2012 Retina Display MacBook Pro and New MacBook Airs!

The New Macbook Pros: A Comprehensive Review

The new Macbook Pros are finally here, and they're packed with exciting features that are sure to please even the most discerning tech enthusiasts. One of the first things you'll notice about these machines is the removal of certain ports. Gone are the days of optical drives, FireWire, and Ethernet connectors, replaced instead by a pair of Thunderbolt ports, USB 3.0, and HDMI out.

This may come as no surprise to many users, who have been predicting the demise of these older technologies in favor of newer, faster alternatives. The addition of Thunderbolt ports, in particular, should be music to the ears of anyone looking to upgrade their Mac's connectivity options. And with USB 3.0 and HDMI out included, you'll be able to connect your Mac to a wide range of devices, from external hard drives to HDTVs.

But what about performance? The new Macbook Pros are indeed fast, thanks to the latest Ivybridge processors. Both models will come equipped with quad-core Intel Core i5 or i7 CPUs, making them well-suited for demanding tasks like video editing and programming. And with 8GB or 16GB of RAM available, you'll be able to tackle even the most memory-intensive projects.

Storage is also a major focus in these new machines, with SSD storage options starting at 256GB and going all the way up to 1TB. Unfortunately, there will be no traditional hard drives included in the mix, which may be a disappointment for some users who prefer the flexibility and reliability of spinning disk storage.

The graphics situation is also interesting, with the new Macbook Pros powered by the Nvidia GeForce GT650M. While this may not be as powerful as some of the more high-end dedicated graphics cards out there, it should still provide plenty of oomph for most users' needs.

So how much will these new machines cost? The 15.4-inch Retina model will start at $2,200, which is certainly a premium price point. However, when you factor in the quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD, it's hard to argue with the value proposition.

For those looking for something a bit more affordable, there are still some options available. The current generation of Macbook Pros will continue to be sold, starting at $1,200 for the 13-inch model. However, these machines may not have all the bells and whistles of their new counterparts – you'll get a Core i5 processor with Intel HD 4000 graphics instead of the latest Ivybridge processor.

The MacBook Air is also getting an update, with both 11-inch and 13-inch models available starting at $1,000. The 11-inch model will start at this price point, with a slightly lower spec Core i5 and 4GB of RAM. The 13-inch model starts at $1,200, with a Core i5 processor and 128GB SSD.

In terms of the update schedule, it's worth noting that all of these new machines will get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion next month. This is in addition to any existing operating system updates you may be due for.

Ultimately, the decision on which Macbook Pro or MacBook Air model to choose will depend on your individual needs and budget. If you're looking for a powerful machine with plenty of storage and graphics oomph, the new 15.4-inch Retina model is certainly worth considering. However, if you're on a tighter budget, there are still some great options available in the current generation lineup.

For those who want to get their hands on one of these machines as soon as possible, rest assured that they'll be shipping today and will come with all the latest features and software updates.
