How to Root the Moto X (All Versions)

How to Root Your Moto X Using an App from XDA Developer

Hello guys, this is David from the unlocker.net and today I'm excited to share with you a tutorial on how to root your Moto X using a developer on XDA. This app will not only give you root access but also allow you to write to the system, which we'll explain later. The best part is that this method works on all varieties of the Moto X, regardless of the carrier.

First things first, head over to the Developer Post website and download the version for your device. Make sure to select the carrier you have, such as AT&T in my case. Download the APK file to your desktop, then plug your Moto X into your computer via USB. Copy the downloaded APK file to the root of your internal storage on your device, which means not inside any folders just on the root directory itself.

Once you've copied the file, unplug your device and pull down the notification bar. Tap on the Quick Settings icon and then go to settings. Scroll down to security and make sure that "Unknown Sources" is checked on. This will allow your device to install APK files from outside the Play Store. Now, go to the Play Store and search for ES File Explorer or any other file explorer you prefer to use. I'm going to use ES File Explorer in this tutorial.

Install the ES File Explorer app once it's installed, then open it and scroll down to find the APK on my Moto. Tap that and hit install. I understand install, and once it's installed, hit open it. The app will explain what it does, but don't worry too much about that right now. Please consider donating to the developer of this app, as they work really hard to make these apps available for us.

Now, tap "Set up" on your device, and it will reboot a few times. Wait for it to do so, and eventually, it will stop rebooting. Mine did it about three times, but it does take a second to reboot, so even though you see the PIN screen, don't type anything just wait. Eventually, though, it will just sit on the PIN screen and won't do anything until you put your PIN in.

Now that we're on the home screen, we'll go back to the Play Store and search for Super SU. Install that, wait for it to install, then open it. Click continue, hit normal, and say installation success. Click okay, and you now have root access and the ability to write to the system. Enjoy!
