**The Dirty Truth About Corporate America**

In today's corporate world, it seems like companies are more focused on making money than on doing what's right by their customers and employees. Take TurboTax, for example. The company that promised to make tax preparation easier has been found to be ripping off its customers in the process.

Get this - my mortgage deduction is something I have to worry about every year. I'm going to have to do some things, like camera equipment from my office, because it's not allowed by the IRS. And then I get a postcard when tax time comes around and says we think you owe us this much if you agree to pay. It's like they're taking advantage of people who just want to file their taxes easily. But in America, getting people to pay their taxes is hard enough as it is.

And don't even get me started on TurboTax. The company has been found to be lobbying the government for years, which should raise some red flags. The fact that they're making so much money off of people's tax preparation needs shouldn't come as a surprise. But what's really interesting is how they've managed to get away with it for so long.

It all started when Frontier Communications bought Spectrum, a company that was leaving the LA area. When this happened, customers were getting calls after calls on their radio show, complaining about the awful service they were receiving. But did anyone do anything about it? No, until Corey Doctorow spoke out against Frontier's underpowered and underperforming physical plant.

The FTC finally stepped in and required Frontier to stop lying to its customers and charging them for high-speed internet that they weren't actually getting. But the damage was already done. And to make matters worse, Frontier had to pay $8.5 million to California for investigation and litigation costs. But what really gets me is that only 250,000 of the affected customers are going to get a check for $25 each.

This settlement seems like a slap on the wrist to me. The fact that whoever negotiated this deal should be ashamed of themselves. And as for Frontier, they're still making money off of their customers' desperation. They've even gone so far as to charge people to cancel their service, which is unheard of in America.

But here's the thing: it's not just TurboTax and Frontier that are doing this. There are plenty of other companies out there that are taking advantage of their customers in some way or another. And until we hold them accountable, things are never going to change.

So what can be done about it? Well, for starters, companies like TurboTax need to be held accountable for their actions. They should have to come on TV and apologize for lying to their customers. They should have to pay restitution to the people they've hurt. And maybe, just maybe, we'll start to see some real change in this industry.

But until then, we're stuck with companies that are more focused on making money than on doing what's right. And that's a sad state of affairs indeed.

every year this one i do my mom's taxes she's 89 so her taxes are very simple every year i select free i want the free turbo tax i end up paying 89 every year no matter what 100 the same this is this is our broadest point of agreement on the panel which i'm very excited about because they deserve they deserve the ire the combined higher for the three of us but is 141 million enough right now do more do more make it make it make it hurt because what happened i'm not making a billion because what happens is these companies say well it's cost doing business we made 800 million i'll give you california but it's again it's a slap on the wrist frontier has to pay eight and a half million dollars to california for investigation and litigation costs and what do they give customers who were harmed 250 000 will be distributed to frontier customers you're going to get a check for a buck 25. whoever negotiated that settlement needs to be that's that is professional malfeasance right there's such 8 and a half million to california 250 000 to the consumers what a joke no no no that whoever prosecuted that case for the government they need to go find another line of work and they probably
