've got a dual clutch DSG unit I'm going to close this up because I've went noise it's not the sharpest in a VW Golf R it's more snappy it's more it's laggy ER in this one I don't know why that is maybe because of the weight maybe they've done that on purpose and they wanted this one to be just a little softer experience wise yeah we have a small straight over here and let's do a launch control this should do four point eight seconds to 100 that's super quick build up the boost here we go and that's 100 I've done some acceleration runs earlier and it actually does the 4.6 that's quite insane go check out that video in the top right corner because that's quick but it's got no problem putting all that power down 4.6 and that was just like two hours ago and as you can see it it's not dry today so yeah that's really really good that for motion does the trick because man 4.6 in like a family crossover that's that's that's insane so what happens after 100kph well let's check that out on the Autobahn hey we're at the Altima that's a coinkidink oh yeah oh you can really feel the VW our heritage when you exit a corner it really it's a lot sporty-er than you might think when you look at it it's a lot more dynamic it's also a lot faster than you think because if you pull up at a traffic light in this and you sit next to like let's say a VW Golf GTI you wouldn't think this would be faster I think you gonna have some jewels dropping at the traffic lights and that's what I like about this car it's got a sense of humor that I'm not used to from VW with especially within a crevice exhaust that makes it so of logical actually and that makes it cool again that's what I like about cars when they do unpredictable things and that's the biggest criticism I have with the VW Golf R it doesn't have a sense of humor and it's too predictable this one though look at that it sits performing really really well it's actually like a second faster from 100 to 200 when you compare it to a cooperate acre or an outy squ when you compare it to the mini their countrymen jcw it's really two seconds faster from 100 to 200 and that's because it's just a lot lighter and you really notice it driving it it's really quite nimble and I like that I like nimbleness so that was the top speed of 250 kilometers an hour and it it's quite quick I would say you can read the performance in the top right corner I'm going to give you a tour cool let's do 6 year 4/5 from 100kph here we go I hate this about a DSG it always wants to do what it wants to do but it never listens to what I want to do all bears to kick down again okay I'm just going to shift up okay from 130 in sixth here we go we're at three and a half thousand rpm and you can really feel the torque building we're now at beak torque I'd say and you can really feel that it moves I also like this engine better than the 2-liter turbo in the minis it just feels a lot more supple the many engines and especially that Aysen 8-speed gearbox it just doesn't feel very meaty very sporty and this really is much more refined even though it's a much older engine I mean this unit the EAA a8 has been out for a lot of years but VW has done a great job with this engine and I'm really curious what they will do with the next more generation okay so that was it for today I hope you enjoyed this review if you want to check out the VW Golf R a cup of each review click right here and if you want to check out the complete POV
