Enabling Focus Mode on Your iPhone for a Cleaner Home Screen Experience
Have you ever wished to have a clutter-free home screen on your iPhone? You can achieve this by enabling Focus mode, which allows you to select specific apps that will be visible on your home screen when this feature is enabled. To do this, go to Settings > Control Center and toggle on the switch next to "Focus." This will open up the Focus settings page where you can choose from various focus modes.
To access the Focus settings page, open the Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of your screen or double-tapping the Home button. Then, tap on the Focus mode icon (it looks like a clock) and select "Enable." You will then be asked to allow notifications from certain apps. Select any app you'd like to see notifications from when you have this mode enabled, click Allow, and then click Done. You're now ready to go.
Next, you need to decide which apps will be visible on your home screen when Focus mode is enabled. Go to Home Screen and toggle off the switch next to "Hide Badges" so that notification badges aren't displayed on your apps. Then, tap on Custom Pages and select the page that you want to be visible when Focus mode is enabled. You can choose from three pages, and for this example, we'll make only one page visible.
Once you've selected the page you want to be visible, click Done. Now, when you enable Focus mode and toggle it on in the Control Center, your chosen page will appear on your home screen. To access Focus mode from the Home Screen, open the Settings app, go to Control Center, and toggle on the switch next to "Focus." Then, tap on the Focus mode icon and select Enable.
Another way to enable Focus mode is by using a Quick Action. This method allows you to enable Focus mode directly from the Home Screen without having to go into the Control Center or Settings app. To do this, go to Home Screen and tap on the Focus mode icon (it looks like a clock). You will then be asked to allow notifications from certain apps. Select any app you'd like to see notifications from when you have this mode enabled, click Allow, and then click Done.
To set up your Quick Action, go back to Home Screen and long-press on the Focus mode icon until it starts jiggling. Then, tap on the "Edit" button in the top-right corner of the screen. Select "Add Action" and choose "Focus Mode." Tap on "Add" to save your new action.
Now that you have a Quick Action set up, go back to Home Screen and long-press on the Focus mode icon until it starts jiggling. Then, tap on the "Edit" button in the top-right corner of the screen and select "Focus Mode." Tap on "Select Action" and choose your newly created action.
Using this method allows you to enable Focus mode directly from the Home Screen without having to go into the Control Center or Settings app.
To make the most out of Focus mode, you'll want to customize it to suit your needs. One way to do this is by hiding apps from the initial view on the home screen. To do this, head over to the Screen Time settings and enable the Content Restrictions feature. Once you enter the passcode, tap on Allow Apps and select the apps you'd like to hide. For example, if you want to completely hide your camera app, select it here.
When you re-enable Focus mode after hiding these apps, they won't be searchable through the OS, and they'll disappear from the home screen. This feature is especially useful for parents who want to restrict their child's access to certain apps or social media platforms.
However, there's another method to hide apps that might come in handy for those who have third-party applications like social media apps that you'd like to permanently hide. To do this, go into the app settings and enable Content Restrictions. Then, select "Apps" and choose the age limit. For example, if you want to hide all social media apps for users under 18, select "Age 9" here.
Keep in mind that when you disable Focus mode or re-enable it after hiding your apps, they might rearrange themselves on your home screen again. This can be a bit inconvenient, so keep this in mind before using this method.
Finally, if you want to hide an app based on age but don't have any third-party applications that meet the criteria, you can still do so by selecting "No Apps" or "Don't Allow Apps" when re-enabling Focus mode. This will hide all apps from view except for stock Apple apps and kid-friendly apps like Disney+.
