Five Favorite iOS 12 Features: A Closer Look at What Makes it Stand Out
As I take a brief look at five of my favorite iOS 12 features, I have to say that one of the most exciting ones is how this update makes devices feel like new again. Especially for those with older iOS hardware such as the iPhone SC, iOS 12 is a game-changer. The device feels like it's been reborn, and it's not just because of the sleek new design that Apple has always promised but failed to deliver on with updates before. No, this time around, it's all about the performance and animations.
With iOS 12, I've noticed a significant improvement in animation speed, which is something that I've encountered lags with even on newer hardware. Switching between apps or swiping through the multitasking switch feels like a breeze now, thanks to the faster performance. It's not just about quick bursts of speed either; it's also about the overall responsiveness and smoothness of the interface. Every day, we use our devices for basic tasks like switching between apps or checking notifications, and with iOS 12, those tasks feel so much more efficient.
One feature that I've particularly noticed is how much better group notifications are on this update. Prior to iOS 12, I had always found the notification system to be inferior compared to Android devices. However, with this latest update, Apple has finally caught up. Group notifications allow me to expand and collapse them at will, making it easier to manage notifications without feeling overwhelmed. Moreover, I can interact with individual notifications or a group of multiple notifications all in one go, which is incredibly convenient.
Another feature that I've grown to love on iOS 12 is the trackpad mode for non-3D touch devices like the iPhone SE. By simply long pressing on the spacebar, I get precise cursor movement, which makes navigating my device so much more intuitive. It's amazing how a simple tweak can make such a big difference in user experience.
In addition to these features, iOS 12 has also simplified the process for force-closing apps. Prior to this update, I had always found it necessary to tap and hold on an app card in the multitasking switcher before I could swipe up to close or tap the X in the upper left-hand corner of the app. However, with iOS 12, things are back to basics – a simple swipe up is all it takes to force close your apps.
Last but certainly not least, there's security code autofill, which has been a wonderful addition to iOS 12. When I receive a security code via SMS, instead of having to type it out myself, this feature automatically fills in the code for me as an autofill option in my quicktype keyboard. This means that all it takes is a simple tap to autofill my security code, making it much more convenient and less prone to errors.
In conclusion, these are just five of my favorite features from iOS 12, but there are many other exciting updates and changes that have made this update stand out from its predecessors.
