How To - Load a Custom ROM on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G

How to Load a Custom ROM on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G HTC Glacer

Before you begin this procedure, it is essential to complete two previous steps: our "how to Temporary root your phone" and "how to Permanent root your phone." Once these steps are completed, you can proceed with loading a custom ROM on your T-Mobile MyTouch 4G HTC Glacer.

First, open the Market app on your phone and search for "ROM Manager." Click on the free version and install it. Wait for the installation process to complete.

Once the ROM Manager is installed, click on it to open it. The next step is to hit the "Menu" button, then select "Settings," followed by "Erase Recovery." Then, press the "Back" button. After that, you will see a pop-up asking if you want to flash Clockwork Mod recovery. Click "Allow" and wait for it to flash.

Next, click "Reboot into Recovery" and then "Okay." If you see a screen with an exclamation point on your phone, it means the custom recovery image did not flash properly. In this case, you need to go back into ROM Manager and hit "Flash Recovery" again. You may need to do this a couple of times for the recovery image to stick.

Now that the recovery image is installed, click "Reboot System" and continue with the process. You can now choose a custom ROM from our ROM section, select your specific phone model (in this case, the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G), and browse through the list of available ROMs.

Choose the Iced Glacier ROM and click on it to download the latest version. Make sure to decide between an unthemed or themed ROM. Once you have downloaded the ROM, go back to your computer and save the file as a .zip file without unzipping it. Now, plug in your phone via USB, connect it as a disk drive, delete any existing files on the SD card, and drag the zip file to the root of your SD card.

The next step is to boot into recovery mode manually, as we don't trust ROM Manager to do it correctly. First, click "Reboot" in ROM Manager to enter recovery mode. Once you are in the recovery menu, press the "Volume Down" button until you see a menu with various options. Use the "Power" button to navigate and select "Back." This will take you back to the main recovery menu.

The first thing you need to do in recovery mode is to backup your current ROM. Wait for the backup process to complete, which may take a while. Once the backup is complete, go to the "Wipe Data" option and press the "Power" button to select it. Follow the prompts to confirm that you want to wipe data and factory reset.

After the data is wiped, go to the "Install zip from SD card" option. Select "Choose zip file from external storage" and navigate to the location of your Iced Glacier ROM. Click on the ROM file to select it and then press the "Power" button to confirm installation.

Once the installation is complete, click "Reboot System" to restart your phone. After rebooting, you will be booted into your new custom ROM. If you want to load a different custom ROM, simply go back to our ROM section, find another ROM, and follow the same steps as before.

It's always a good idea to backup your data before flashing a new ROM, just in case anything goes wrong during the process. This will ensure that you don't lose any important data or settings. With these steps, you should be able to successfully load a custom ROM on your T-Mobile MyTouch 4G HTC Glacer and enjoy the benefits of customizing your phone's performance and appearance.
