LG's Newest Phone: A Big Premium Device with Dual Screen Capabilities
Hey everybody, it's Lin from Cena and I'm here with a new LG V60 Thin Q5G. It's LG's newest phone that was supposed to be announced at MWC before the tech show got canceled, but we have it here now. This big premium phone is paired with a dual screen accessory and is poised to go against the Samsung Galaxy S20.
LG released a similar dual screen device last year with the LG V50 and G8X. So, it's committing to this design again, but investing more in 5G and other camera features. The V60 has a big 6.8-inch OLED display and the accessory case basically doubles the screen size by taking advantage of this feature. However, getting used to this accessory requires some time, even for someone like me who had a chance to use it last year when it first came out.
Once you get the hang of it, you can multitask on both screens or expand certain apps across the whole thing like a tablet. Keep in mind that there will be a big hinge in the middle and it will obstruct your view, which is different from having a seamless folding experience like Motorola RAZR or Z Flip. Additionally, you can use the case as a kickstand and integrate the second screen with a gamepad, just like last year's G8X.
However, I have to say that the case adds a lot of bulk to the phone, and I'm not really a fan of those ridges. The way the case will be bundled with the purchase of the phone varies from carrier to carrier. Last year, for US carriers, it was included for free but only for a limited time, so keep an eye out for that.
The phone features two rear cameras: a standard 64-megapixel camera and a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens. There's also a time-of-flight camera for AR and depth sensing applications like LG's new native 3D photo effect. This allows you to take portrait pictures with a moving sense of depth, as well as record 8K video and zoom up to 10x. Samsung's latest Galaxy line can also capture footage in 8K but has a higher zoom capacity on the front.
The V60 also supports 5G deployment, which started in 2019, and more will take place throughout this year and next. This means that even if you don't have 5G in your area now, it could come later. Other features of the V60 include a 5-ampere hour battery, water-resistant design, and perhaps most standout of all, a headphone jack. Yes, unlike most high-end phones available today, the V60 still has that rare audio port, allowing you to plug in your beloved wired headphones.
LG hasn't announced availability dates and prices just yet, but they do say that the V60 will be cheaper than the Galaxy S20, which currently starts at $999. Whether that means the phone is priced at $998 or $100 less, we don't know, but based on last year's G8X costing around $780, it's likely to start around that price.
