The 650HP ROUSH Ford F-150 is a $80,000 of Fun for $96,000

The F-150: A Luxury Pickup Truck with a Compromise

I have to say, I was initially skeptical about buying a luxury pickup truck like the Ford F-150. But after spending some time with this behemoth of a vehicle, I realize that it's actually a great option for those who need a truck that can handle both on-road and off-road situations. The 2022 F-150 is available in various trim levels, but we'll be focusing on the high-end models that make it feel like a luxury car.

One of the main concerns I had when buying this truck was its suspension. As someone who wants to get to the outdoors or work in rugged terrain, I need a truck that can handle rough roads and inclement weather. So, I opted for the 511 package, which adds several performance upgrades to the truck. But before we dive into the details of the 511 package, let's talk about what you get when you buy an F-150 at this level.

The base price of the 2022 F-150 is around $94,000, which may seem like a lot of money for a pickup truck. However, it's worth noting that every truck company now offers high-end models that cost near six figures. And trust me, this truck delivers. The interior is luxurious, with premium materials and amenities like heated and cooled seats, a power liftgate, and a massive 12-inch touchscreen display.

But what really sets the F-150 apart from other trucks on the market is its capabilities. Whether you need to tow heavy loads or navigate rough terrain, this truck can handle it with ease. And if you're looking for a truck that can keep up with your active lifestyle, the F-150 is definitely worth considering.

However, when I decided to opt for the 511 package, which adds several performance upgrades to the truck, I realized that there were some compromises involved. The front suspension, for example, was softened slightly from stock to provide a more comfortable ride on tarmac. While this was appreciated by me as I spend most of my time driving on paved roads, it's worth noting that I could still feel the leaf springs in the back of the truck, which were still too stiff.

To make up for this, some truck companies have switched over to using coilovers in the back, which provides a more compliant ride. And, indeed, the Raptor model is much better in this regard. But when it comes to on-road comfort and off-road ability, I can honestly say that the F-150 shines. It's like driving a luxury car, but with the added capability of a truck.

Now, let's talk about what you get with the 511 package. This bundle adds several performance upgrades to the truck, including a supercharged engine that produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. It also includes sport-tuned shocks, which provide a more responsive ride. And, if you're looking for a truck that can really move, the 511 package is the way to go.

But what's really interesting about this package is how it compares to other performance upgrades available on the market. The Roush Performance Pack, for example, adds several aerodynamic upgrades to the truck, including a front splitter and side skirts. And, if you're looking for a real head-turner, the F-150 looks great with these upgrades.

So, what's the price tag for all this? Well, when I pieced together all the performance parts on the Roush Performance Pack, it came out to be $15,000. But wait, there's more! The 511 package adds another $16,000 to the bill, bringing the total cost of the truck to over $110,000.

Now, I know what you're thinking - is all this worth it? And my answer is, maybe not. While the F-150 is an incredible truck, and the 511 package does add some nice touches, I'm not convinced that it's worth the price tag. The swag, or "uniforms" as they call them, are just a little too much for me.

In fact, if you're looking to upgrade your truck with performance parts, I would recommend skipping the 511 package and opting for something like the Roush Performance Pack instead. Not only is it more affordable, but it also adds some nice upgrades that make the truck feel really special.

But hey, if you want a luxury pickup truck with all the bells and whistles, the F-150 is definitely worth considering. Just be prepared to spend over $100,000 for a vehicle that's capable of handling both on-road and off-road situations. And don't forget to take it out for a spin - I promise you won't be disappointed!

Driving an Old Muscle Car: A Similar Feeling

But driving a luxury pickup truck isn't the only way to feel like a badass behind the wheel. There's something special about driving an old muscle car that just can't be replicated. For me, there's no substitute for the thrill of driving a classic American muscle car.

When I'm behind the wheel of my trusty '68 Camaro SS, I feel alive. The rumble of the V8 engine, the whine of the exhaust pipes, and the rush of adrenaline as I hit the open road - it's an experience like no other. And while the F-150 is a great truck, it doesn't quite evoke the same feeling.

But what I do appreciate about the F-150 is its reliability and capability. Whether you're towing heavy loads or navigating rough terrain, this truck can handle it with ease. And if you're looking for a vehicle that's just as capable on-road and off-road, look no further than the F-150.

In Conclusion

The 2022 Ford F-150 is an incredible luxury pickup truck that offers unparalleled capabilities and comfort on both paved roads and rough terrain. The 511 package adds several performance upgrades to the truck, including a supercharged engine and sport-tuned shocks. While it's worth considering for those who need a truck that can handle heavy loads or navigate challenging terrain, I'm not convinced that it's worth the price tag.

But hey, if you want a luxury pickup truck with all the bells and whistles, the F-150 is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared to spend over $100,000 for a vehicle that's capable of handling both on-road and off-road situations. And don't forget to take it out for a spin - I promise you won't be disappointed!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: engood morning everybody welcome to a day of subtle extroversion quiet noise i'm not sure from the outside to me this looks just looks like a fairly normal uh f-150 in black with some wheels and tires but under the hood we have 650 horsepower which is a lot and it's amazing and can we just thank ford for building an engine that you can turn up by 50 percent or more and it's fine and can still come with a warranty that's incredible it's a good time to be into cars i know everybody's worried about the electrification of everything and carb and all this stuff but this is horsepower with a warranty that you buy at a dealership in a truck unit else has that much horsepower a zl1 a mclaren 650 uh the last generation of gt500 i mean that's the company we're in with this power but i digress this is the 2020 roush f-150 5.11 tactical edition it's a limited edition truck and we're gonna get into what that means what this package comes with but this is also the first new f-150 i've driven in a really long time um i haven't driven one since maybe a platinum edition on a shoot and that was years ago so this is going to be a review of the f-150 in general the roush performance package and then the 5.11 package as well so the truck is sold in two colors only agate black and abyss gray they're both f-150 colors from ford but those are the two you can get under here you have the roush supercharger system eaton builds the interior roush builds the housing it's bolted to ford's 5-liter v8 suspension upgrade in the front is also the roush fox 2.0 system you get new springs and shocks the front of the truck definitely feels more compliant and comfortable than the back so when you if you look at the truck from far away it basically looks like a black f-150 and then you see the roush badging in the front they've swapped out this the normal ford grille for one that says roush same position it has a c lights which stand for roush adds these fender flares with these little marker lights on them i think the flares definitely help the proportion of the truck especially with the wheels and tire package but i think that plastic looks bad on any car even when it's a black truck with black plastic it's just these are gonna they're grayish now they're gonna get worse as they age i think these really should be metal be expensive but it'd be awesome power step super handy depending on your height uh part of the 511 package are these digital camouflage graphics so if you drive in front of a big you know lcd screen like in times square i guess this will blend in now the bed has ford's soft open catch which is great lowers it down slowly i think that's one of the smartest inventions in trucks in a long time as is the step just do that pull this out lift that up it's a lot safer to get in and out especially if it's raining or it's muddy or if you're i don't know using really thick boots and you can't feel the baseboard that's a good thing what i don't understand is that this is a very expensive truck and they didn't get the 500 rhino liner in the bed i mean it's it's slippy back here i'm wearing sticky shoes and it is pretty slick and you're going to scratch it up i don't understand that but you do get a bunch of different places to anchor things down on the bed as well as these handy lights so back here you have the roush active exhaust it's actually their own design it has four settings it has touring sport off-road and custom i haven't found the difference between sport and off-road i just know they're both loud and they sound awesome and it's really handy because this thing makes a bunch of noise when i was driving around here i didn't always want to make all that noise so i could just turn it back to touring and it just sounded like a totally normal truck uh you also get these roush designed 20-inch wheels which i think are really good looking with 33-inch all-terrain tires now for suspension back here they do their roush fox 2.0 shocks i think the leaf springs are still stock and they're a little bit stiff when you're driving the truck around when it's unladen definitely stiffer than a raptor and not as comfortable i haven't driven a new f2 150 non-roush yet so i don't know if the leaf springs are different or not but i don't think they are in the olden days trucks were very utilitarian right if you lived in a area that required them or you had a job that required them you'd buy a truck at 20 or 30. own it for 70 years it would put you in the ground and then it would go find someone else but today in the last couple years they've become very luxurious experiences or at least you can option them to be that so if you live somewhere where maybe you need more ground clearance than a mercedes or you're just into trucks and need to tow stuff this is now your luxury vehicle also it does both things and this one is optioned up really really nicely i don't have a spec sheet for the f-150 before roush got it i just have the roush sheet which we'll get into but this truck has everything i've got a lot of steering wheel controls my volume right here phone just below that cruise control and then the toggle switches for the menu in the center of the gauges now those menus are really handy and they respond really really quickly to your inputs you've got things like fuel economy trip stuff navigation tire pressure engine things towing status trailer light checkups off-road status with all the different gauges showing how much lean you have right before you crash right before i crash you know cross traffic alert all your driver aids everything is in there um this manual reacts really really quickly it actually reacts faster than the sync menu which as legible it is and as much as i like sync it's getting a little slow it needs a new processor update on the left side all your headlight controls have power pedal adjustments the mirrors are power both in how they're angled and also in their extension so if you have a trailer you just move the the mirrors out and if the trailer goes away because you unhook it not because it falls off bring the mirrors back in front windows are one touch and very very fast you might win a window drag race and i really like the cut they made in this door it gives you a lot more visibility of the ground when you're turning i feel safer driving around parked cars i can also have much larger mirrors and see them really easily compared to a truck that had like you know the flat high belt line there up here all your controls for interior lights sunroof panoramic roof all the various roofs and the back window this roof is huge so you've got two touches to open the shade for one touch it goes halfway next touch it goes all the way same thing going back and then the same thing to open the actual sunroof itself which helped earlier when several bees and flies got in the car you have these awesome cameras that assist you with parking or towing or getting your hitch on i really like this stuff i know it adds a lot of money to the price of the vehicle but i'm not used to driving big trucks like this uh and so having the different cameras showing me the different bumpers is really helpful the materials in here are an interesting mix of really nice and really inexpensive and that's because you can get an f-150 for as low as i think six thousand dollars and then you can get one that costs almost a hundred thousand dollars and some of those parts will be carried over you know they're not going to make five different vents for f-150s just because people spend a little bit more money they're gonna use the same one so you know some of these plastics are thin some things like the leather feel really nice it's just a mixed bag lots of storage there's a pocket under the door handle which is kind of hard to get to i don't know that before but it's there plenty of room for water bottles and things like that you also have these little like pen trays on the right side where you can store things that will jiggle and make noise later and make you think your truck is breaking because that's what i do in my car you know and then a 110 outlet and a cigarette lighter so you can either use a modern blender or you can use one from a truck stop i mean all around it's a really nice place to be if you have to drive a lot some people might complain that the controls don't look that nice and i think rams are a little bit nicer looking but ultimately for me if i'm buying a truck or an suv i want to know that the things are going to work for a long time be functional and i can use them with gloves on because i want to take this to the snow or live in a cold climate i want to be able to operate everything if i'm wearing gloves and i think i could here and i like that a lot like the front of the car the back seat is really well appointed and also very spacious the front seat is set to my seating position i'm 510 and as you can see i have quite a bit of leg room i mean this is a crew cab your crew could fit back here also has some convenient stuff it's got two usb ports uh a 110 outlet really helpful for me when i'm working on the road and i need to use a laptop or if you need to use like i don't know i guess a low wattage power tool something like that and you have heated seats no cooled seats back here in this spec but i'm sure you can get them because the car companies will take your money and give you the things you want uh one thing about well i lock the windows the windows are not one touch they are one continuous touch but i like to think if you own a pickup truck you have a job that requires a lot more physical activity than mine does and you can probably handle that kind of thing as expected you have an arm rest it's got a cup holder in it some of the leather right around here is not fitting that great i'm not sure if that is a ford thing or a roush thing but it's not uh roush also gives you a gear bag they store under the seat and inside it are jumper cables a tow strap some ratchet straps and working gloves which i think that whole thing is pretty nice thing to offer actually so the 511 tactical edition is part performance package and then part like aesthetics first responder gear other stuff package which we'll get into in a little bit one of those things is a safe in the center console so if you're a police officer swat or i don't know any kind of person that needs to carry uh something dangerous or expensive or important you can store it in here and lock it and it doesn't actually infringe on the volume of the center console that much it's actually just a steel plate that's bolted to the plastic sides of this thing so you still have the basically the same volume inside is just a lot more secure all right you've seen the outside you've seen the inside you kind of know how this thing's appointed but uh let's go feel what 650 horsepower 80 feet off the ground is like let's do it from a dig okay we're in automatic mode we'll just let it figure it out oh i'm not moving forward okay okay this thing has a presence and attitude that i don't think any pickup truck i've driven has honestly like i've driven raptors i like them a lot i respect them and i think i think that is currently the king of trucks because it's the truckiest truck when i think of a pickup truck i want something that can haul some stuff in the back and take me basically anywhere you know they're a little wide for narrow trails that's what you get a wrangler for but otherwise the raptor is a really burly thing it's really comfortable etc etc but it doesn't have this attitude and even when it had the 6-2 in it it it doesn't have 650 horsepower that just roasts tires when you leave the line man this is uh this thing is a hoot like i have two brains you know i have my logical brain and my emotional brain we all do and my logical brain would look at this thing and be like who needs a 650 horsepower truck where is it going is it racing somebody there i mean if you're a race truck that's different and then i get in the thing and i can't ignore it it's the same feeling you get when you drive an old muscle car or like a new charger something like that something big and powerful and loud i don't know it's like it it taps into the kid in you and it also i think it weirdly taps into the part of our brain that likes to be up high you know like animals and humans have always tried to get up higher to see more of their surroundings either to find resources or to protect themselves that's why when you're trying to look farther away you go like this it's why hedgehogs stand up on a rock it's why monkeys live in the trees like it's the same thing when when i get in a truck i do suddenly feel a little bit safer and stronger i mean this big thing that feels like it could drive through a mountain and in this case outrun a tidal wave i don't know it it goes against the side of me that's into uh sustainability and electric cars i mean this thing is getting like nine miles per gallon uh this this week but you know you you can't you can't ignore the id of a in all of us you can't ignore the part that likes to have fun it is fighting for traction right there so hard here we go this is you know second gear from 3 300 rpm it's like sitting on a school bus that gets hit from behind by a train and the bus is fine and everyone's fine everybody goes for a very enjoyable fast ride you know nobody gets hurt it gets it gets going really quick man this thing is a steam train this is you know who owns this truck the uncle that bought you fireworks for the first time that's that's who this truck is for this kind of horsepower in this package you know it's not a pre-runner it's not a desert racer it's not a rock crawler it's just got a little lift to it a little more tire and a ton of power that's for the person who wants to have a good time you know maybe they've retired or done well for themselves they like burnouts they like beer sometimes you know maybe they're married maybe they're married again i don't know it's the fun uncle i had an uncle that taught me how to shoot butter across a restaurant using a napkin and he taught me in the restaurant this is for that guy the 10-speed transmission is pretty good i really like being able to select the gears on the side of it that helps going down hills or if you're driving in the dirt it's a lot better than having some kind of column shift or just trusting it in drive the shifts are a little slow and clunky i will say that i bet it's very challenging to make a transmission that is both strong enough to handle truck duty like towing and you know four wheel drive and all that stuff but also have it shift really smoothly so you kind of have to find a compromise i just was surprised by some of the pauses it had that could be a programming issue i don't know if roush does their own programming on it or if it's a ford thing so maybe it can be improved upon but in the canyons which you know you wouldn't take this truck in the cans this is not a canyon vehicle but if you go hunting or off-roading or camping those roads to get to those activities are usually pretty twisty and i'm pretty impressed i mean i i remember when we had uh when matt had his raptor which we used as a camera vehicle we were all really impressed by the raptors ability to go around corners quickly and pretty flat despite its soft suspension and this is no different this truck has the fox 2.0 suspension system in the front and fox shocks in the back and i think it helps keep the truck really flat in the corners um i haven't really been wanting for you know that scroll almost got it and sway bars or anything like that you know you don't you don't want a truck that leans over a ton i mean if you do a lot of off-roading you're going to want soft suspension and that will be a compromise you have to make but if you're buying a truck because you want to get to the outdoors or you work in the outdoors most of the time is going to be spent on tarmac and you want that driving experience to be good that is part of the reason they soften the front suspension slightly from stock it's a little more compliant soaks up bumps a little bit better i will say i can feel the leaf springs in the back and they're still too stiff some truck companies have switched over to using uh coilovers in the back it's a little more compliant ride this is still just a little bit jittery when there's nothing in the back the raptor is much much better if you've driven one or the other if you haven't like the raptor really shines for its on-road comfort and then off-road ability but the raptor doesn't have 650 horsepower or a v8 that kinda made me sad whoa whoa i think the important things about this review are what does an f-150 give you when it's optioned to this level and then what does the roush performance pack give you and what does the 511 pack give you so that brings us to the numbers right this truck as specked is 94 000 that's a lot of money but remember every every truck company now makes a truck that costs near six figures um i mean it's basically the mercedes s-class for people that have to live or work in areas where there's dirt roads inclement weather or you know whatever like that's just the culture there i mean in me i used to make fun of that but in many ways a luxury pickup truck is a more capable and useful vehicle than a luxury car because a luxury car can only take you places on tarmac and this thing this could take you places on dirt roads or tow something ultimately it's not only for me to judge anymore um what i am going to judge though is the price of the 511 package so that package on this truck is 31 000. okay if you go to ralph's if you're not ralph if you go to roush's site and if you piece all the performance parts together it's fifteen thousand dollars the blower is eight grand the wheels are two grand two grand for the exhaust and and the suspension and now you're at fifteen thousand dollars so where's the other sixteen thousand dollars going well it gives you you know the stickers and these different seats um special roush floor mats i don't think it gives you enough really you know and that's not a i'm not judging 511 the company they make a lot of uniforms and military gear and a lot of stuff like that but i just think that the package isn't really worth the money it seems like you get a lot of swag that is kind of connected to the you know either gun hobby or to the you know first responders but if the whole thing is about making this truck capable for any situation because that's what they say uh i don't really see how that stuff makes it any more capable you know the gun safe if you need that your job is scary i hope you don't have to use it that's useful but the rest of the stuff i think you could leave on the table you know get the roush package get all the horsepower dust raptors from a dig make a lot of sports cars feel kind of bad from a pull and just you know you drive around with a smile on your face because this thing is ridiculous in in a great way it's the same way i like driving you know 68 chevilles they don't stop they don't turn unless you do a ton of work to them they don't have airbags they're not safe they don't have crumpled protection but oh my god there's nothing like driving an old muscle car it just makes you smile because it's like dumb and fun makes you feel kind of like a badass even though i'm not trucks do the same thing for me you know you feel very you feel impervious in these things i don't know why you just feel i feel like you could take on basically anything i hope you guys enjoyed this review i wanted to make it about the f-150 in general and all the different ways you can configure and the things you can get and all the little gizmos and doodads because trucks that they come with lots of stuff and if you're looking to buy one or just curious about how they work there are a lot of different features to them and if you want something that goes really fast it makes a bunch of noise just get the roush package and then uh i don't know say you take the 15 grand and buy a wave runner and then tow that somewhere rightgood morning everybody welcome to a day of subtle extroversion quiet noise i'm not sure from the outside to me this looks just looks like a fairly normal uh f-150 in black with some wheels and tires but you can get one that costs almost a hundred thousand dollars and some of those parts will be carried over you know they're not going to make five different vents for f-150s just because people spend a little bit more money they're gonna use the same one so you know some of these plastics are thin some things like the leather feel really nice it's just a mixed bag lots of storage there's a pocket under the door handle which is kind of hard to get to i don't know that before but it's there plenty of room for water bottles and things like that you also have these little like pen trays on the right side where you can store things that will jiggle and make noise later and make you think your truck is breaking because that's what i do in my car you know and then a 110 outlet and a cigarette lighter so you can either use a modern blender or you can use one from a truck stop i mean all around it's a really nice place to be if you have to drive a lot some people might complain that the controls don't look that nice and i think rams are a little bit nicer looking but ultimately for me if i'm buying a truck or an suv i want to know that the things are going to work for a long time be functional and i can use them with gloves on because i want to take this to the snow or live in a cold climate i want to be able to operate everything if i'm wearing gloves and i think i could here and i like that a lot like the front of the car the back seat is really well appointed and also very spacious the front seat is set to my seating position i'm 510 and as you can see i have quite a bit of leg room i mean this is a crew cab your crew could fit back here also has some convenient stuff it's got two usb ports uh a 110 outlet really helpful for me when i'm working on the road and i need to use a laptop or if you need to use like i don't know i guess a low wattage power tool something like that and you have heated seats no cooled seats back here in this spec but i'm sure you can get them because the car companies will take your money and give you the things you want uh one thing about well i lock the windows the windows are not one touch they are one continuous touch but i like to think if you own a pickup truck you have a job that requires a lot more physical activity than mine does and you can probably handle that kind of thing as expected you have an arm rest it's got a cup holder in it some of the leather right around here is not fitting that great i'm not sure if that is a ford thing or a roush thing but it's not uh roush also gives you a gear bag they store under the seat and inside it are jumper cables a tow strap some ratchet straps and working gloves which i think that whole thing is pretty nice thing to offer actually so the 511 tactical edition is part performance package and then part like aesthetics first responder gear other stuff package which we'll get into in a little bit one of those things is a safe in the center console so if you're a police officer swat or i don't know any kind of person that needs to carry uh something dangerous or expensive or important you can store it in here and lock it and it doesn't actually infringe on the volume of the center console that much it's actually just a steel plate that's bolted to the plastic sides of this thing so you still have the basically the same volume inside is just a lot more secure all right you've seen the outside you've seen the inside you kind of know how this thing's appointed but uh let's go feel what 650 horsepower 80 feet off the ground is like let's do it from a dig okay we're in automatic mode we'll just let it figure it out oh i'm not moving forward okay okay this thing has a presence and attitude that i don't think any pickup truck i've driven has honestly like i've driven raptors i like them a lot i respect them and i think i think that is currently the king of trucks because it's the truckiest truck when i think of a pickup truck i want something that can haul some stuff in the back and take me basically anywhere you know they're a little wide for narrow trails that's what you get a wrangler for but otherwise the raptor is a really burly thing it's really comfortable etc etc but it doesn't have this attitude and even when it had the 6-2 in it it it doesn't have 650 horsepower that just roasts tires when you leave the line man this is uh this thing is a hoot like i have two brains you know i have my logical brain and my emotional brain we all do and my logical brain would look at this thing and be like who needs a 650 horsepower truck where is it going is it racing somebody there i mean if you're a race truck that's different and then i get in the thing and i can't ignore it it's the same feeling you get when you drive an old muscle car or like a new charger something like that something big and powerful and loud i don't know it's like it it taps into the kid in you and it also i think it weirdly taps into the part of our brain that likes to be up high you know like animals and humans have always tried to get up higher to see more of their surroundings either to find resources or to protect themselves that's why when you're trying to look farther away you go like this it's why hedgehogs stand up on a rock it's why monkeys live in the trees like it's the same thing when when i get in a truck i do suddenly feel a little bit safer and stronger i mean this big thing that feels like it could drive through a mountain and in this case outrun a tidal wave i don't know it it goes against the side of me that's into uh sustainability and electric cars i mean this thing is getting like nine miles per gallon uh this this week but you know you you can't you can't ignore the id of a in all of us you can't ignore the part that likes to have fun it is fighting for traction right there so hard here we go this is you know second gear from 3 300 rpm it's like sitting on a school bus that gets hit from behind by a train and the bus is fine and everyone's fine everybody goes for a very enjoyable fast ride you know nobody gets hurt it gets it gets going really quick man this thing is a steam train this is you know who owns this truck the uncle that bought you fireworks for the first time that's that's who this truck is for this kind of horsepower in this package you know it's not a pre-runner it's not a desert racer it's not a rock crawler it's just got a little lift to it a little more tire and a ton of power that's for the person who wants to have a good time you know maybe they've retired or done well for themselves they like burnouts they like beer sometimes you know maybe they're married maybe they're married again i don't know it's the fun uncle i had an uncle that taught me how to shoot butter across a restaurant using a napkin and he taught me in the restaurant this is for that guy the 10-speed transmission is pretty good i really like being able to select the gears on the side of it that helps going down hills or if you're driving in the dirt it's a lot better than having some kind of column shift or just trusting it in drive the shifts are a little slow and clunky i will say that i bet it's very challenging to make a transmission that is both strong enough to handle truck duty like towing and you know four wheel drive and all that stuff but also have it shift really smoothly so you kind of have to find a compromise i just was surprised by some of the pauses it had that could be a programming issue i don't know if roush does their own programming on it or if it's a ford thing so maybe it can be improved upon but in the canyons which you know you wouldn't take this truck in the cans this is not a canyon vehicle but if you go hunting or off-roading or camping those roads to get to those activities are usually pretty twisty and i'm pretty impressed i mean i i remember when we had uh when matt had his raptor which we used as a camera vehicle we were all really impressed by the raptors ability to go around corners quickly and pretty flat despite its soft suspension and this is no different this truck has the fox 2.0 suspension system in the front and fox shocks in the back and i think it helps keep the truck really flat in the corners um i haven't really been wanting for you know that scroll almost got it and sway bars or anything like that you know you don't you don't want a truck that leans over a ton i mean if you do a lot of off-roading you're going to want soft suspension and that will be a compromise you have to make but if you're buying a truck because you want to get to the outdoors or you work in the outdoors most of the time is going to be spent on tarmac and you want that driving experience to be good that is part of the reason they soften the front suspension slightly from stock it's a little more compliant soaks up bumps a little bit better i will say i can feel the leaf springs in the back and they're still too stiff some truck companies have switched over to using uh coilovers in the back it's a little more compliant ride this is still just a little bit jittery when there's nothing in the back the raptor is much much better if you've driven one or the other if you haven't like the raptor really shines for its on-road comfort and then off-road ability but the raptor doesn't have 650 horsepower or a v8 that kinda made me sad whoa whoa i think the important things about this review are what does an f-150 give you when it's optioned to this level and then what does the roush performance pack give you and what does the 511 pack give you so that brings us to the numbers right this truck as specked is 94 000 that's a lot of money but remember every every truck company now makes a truck that costs near six figures um i mean it's basically the mercedes s-class for people that have to live or work in areas where there's dirt roads inclement weather or you know whatever like that's just the culture there i mean in me i used to make fun of that but in many ways a luxury pickup truck is a more capable and useful vehicle than a luxury car because a luxury car can only take you places on tarmac and this thing this could take you places on dirt roads or tow something ultimately it's not only for me to judge anymore um what i am going to judge though is the price of the 511 package so that package on this truck is 31 000. okay if you go to ralph's if you're not ralph if you go to roush's site and if you piece all the performance parts together it's fifteen thousand dollars the blower is eight grand the wheels are two grand two grand for the exhaust and and the suspension and now you're at fifteen thousand dollars so where's the other sixteen thousand dollars going well it gives you you know the stickers and these different seats um special roush floor mats i don't think it gives you enough really you know and that's not a i'm not judging 511 the company they make a lot of uniforms and military gear and a lot of stuff like that but i just think that the package isn't really worth the money it seems like you get a lot of swag that is kind of connected to the you know either gun hobby or to the you know first responders but if the whole thing is about making this truck capable for any situation because that's what they say uh i don't really see how that stuff makes it any more capable you know the gun safe if you need that your job is scary i hope you don't have to use it that's useful but the rest of the stuff i think you could leave on the table you know get the roush package get all the horsepower dust raptors from a dig make a lot of sports cars feel kind of bad from a pull and just you know you drive around with a smile on your face because this thing is ridiculous in in a great way it's the same way i like driving you know 68 chevilles they don't stop they don't turn unless you do a ton of work to them they don't have airbags they're not safe they don't have crumpled protection but oh my god there's nothing like driving an old muscle car it just makes you smile because it's like dumb and fun makes you feel kind of like a badass even though i'm not trucks do the same thing for me you know you feel very you feel impervious in these things i don't know why you just feel i feel like you could take on basically anything i hope you guys enjoyed this review i wanted to make it about the f-150 in general and all the different ways you can configure and the things you can get and all the little gizmos and doodads because trucks that they come with lots of stuff and if you're looking to buy one or just curious about how they work there are a lot of different features to them and if you want something that goes really fast it makes a bunch of noise just get the roush package and then uh i don't know say you take the 15 grand and buy a wave runner and then tow that somewhere rightgood morning everybody welcome to a day of subtle extroversion quiet noise i'm not sure from the outside to me this looks just looks like a fairly normal uh f-150 in black with some wheels and tires but under the hood we have 650 horsepower which is a lot and it's amazing and can we just thank ford for building an engine that you can turn up by 50 percent or more and it's fine and can still come with a warranty that's incredible it's a good time to be into cars i know everybody's worried about the electrification of everything and carb and all this stuff but this is horsepower with a warranty that you buy at a dealership in a truck unit else has that much horsepower a zl1 a mclaren 650 uh the last generation of gt500 i mean that's the company we're in with this power but i digress this is the 2020 roush f-150 5.11 tactical edition it's a limited edition truck and we're gonna get into what that means what this package comes with but this is also the first new f-150 i've driven in a really long time um i haven't driven one since maybe a platinum edition on a shoot and that was years ago so this is going to be a review of the f-150 in general the roush performance package and then the 5.11 package as well so the truck is sold in two colors only agate black and abyss gray they're both f-150 colors from ford but those are the two you can get under here you have the roush supercharger system eaton builds the interior roush builds the housing it's bolted to ford's 5-liter v8 suspension upgrade in the front is also the roush fox 2.0 system you get new springs and shocks the front of the truck definitely feels more compliant and comfortable than the back so when you if you look at the truck from far away it basically looks like a black f-150 and then you see the roush badging in the front they've swapped out this the normal ford grille for one that says roush same position it has a c lights which stand for roush adds these fender flares with these little marker lights on them i think the flares definitely help the proportion of the truck especially with the wheels and tire package but i think that plastic looks bad on any car even when it's a black truck with black plastic it's just these are gonna they're grayish now they're gonna get worse as they age i think these really should be metal be expensive but it'd be awesome power step super handy depending on your height uh part of the 511 package are these digital camouflage graphics so if you drive in front of a big you know lcd screen like in times square i guess this will blend in now the bed has ford's soft open catch which is great lowers it down slowly i think that's one of the smartest inventions in trucks in a long time as is the step just do that pull this out lift that up it's a lot safer to get in and out especially if it's raining or it's muddy or if you're i don't know using really thick boots and you can't feel the baseboard that's a good thing what i don't understand is that this is a very expensive truck and they didn't get the 500 rhino liner in the bed i mean it's it's slippy back here i'm wearing sticky shoes and it is pretty slick and you're going to scratch it up i don't understand that but you do get a bunch of different places to anchor things down on the bed as well as these handy lights so back here you have the roush active exhaust it's actually their own design it has four settings it has touring sport off-road and custom i haven't found the difference between sport and off-road i just know they're both loud and they sound awesome and it's really handy because this thing makes a bunch of noise when i was driving around here i didn't always want to make all that noise so i could just turn it back to touring and it just sounded like a totally normal truck uh you also get these roush designed 20-inch wheels which i think are really good looking with 33-inch all-terrain tires now for suspension back here they do their roush fox 2.0 shocks i think the leaf springs are still stock and they're a little bit stiff when you're driving the truck around when it's unladen definitely stiffer than a raptor and not as comfortable i haven't driven a new f2 150 non-roush yet so i don't know if the leaf springs are different or not but i don't think they are in the olden days trucks were very utilitarian right if you lived in a area that required them or you had a job that required them you'd buy a truck at 20 or 30. own it for 70 years it would put you in the ground and then it would go find someone else but today in the last couple years they've become very luxurious experiences or at least you can option them to be that so if you live somewhere where maybe you need more ground clearance than a mercedes or you're just into trucks and need to tow stuff this is now your luxury vehicle also it does both things and this one is optioned up really really nicely i don't have a spec sheet for the f-150 before roush got it i just have the roush sheet which we'll get into but this truck has everything i've got a lot of steering wheel controls my volume right here phone just below that cruise control and then the toggle switches for the menu in the center of the gauges now those menus are really handy and they respond really really quickly to your inputs you've got things like fuel economy trip stuff navigation tire pressure engine things towing status trailer light checkups off-road status with all the different gauges showing how much lean you have right before you crash right before i crash you know cross traffic alert all your driver aids everything is in there um this manual reacts really really quickly it actually reacts faster than the sync menu which as legible it is and as much as i like sync it's getting a little slow it needs a new processor update on the left side all your headlight controls have power pedal adjustments the mirrors are power both in how they're angled and also in their extension so if you have a trailer you just move the the mirrors out and if the trailer goes away because you unhook it not because it falls off bring the mirrors back in front windows are one touch and very very fast you might win a window drag race and i really like the cut they made in this door it gives you a lot more visibility of the ground when you're turning i feel safer driving around parked cars i can also have much larger mirrors and see them really easily compared to a truck that had like you know the flat high belt line there up here all your controls for interior lights sunroof panoramic roof all the various roofs and the back window this roof is huge so you've got two touches to open the shade for one touch it goes halfway next touch it goes all the way same thing going back and then the same thing to open the actual sunroof itself which helped earlier when several bees and flies got in the car you have these awesome cameras that assist you with parking or towing or getting your hitch on i really like this stuff i know it adds a lot of money to the price of the vehicle but i'm not used to driving big trucks like this uh and so having the different cameras showing me the different bumpers is really helpful the materials in here are an interesting mix of really nice and really inexpensive and that's because you can get an f-150 for as low as i think six thousand dollars and then you can get one that costs almost a hundred thousand dollars and some of those parts will be carried over you know they're not going to make five different vents for f-150s just because people spend a little bit more money they're gonna use the same one so you know some of these plastics are thin some things like the leather feel really nice it's just a mixed bag lots of storage there's a pocket under the door handle which is kind of hard to get to i don't know that before but it's there plenty of room for water bottles and things like that you also have these little like pen trays on the right side where you can store things that crew could fit back here also has some convenient stuff it's got two usb ports uh a 110 outlet really helpful for me when i'm working on the road and i need to use a laptop or if you need to use like i don't know i guess a low wattage power tool something like that and you have heated seats no cooled seats back here in this spec but i'm sure you can get them because the car companies will take your money and give you the things you want uh one thing about well i lock the windows the windows are not one touch they are one continuous touch but i like to think if you own a pickup truck you have a job that requires a lot more physical activity than mine does and you can probably handle that kind of thing as expected you have an arm rest it's got a cup holder in it some of the leather right around here is not fitting that great i'm not sure if that is a ford thing or a roush thing but it's not uh roush also gives you a gear bag they store under the seat and inside it are jumper cables a tow strap some ratchet straps and working gloves which i think that whole thing is pretty nice thing to offer actually so the 511 tactical edition is part performance package and then part like aesthetics first responder gear other stuff package which we'll get into in a little bit one of those things is a safe in the center console so if you're a police officer swat or i don't know any
