The New iPhone 10 Clear Case: A First-Party Option for Protection and Style
Apple recently announced and released its first-ever clear case for the iPhone 10, which is now available in stores. The case was initially scheduled to be released months ago, but it has finally hit the market just in time for the holiday season. This new case offers a unique blend of protection and style, making it an attractive option for those who want to show off their phone's color while also safeguarding it against damage.
The Case Itself: A Firm and Protective Option
When I first took the case out of the box and held it in my hand, I was surprised by its firmness. Unlike many third-party clear cases that are typically rubbery and flimsy, this Apple-designed case is much harder than I expected. This firmer material will provide excellent protection against drops and other forms of accidental damage. The lip of the case extends all the way around the phone, except for the bottom portion, which helps prevent the display from coming into contact with the surface when the phone is laid face down. This design also allows for a more seamless user experience, as the bottom lip is left open to facilitate gestures and navigation.
A Nice Touch by Apple: The Bottom Lip
One feature that I particularly appreciate about this case is the thoughtful design of the bottom lip. By leaving it open, Apple has understood that this could potentially interfere with the user experience. However, the company has chosen to prioritize functionality over aesthetics, resulting in a case that is both protective and practical. This attention to detail demonstrates Apple's commitment to creating products that are not only stylish but also well-designed.
Using the Case with a Screen Protector
I was using a screen protector on my phone when I first started testing the clear case. To my surprise, it did not seem to be bothered by the case at all, apart from one minor issue - the screen protector appeared to be slightly more noticeable than usual due to the transparency of the case. However, this is a relatively minor concern, and overall, the case has performed well with my screen protector in place.
The Case's Design and Fit
The clear case fits perfectly around the iPhone 10, with precise cutouts for the buttons and camera on the back. The material is smooth to the touch and has a sleek, minimalist design that complements the phone's appearance. One area where I do have some reservations is regarding the firmness of the volume and power buttons, which can feel too hard and lack tactile feedback when pressed.
A Price Tag That May Be Hard to Justify
Despite its excellent protection and stylish design, the iPhone 10 clear case has a price tag that may be difficult for many consumers to justify. With third-party cases available at significantly lower prices, it's unclear whether this first-party Apple case is worth the extra cost. However, if you're willing to spend more money for a premium product made by a reputable brand like Apple, then this case might be worth considering.
Future Considerations: Yellow Discoloration from the Sun
One potential concern that I have regarding this clear case is whether it may suffer from yellow discoloration over time, especially when exposed to direct sunlight. While the case is currently transparent and does not exhibit any noticeable signs of discoloration, it's difficult to predict how it will hold up in the long term. As with many new products, only time will tell if this concern becomes a reality.
Conclusion
The iPhone 10 clear case is an attractive option for those who want both protection and style from their phone. While it may come at a higher price point than some third-party alternatives, its premium design and quality materials make it a compelling choice for Apple fans. As with any new product, there are potential drawbacks to consider - including the possibility of yellow discoloration over time - but overall, this case seems like a solid addition to the iPhone 10 lineup.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone dan with MacRumors and in this video we're going to quickly check out the new iPhone 10 our clear case that was just released this past Friday Apple announced this clear case for the iPhone 10 are a few months ago and after a little delay the clear case is now readily available just in time for the holiday season so if you're planning to pick up a colorful iPhone 10 are you're going to want that protection for your iPhone but of course you're gonna want to show off the color of the phone Apple gets that and they came up with their first ever clear case and this is the only first-party case that's available for the iPhone 10 arm the first thing that stood out to me after I took it out of the box and got the case in hand is that it's much more firm than I was expecting having used other third-party clear cases before most of them are pretty rubbery and flimsy but this case is much harder than you might think this is going to be great for protection against drops and after you slide the iPhone 10 are inside the case you'll notice that the lip does extend all the way around the case except for the bottom portion of the phone this lip prevents your phone's display from actually touching the surface when laying face down which also helps out a bit in case of a drop face first the bottom is left open presumably for a better experience when using gestures to navigate through your phone's UI and I actually really like that it's a nice touch by Apple understanding that the bottom lip could interfere with the user experience one thing I do want to point out is that I am using a screen protector on my phone and it doesn't seem to be bothered by the clear case other than that the case obviously fits perfectly around the iPhone 10 are with the cutouts perfectly in place around the buttons and the camera on the back one thing that I'm not quite a fan of is the feeling you get when you actually press the volume or power buttons they just feel way too firm and not as tactile as one would like I'm not a big fan when cases have firm buttons and offer a very small amount of feedback when pressing them it's also kind of harder to use the ringer button as the cutout is so small around it then I basically have to try and get a fingernail inside there just to toggle it back and forth the iPhone 10 our clear case retails for 39 dollars which is probably not worth the price tag considering the amount of Cheaper third-party cases that are on the market but if you want a first-party case made from Apple for your iPhone this is unfortunately your only option for the 10r it does a great job at offering some protection for your device and showing off all of the cool colors that are available for the 10r one thing the checking on in the near future would be if this case suffers from any yellow discoloration from the Sun but right now since this case is brand new that's obviously going to be hard for me to say but
