Hands on with Huawei Mate 10 Pro Desktop Mode

One of Our Favorite Features: Desktop Mode on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is one of our favorite features, and it's its ability to plug into an external monitor that makes it stand out. This feature allows you to use your phone as a desktop computing device, providing a great experience for those who want to work or browse on a larger screen.

To take advantage of this feature, all you need is a USB Type-C to HDMI cable and the setup is incredibly simple. You plug the HDMI cable into the back of your external monitor, take the USB Type-C cable and plug it in to your phone, and voila! The phone vibrates to let you know that it's linked up. Then, all you need to do is pull down the menu from the top of the phone, tap "Flat," which tells the phone it's time to connect to your external monitor.

You can then change the source and get back your complete Huawei phone experience on a desktop monitor. However, if you don't have a keyboard or mouse, don't worry – it's really easy to do right from your phone. You'll have a further menu option that gives you a virtual touch pad like a mouse to control your pointer on screen. It's an incredible feature that makes working and browsing on a larger screen feel incredibly natural.

To give you an idea of how this works, let's take a look at what happens when you open Chrome. As soon as you open the app, you'll get a keyboard on your phone ready to type whatever you want into the screen. It's really easy to use – just double tap and you've got your phone gallery, which you can swipe through like you normally would.

But that's not all – it's also incredibly easy to shift around screens with two taps to grab onto a window and shift it around even at the bottom of the screen. You'll find all of your phone information, including the battery percentage left, Android menu keys, and open tabs, down here at the bottom of the screen. And if you need more details about your phone, just tap next to the tab – it's ready to open up.

One of the best things about this feature is that it's really affordable, with prices starting under $20 apart from the monitor itself. We think this is a fantastic feature that will benefit a great deal of people who buy the already excellent Huawei Mate 10 Pro. In fact, we're so excited about this feature that we wanted to share it with you in full – and we hope you'll give it a try for yourself.
