Frustrating MyFord Touch _ Consumer Reports

The Edge is one of the first Ford products to offer my Ford Touch This Much advertised dashboard design. Well we found it to be frustrating on a lot of different levels. It seems there's three or four different ways to make common climate and radio adjustments.

Your first option is to use the touchscreen now this touchscreen it's pretty clear it's also fairly logically organized but each one of these Pages well there's a lot of different information on them buttons you push on this screens and the fonts they're all quite small makes it hard to make adjustments while you're driving the car. Okay so if you don't want to use a touchscreen you can use the buttons on the center console but these aren't ordinary buttons and knobs these are touch sensitive capacitance buttons they're really small so it's hard to find them they're easy to brush and accidentally activate also they're hard to work if you're wearing gloves.

A third option is that these buttons on the steering wheel which look like cell phone buttons you can use them to control a whole bunch of different functions through these two screens on either side of the speedometer. One side it shows fuel economy information you can change what the gauges look like on the other side you can see what the radio is playing or you can use it to adjust the climate controls. Any way you look at it there's a whole lot going on here so let's say those other methods are all too much for you.

You can use the extensive voice commands that are within the sync system please say a command climate temperature 70° did you say 70° yes setting temperature to 70 de the voice recognition generally works well but it certainly isn't Flawless and it can be really frustrating when it doesn't work perfectly good luck trying to get kids in the back to be quiet when you're changing climate or radio stations. Also it can be a bit odd to talk to your car when you have other adults riding along with you.

Ford claims this version of sync knows over 10,000 words it's really helpful if you have't navigation system you can say I'm hungry or I need a bathroom and it will give you a list of restaurants or nearby gas stations. This is also the best way to control an iPod in the car please say a command USB USB say a command Play song September playing song September.

We find that this latest version of Ford SYNC and my Ford touch works well for complex commands however this car's design a lot of the simple control inputs that you make every day they're a whole lot worse
