BMW i3 + In-N-Out Burger Test Drive (CES 2014)

**The World's Most Advanced Electric Vehicle**

As we take a look at the latest electric vehicle on display, it's clear that the focus is on sustainability and innovation. The car features as much renewable material as possible, with eucalyptus wood used in the front of the vehicle. This open-pore wood doesn't require any chemicals or finishes, which reduces its environmental impact.

The interior of the car is just as impressive, with a material made from recycled plastic bottles being used for the doors. The interior space is equivalent to that of a BMW 3 Series, offering a reasonable amount of room and plenty of headroom. Even at 6 ft tall, we found the car's interior to be spacious and comfortable.

One of the standout features of this vehicle is its advanced technology. It includes a Park Assist feature, which uses sensors to identify suitable parking spots in urban environments. This means that drivers can simply select "left" or "right" on their touchscreen to park the car into the chosen spot. However, what's truly impressive is the car's ability to detect potential hazards and alert the driver before they even need to intervene.

The vehicle's frame is constructed from a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum, making it strong yet lightweight. This reduces the environmental impact of the car while also improving its efficiency. The use of renewable materials throughout the body has been carefully considered, with the goal of minimizing waste and reducing the car's carbon footprint.

As we take a closer look at the vehicle, it's clear that attention to detail has been paid to every aspect of its design and construction. From the eucalyptus wood trim to the recycled plastic doors, every element has been chosen for its sustainability and practicality.

But what really sets this car apart is its silence. We're lucky enough to be standing right next to it in a crowded convention center, yet we can barely hear anything other than our own breathing. It's a testament to the advanced soundproofing technology that's gone into the vehicle.

**A Closer Look**

One of the features that caught our attention was the proximity sensors surrounding the car. These sensors are able to detect potential hazards and alert the driver, making it easier and safer to park in urban environments. We were also impressed by the interior space of the car, which is equivalent to that of a BMW 3 Series.

When we got back into the car after stepping out onto the sidewalk, we were struck by its sheer size and presence. The vehicle's frame is constructed from a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum, making it strong yet lightweight. This reduces the environmental impact of the car while also improving its efficiency.

The interior space is just as impressive as the exterior design, with a material made from recycled plastic bottles being used for the doors. The dashboard and seats are designed to be comfortable and ergonomic, offering a sense of luxury and refinement that's typical of high-end vehicles.

**A Unique Design**

One of the most striking features of this car is its unique design. The entire body is constructed from carbon fiber, which gives it a sleek and aerodynamic appearance. When we asked one of the designers about their inspiration for the vehicle, they explained that they wanted to create a car that was both functional and beautiful.

The eucalyptus wood trim adds a touch of natural elegance to the interior, while the recycled plastic doors provide a clever solution to reducing waste. The advanced technology features, such as Park Assist and proximity sensors, make this car feel truly cutting-edge.

As we took a closer look at the vehicle, it became clear that attention to detail has been paid to every aspect of its design and construction. From the eucalyptus wood trim to the recycled plastic doors, every element has been chosen for its sustainability and practicality.

**A Price Tag**

The price tag on this car is a staggering $441,000. However, it's worth noting that as technology continues to improve and prices come down, electric vehicles like this one may become more accessible to a wider range of buyers.

For now, the vehicle remains a showcase for the latest advancements in sustainable design and cutting-edge technology. Whether you're a car enthusiast or simply someone who cares about the environment, this vehicle is sure to impress.

sir that's what you need to do when you take a brand new unreleased car out for a test drive right now it looks like we're going out to the desert or something 3 hours that it yeah and how many miles 100 100 miles and it the car drives nice the car feels really uh responsive I guess that's an electric thing this is my first time driving an all electric car so we have a couple of displays up here this one is dedicated to to how much range you have remaining you can see it says 41 Mi there the car can do between 80 and 100 Mil depending on conditions whether or not you're using air conditioning and stuff like that uh it can recharge then in 3 hours uh so a fairly quick recharge I believe on 240 volts in cooperation with charge point so if you have a charging station on the charge Point Network near you you can obviously use that to recharge as well information system here is controlled down here rather than be touch which kind of makes sense because this is where your hand naturally is in this location and this is a bit of a reach and so by turning this uh dial here I can I can effect changes up on the display here and you have a a d-pad as well as a menu button this menu button will bring up you know multimedia stuff navigation Bluetooth for your phone Etc and you just click down to select a particular one and I thought it was pretty cool when the hotels actually showed up you can see them over there on the left hand side if we go down this strip it'll probably be even better looking uh just waiting for the world's longest light the whole car the the whole concept here is to have as renewable materials as possible in use so the wood up here in the front he said that was eucalyptus wood right yeah and it's an open pore wood so it doesn't need a lot of chemicals or finishes on top of it same thing on the doors this material over here was uh made out of recycled plastic bottles there's a lot of tech inside of here we were told that there's going to be an option for a park assist which is kind of on on another level at least for what I've heard of a park assist feature where it if you're in an urban environment it'll actually scope out W be parking spots on the sides of the road if it sees one that is sufficient in size for this car to fit it'll notify you at which you can either select left or right and enable the auto park or park assist feature so that it can park itself into that spot but that's kind of the a next level as far as I have heard the part of it where it's going to be able to identify the spot prior to you needing to to see it or pick it or whatever which is part of the battle when you're trying to drive through an urban environment is seeing where those spots even exist so yeah the car is going to be $441,000 to start and then of course if you trick it out with everything you can add it'll go up from there obviously there's more and more sort of activity in the all electric space and it appears to be bringing prices down but it in terms of fit and finish and quality inside uh it feels like a BMW the Interior Space see if you can show them the back seat like yeah I was told that the Interior Space is equivalent to uh a 3 Series BMW so a reasonable amount of interior space and a lot of Headroom like I'm 6 ft tall and I'm nowhere close to that headliner there and and the window there actually gives you a perception of even more space so you don't feel cramped in here at all even if you're a a slightly bigger person when we were back at the In-N-Out Burger we got all kinds of people paying attention to the car and seeing it and and being like what is that it looks so unusual ual Etc mostly like really positive feedback the entire frame of the vehicle is actually constructed using carbon fiber and aluminum so most of the body is carbon fibd and back at the convention center you can actually see just the body the frame identified and it's amazing how much of it actually is carbon fiber and that's been decided on they've chosen carbon fiber for a couple of different reasons it's strong while still being lightweight so it gives the car a a better level of efficiency than if they had G with traditional materials uh and then on top of that it's a relatively renewable material oh another thing I forgot to mention that happened uh when I first got into the car was somebody pulled up really tight behind me or was trying to get in and it it was identified on the screen that there was an object really close to me so it has proximity sensors all around it and it was actually really cool and really responsive as soon as I pulled away it removed that sort of warning so it didn't need to be prompted like I didn't need to turn it on or it wasn't only when I was in Reverse or anything like that it's the same interior space as the 3 Series with a much shorter wheel base because uh you know the volume is up and out that's nice take a picture with the doors open that's a cool shot this car is silent does anybody else realize how silent this is right now silence Squarespace apps for Mobile offer up some of the amazing features that you're used to on the web interface except
