BOOKS I'VE READ IN 2017 SO FAR!!

**Five Favorite Books of 2017**

As I reflect on my reading journey so far this year, I've narrowed down my list to five books that have left a significant impact on me. While it's challenging to choose just a few favorites, these books have resonated with me in unique ways, and I'm excited to share them with you.

**1. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab**

My first favorite book of 2017 is undoubtedly "A Darker Shade of Magic" by V.E. Schwab. This book has been a standout in the Shades of Magic trilogy, which has captivated me with its rich fantasy world and intricate magic system. I've always been fascinated by the concept of different Londons, each with its own unique magical properties, and this series has only deepened my appreciation for it. The character development in this book is exceptional, with a focus on Kell, the protagonist, whose struggles to balance his duties as an ambassador between worlds will resonate with anyone who's ever felt like they're caught between competing loyalties. If you're looking for a fantasy series that explores the complexities of power, loyalty, and identity, I highly recommend "A Darker Shade of Magic".

**2. Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella**

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors, and her books always deliver on wit, charm, and relatable characters. My next favorite book of 2017 is "Not So Perfect Life" by Sophie Kinsella, which I devoured in just a few sittings. This audiobook was a particular treat for me, as it's one of the first times I've listened to an entire book without being distracted by anything else. The story follows Joanna, a young woman struggling to find her place in the world and figure out what she wants to do with her life. I adored this book because it's so refreshingly honest about the challenges we face as adults – from career uncertainty to relationships – and offers a healthy dose of humor and wit to navigate these tough topics. If you're looking for a light, engaging read that will make you laugh and nod your head in recognition, "Not So Perfect Life" is an excellent choice.

**3. Roar by K.C. Cari**

When I first started reading "Roar" by K.C. Cari, I had no idea what to expect. This book has since become one of my favorites of the year, and I'm so glad I took a chance on it. The story follows Akira, a young woman with storm-birthed magic who must navigate a world filled with conflict and danger. What struck me most about this book was its unique take on the traditional fantasy genre – the way Cari subverts expectations and explores themes of power, identity, and community in ways that feel both authentic and thought-provoking. The romance in the book is also exceptional, adding depth and complexity to the narrative without overpowering it. If you're looking for a fantasy series with a strong focus on character development, world-building, and emotional resonance, I highly recommend "Roar".

**4. Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare**

My next favorite book of 2017 is "Lord of Shadows" by Cassandra Clare, which is undoubtedly one of the best books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles series to date. As a long-time fan of this series, I was excited to dive into the sequel to "City of Lost Souls", and I'm thrilled to report that it did not disappoint. The world-building in this book is exceptional, with Clare expanding on the mythology of the Shadowhunters and their allies in ways that feel both exciting and grounded. The characters are well-developed and complex, particularly Alec Lightwood, whose struggles with his own identity and loyalties make for a compelling narrative. If you're looking for a fantasy series with a rich history, engaging characters, and plenty of action, the Shadowhunter Chronicles are an excellent choice.

**5. Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman**

Finally, my fifth favorite book of 2017 is "Illuminae" by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, which I'm late to the party on but am so glad I finally joined. This book has been a game-changer for me in terms of its unique format – told through a series of documents, dossiers, and chat logs, it's an absolute page-turner that kept me hooked from start to finish. The story follows Kady, a young woman living on a space station threatened by the corrupt megacorporation Meyer Linge, and Ezra, a fugitive who becomes her unlikely ally. I loved this book because of its fast-paced action, witty dialogue, and thought-provoking exploration of power dynamics, artificial intelligence, and corporate greed. If you're looking for a sci-fi series that's both entertaining and intellectually stimulating, "Illuminae" is an excellent choice.

These five books have been some of the highlights of my reading journey so far this year, each offering something unique in terms of world-building, character development, and emotional resonance. Whether you're a fan of fantasy, romance, or science fiction, there's something on this list for everyone – so if you're looking to discover new authors or series, I highly recommend giving one (or all) of these books a try!
