iPhone SE (2020) - 5 Months Later!

The iPhone SE: A Solid Smartphone that Surpassed Hype

One of the biggest factors that people consider when buying a new phone is battery life. The iPhone SE, however, has proven to be a surprise in this department. While some may think that using an older chip like the A11 found in the iPhone 8 would lead to poor battery life, the reality is quite different. The A13 Bionic chip inside the iPhone SE saves the day by being more power efficient than its predecessor. This means that the iPhone SE can get through about 50-75% of a user's day on a single charge after charging overnight, which is pretty good for many users.

It's worth noting that the author of this article does not use their iPhone SE as much as they do other phones, simply because they prefer watching media on their iPad Pro or computer. They do use their phone more for critical tasks like texting and making phone calls, taking pictures, and videos, rather than consuming media. This is a good example of how the battery life of the iPhone SE can be suitable for many users who don't need to consume as much content as they would on a larger phone.

Another advantage of the iPhone SE is its value for money. The phone's price point of $400 is hard to beat, especially considering that it will receive several years of software support thanks to the A13 chip inside. This means that users can expect their iPhone SE to stay up-to-date with the latest features and security patches for a long time. Additionally, cases and screen protectors for the iPhone SE are widely available and relatively inexpensive, as they have the same design as the iPhone 8.

In terms of performance, the iPhone SE is also a solid choice. The A13 Bionic chip provides a boost in processing power that outperforms many phones in its price range. This makes it an excellent option for gaming and other demanding tasks. While some users may be disappointed by the lack of a larger display, those who prefer a smaller phone will appreciate the iPhone SE's compact size and user-friendly interface.

One potential drawback of the iPhone SE is that it has a home button, which may not appeal to all users. However, this is also a feature that sets it apart from other phones in its class. For some users, the convenience and accuracy of Touch ID may outweigh the benefits of Face ID, making the iPhone SE a good choice.

Overall, the iPhone SE is a solid smartphone that has proven itself to be a great value for many users. Its battery life, performance, and user-friendly interface make it an excellent option for those who want a reliable phone without breaking the bank. Whether you're upgrading from an older iPhone model or switching from a larger phone, the iPhone SE is definitely worth considering.

The Future of the iPhone SE

As we look to the future, it's likely that the iPhone SE will continue to be a popular choice among users. The A13 chip and Touch ID provide a unique combination of performance and convenience that may appeal to a wide range of users. Additionally, the phone's compact size and user-friendly interface make it an excellent option for those who want a reliable phone without sacrificing too much functionality.

For users who are considering purchasing an iPhone SE, there are several things to keep in mind. First and foremost, it's essential to consider your own needs and preferences when choosing a phone. If you're looking for a larger display or more advanced features like Face ID, the iPhone SE may not be the best choice for you. However, if you prioritize battery life, performance, and value for money, the iPhone SE is definitely worth considering.

In fact, some users have already made the switch from bigger phones to the iPhone SE. There are many stories of people selling their larger iPhones or iPads to upgrade to the smaller phone, often due to its compact size and user-friendly interface. Whether you're upgrading from an older model or switching to a new device entirely, the iPhone SE is definitely worth considering.

By now, it's clear that the iPhone SE is a solid smartphone that has proven itself to be a great value for many users. Its battery life, performance, and user-friendly interface make it an excellent option for those who want a reliable phone without breaking the bank. As we look to the future, it's likely that the iPhone SE will continue to be a popular choice among users.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is brandon and the 2020 iphone se was one of the most hyped iphones ever and now that i've been using it for about five months i wanted to give you guys my full long-term review and why i think it's still an excellent purchase for a good amount of people all right so let's go ahead and start off with the main reason that people either want to buy this phone or won't even consider buying it in the first place and that is the design and the display so the iphone sc has a glass front and a glass back with an aluminum frame and of course it comes in this beautiful white color here along with a product red and a black my personal favorite is the white i just think it looks really clean and really nice we do also have that centered apple over here which we saw with the iphone 11 11 pro and 11 pro max which is really nice and this iphone is just the perfect size for your pocket so if you've used a bigger phone like a plus size or a mac size phone like we have the 10s max here you would know how annoying it could be in the pocket sometimes and for some people especially women sometimes these bigger phones wouldn't even fit fully in the pocket but you will not have that issue with the iphone se because it's so compact and fits very well and not just in your hand but also in your pockets and it took me a couple of months to really start appreciating this small form factor in the pockets especially when wearing like basketball shorts and things like that it doesn't bulge out as much and doesn't you know move around in your pocket as much as some of the bigger phones out there which is really nice but of course the biggest make or break design feature on the iphone se is going to be the home button so the iphone se is one of the very few phones with a home button that i still recommend here in 2020 where the market is just dominated by phones with no buttons at all and just like the iphone 8 and 8 plus the iphone se has a software-based home button so it's not a mechanical it's not a physical home button that's going to get sticky and possibly break later on down the road like we used to see a lot with the iphone 5 5s and even the 6 and 6s however i must say that the haptics on the iphone se do seem a little bit weaker than any of the other higher end iphones both with the haptic feedback and also with like vibrations from phone calls and notifications now of course having that home button is also going to lead to the whole touch id versus face id debate you know some people are going to prefer a fingerprint to unlock their phone while others are going to prefer facial recognition to unlock their phone now me personally i do prefer face id over touch id just simply because it's more secure and it's quicker to unlock for my specific use cases on a daily basis however you know with everyone wearing face masks now and some people also just prefer to unlock their phone while pulling it out of their pocket instead of having to you know pull it up to their face and scan their face i can see why a lot of people especially right now would prefer touch id and a home button on their phone i can't tell you the amount of times i've had to take down my mask and then scan my face and it's really annoying and very inconvenient when i'm like in a store or something like that and i need to have my mask on so that is one use case where i found myself actually using the iphone sc when i go out to stores and stuff now because of the mask so that's another reason i'm bringing you guys this video is because i've been using this phone a lot recently because of the whole pandemic but of course it's not just a good phone for the pandemic it's a great phone outside of these times as well but anyways moving on to other aspects of the design we also do not have a headphone jack here on the 2020 iphone se which is ideal for me since all of my headphones are wireless at this point you know i have like the airpods and i have over-ear wireless headphones and things like that but some of course will always find this to be a con some people do like having their studio headphones you know being able to plug into their iphone and listen to music but me personally i find it actually a good thing that there's no headphone jack on this iphone se and overall we just get a light easy to use phone that's also ip67 rated for dust and water resistance which is always nice i've used this phone at a pool i've never taken it to the beach yet but it has been around a pool and i've had no issues whatsoever with it i've never submerged it into water but it has gotten wet and it holds up just fine and i should also mention that the iphone se is just so easy to use with one hand which really comes in handy when you hold your phone at weird angles like me personally at night when i'm in bed and i'm laying on my side it's much harder to use my iphone 11 pro max over here because it's so massive but with the iphone sc it's just simple and effortless i just found that you don't have to work as much hand magic as what i like to call it to reach all the corners of the phone which is a relief when you're so used to using much larger iphones it's really nice to be able to touch you know the corners without having to perform gymnastics with your fingers now as for the display we have a 4.7 inch lcd display with a resolution of 1334 by 750 and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch and while the display isn't really anything to write home about and it's not really going to wow people it's passable and it's good for the price of this phone you can even watch videos on youtube and 4k now now of course this is not a 4k display but you do see better bit rates and you do also see of course better picture quality in these videos so you can see there i'm on 2160p here on this video on the iphone se which is really cool we also get true tone on the iphone se which is really nice and it makes it feel a little bit more premium as well however the max brightness is a bit of a letdown on this se here especially for someone like me who lives in florida where the sun is always out and i'm always leaving the house so it's rated for 625 nits just like the iphone 11 so that's like the max brightness but for some reason it appears to be less bright than the iphone 11. like when i have them side by side the iphone se is less bright than the iphone 11. so that is one thing to keep in mind if you do live down south or somewhere where it's just always sunny and kind of hard to see your phone outside now i don't watch a ton of content on this phone simply because it's not a super enjoyable experience it's perfectly fine if you're used to the smaller displays but i've been using big phones with big displays ever since like the iphone 6s plus so that's why i prefer watching content on something like my ipad pro or of course the computer but like i said it's not bad it's just passable we also get stereo speakers so we have one at the bottom and then one up top and they don't get super loud which isn't a big deal for me since i mostly use my air pods anyways but it is worth mentioning if you do like listening to things out loud and not through your headphones now the area where you really start to see the value in this phone comes with the internals and the performance so inside the iphone se we have the current latest chipset apple's a13 bionic chip which is the same chip in the 1 000 iphone 11 pro max we also get three gigabytes of ram and i've actually been very impressed with the overall ram management on this phone i really did not expect it to be on par with the iphone 11 but it is and i've actually done speed tests as well where i test the ram against like the new pixel 4a and other phones like that as well and the iphone se stands its ground it actually puts up a nice fight when it comes to ram management so yeah this little guy is an absolute beast in the performance area and that does also include gaming so i don't game on this very often obviously because the types of game i play just need a bigger screen like call of duty mobile and pub g and things like that but this is an excellent budget gaming device it's going to outperform any 400 phone that you throw at it with ease so if you're looking for a cheap budget gaming device this is a perfect solution for you but again the screen size could be a deal breaker it just depends on the type of games you play but overall the raw performance is great on the iphone se now we also get wi-fi 6 support which is great for future proofing this phone so you will get improved wi-fi performance at places with wi-fi 6 like businesses or stadiums and eventually of course your house in a few years when that starts getting more popular now as far as the software i am running ios 14 on the iphone se and we get a lot of great features of course like widgets we have the app library over here we can see all of your applications and they don't have to be shown on your home screen so like if i wanted to hide like this united application right here i could just go to remove app and then i could just move it to the app library and that way it's not on my home screen but i didn't delete the application it just shows up in the app library or i could just search it from a spotlight by simply typing in you know to begin typing out united of course again we do have the widgets right there we do also have a really cool feature called a back tab so we go into settings and then to accessibility and then down to touch and then all the way down to back tap right here and then go to double tap this is going to basically invoke actions based on us tapping on the back of the phone so i'll just do home right now so with two taps on the back of the phone like the the apple logo right here if i just tap two times take a look at this it takes me back to the home screen so of course you can set that back to do multiple things but just simply tapping the back of the phone two or three times can invoke any of these actions and you can also set it for shortcuts so if you make a shortcut in the shortcuts application you can invoke that by simply tapping the back of the phone which is really neat and especially for the price point of this phone it's an awesome feature and of course there are a ton of other features in ios 14 that i'm not going to cover in this video just because i make a lot of ios 14 videos on my channel so if you want to see all the features in ios 14 i will leave a link down in the description below where i cover way more than 100 features in this new software update now along with that a13 chip comes great enhancements to the camera so we do get the same 12 megapixel camera lens that we found on the iphone 8 but thanks to that a13 chip and the crazy image processing software that apple has developed called smart hdr the pictures come out blowing the iphone 8 away and actually rival phones like the iphone 11 and the iphone 10 are now of course i'm not saying that the pictures are as good as they are on the iphone 11. they're good but they're not iphone 11 quality good but again they're excellent for a 400 phone and again the only reason that these photos are even good in 2020 is because of that second generation smart hdr that apple has implemented which is just terrific and if you go into your settings and go to camera and go down you do have smart hdr right here so it is a toggle so if you didn't know what i was talking about that is a toggle inside of camera to enable smart hdr and i would 100 recommend everybody to keep this on now unfortunately we do not get deep fusion night mode or portrait photos of objects but we do get the camera controls in the camera application so if we go over to our video and then tap on hd you can see i could change it to 4k and back right there same with the frame rate so i can change it from 30 to 60 you know right there from inside of the camera application and i don't need to go into the settings to change that every time which is nice now speaking of video the video quality on the se is great and it's not quite as good as the 10r or the iphone 11 but the ois the audio quality and just the overall dynamic range is stellar for a 400 phone and again 95 of the reason it's so good is because of the software that's powering that camera now when it comes to the front-facing camera this is where we have a little bit of a letdown so we do have that weak 7 megapixel camera with no option to shoot video in 4k so if we switch over to video right here you can see there you cannot change it it's only hd and 720p there is no 4k for the front-facing video but you also don't get access to the animoji or the memojis which is also a letdown so i don't know why apple didn't include that but you cannot do animojis or memoji's on the front facing camera on the se but at least you can take portrait selfies if you go over to portrait right here you can see it does stay on the front and we can take a portrait selfie just like so and you do also get access to every one of the portrait mode effects which is nice because we have seen apple take those away for some devices previously now most everything i've talked about so far has sounded pretty good but what about the battery life because i think this probably was and still is the biggest factor that most people are going to consider before buying this phone especially the iphone sc because it has the same battery as the 2017 iphone 8 so a lot of people at launch were like this battery's not going to be good you know it's the same battery as a 2017 iphone why would i buy this it's going to have terrible battery life but that's not the case because what a lot of people don't realize is that the a13 bionic chip inside of this guy saves the day once again by being a lot more power efficient than the iphone 8 was with that a11 chip so i get through about 50 to 75 of my day on a single charge after charging overnight which is pretty good for me now i did notice that i don't use it as much as i do pretty much any other phone simply because i prefer watching any type of media on my iphone 11 pro max or my ipad pro or my computer but with other phones i don't mind watching youtube videos and twitch streams and things like that so i use those phones a lot more than i use the iphone se i found myself using the iphone sc more for like critical things like texting and phone calls and just traditional phone things and taking pictures and taking videos i don't use it as much to consume media and do a lot of the you know other stuff that i don't need to do on the phone if that makes sense so overall the battery life is pretty good of course it's not going to get you through the full day but it will be good enough especially for a 400 phone you really cannot complain about the efficiency here now just some other miscellaneous things i wanted to note in this video are that the cases and screen protectors for the se can be found everywhere for pretty cheap since we have the same design as the iphone 8. so instead of searching for iphone se case or iphone se screen protector search for iphone 8 and you'll probably find them a little bit cheaper now also the iphone se is going to have several years of software support to come thanks to that a13 chip inside and this is yeah another reason why this phone is such a good value you can't name any other brand new phone for 400 that's gonna last as long as the iphone se will you just can't and not only that but you can't name a 400 phone that will outperform the iphone sc in any category like especially gaming you know still videos you cannot name a 400 phone that's going to do both outlast it software wise and also you know beat it in terms of performance and gaming and things like that so for all those reasons that's why i think that the iphone se is still one of the best deals in tech right now as long as you don't mind a small data design and of course using that home button i think it is a terrific value here still in 2020 and it's probably still going to be the case in 2021 and maybe even 2022. of course i will do an updated review when that time comes but the future is looking bright for the iphone se and once again if you're coming from an iphone 8 iphone 8 plus iphone 7 7 plus or even earlier than that this is the perfect upgrade for you in my opinion there have also been several people who sold their iphone 10 their iphone 10r and even somebody commented on one of my videos that they sold their iphone 11 to get the se now some did it to save money and others did it just because of that small form factor and of course we have the touch id right here which some people just prefer over face id but whatever your situation is the iphone se is a solid smartphone that cannot be ignored and i think the apple did a great job here and surprisingly it actually lived up to the three year long hype so what do you think about the 2020 iphone sc would you switch from a bigger phone to get the iphone se do you have the iphone se now how is it running for you how's it holding up have you dropped it have you had it in water how are things going with your iphone se i want to hear all your thoughts about this device this great device down in the comment section below you guys know i love reading those and i love responding to those as well and of course if you guys enjoyed this video i would appreciate if you gave it a thumbs up and of course make sure you guys do subscribe for more videos just like this one on the iphone se and maybe some older devices as well if you guys want me to do those videos let me know down in the comments below but anyways guys thanks again for watching and i'll see you soon youwhat's up guys my name is brandon and the 2020 iphone se was one of the most hyped iphones ever and now that i've been using it for about five months i wanted to give you guys my full long-term review and why i think it's still an excellent purchase for a good amount of there you cannot change it it's only hd and 720p there is no 4k for the front-facing video but you also don't get access to the animoji or the memojis which is also a letdown so i don't know why apple didn't include that but you cannot do animojis or memoji's on the front facing camera on the se but at least you can take portrait selfies if you go over to portrait right here you can see it does stay on the front and we can take a portrait selfie just like so and you do also get access to every one of the portrait mode effects which is nice because we have seen apple take those away for some devices previously now most everything i've talked about so far has sounded pretty good but what about the battery life because i think this probably was and still is the biggest factor that most people are going to consider before buying this phone especially the iphone sc because it has the same battery as the 2017 iphone 8 so a lot of people at launch were like this battery's not going to be good you know it's the same battery as a 2017 iphone why would i buy this it's going to have terrible battery life but that's not the case because what a lot of people don't realize is that the a13 bionic chip inside of this guy saves the day once again by being a lot more power efficient than the iphone 8 was with that a11 chip so i get through about 50 to 75 of my day on a single charge after charging overnight which is pretty good for me now i did notice that i don't use it as much as i do pretty much any other phone simply because i prefer watching any type of media on my iphone 11 pro max or my ipad pro or my computer but with other phones i don't mind watching youtube videos and twitch streams and things like that so i use those phones a lot more than i use the iphone se i found myself using the iphone sc more for like critical things like texting and phone calls and just traditional phone things and taking pictures and taking videos i don't use it as much to consume media and do a lot of the you know other stuff that i don't need to do on the phone if that makes sense so overall the battery life is pretty good of course it's not going to get you through the full day but it will be good enough especially for a 400 phone you really cannot complain about the efficiency here now just some other miscellaneous things i wanted to note in this video are that the cases and screen protectors for the se can be found everywhere for pretty cheap since we have the same design as the iphone 8. so instead of searching for iphone se case or iphone se screen protector search for iphone 8 and you'll probably find them a little bit cheaper now also the iphone se is going to have several years of software support to come thanks to that a13 chip inside and this is yeah another reason why this phone is such a good value you can't name any other brand new phone for 400 that's gonna last as long as the iphone se will you just can't and not only that but you can't name a 400 phone that will outperform the iphone sc in any category like especially gaming you know still videos you cannot name a 400 phone that's going to do both outlast it software wise and also you know beat it in terms of performance and gaming and things like that so for all those reasons that's why i think that the iphone se is still one of the best deals in tech right now as long as you don't mind a small data design and of course using that home button i think it is a terrific value here still in 2020 and it's probably still going to be the case in 2021 and maybe even 2022. of course i will do an updated review when that time comes but the future is looking bright for the iphone se and once again if you're coming from an iphone 8 iphone 8 plus iphone 7 7 plus or even earlier than that this is the perfect upgrade for you in my opinion there have also been several people who sold their iphone 10 their iphone 10r and even somebody commented on one of my videos that they sold their iphone 11 to get the se now some did it to save money and others did it just because of that small form factor and of course we have the touch id right here which some people just prefer over face id but whatever your situation is the iphone se is a solid smartphone that cannot be ignored and i think the apple did a great job here and surprisingly it actually lived up to the three year long hype so what do you think about the 2020 iphone sc would you switch from a bigger phone to get the iphone se do you have the iphone se now how is it running for you how's it holding up have you dropped it have you had it in water how are things going with your iphone se i want to hear all your thoughts about this device this great device down in the comment section below you guys
