The Big News from BMW: Introducing the X1 Concept
The BMW stand at the Paris motor show is abuzz with excitement, as the company unveiled its latest small SUV concept, the X1. Joining us now to discuss this innovative vehicle is Adrien van Hyon, the man responsible for its design. Mr. Van Hyon, thank you for taking the time to speak with us today.
I'd like to start by addressing a question that's been on everyone's mind: what do we make of the X1? Some might say it's not exactly pretty, but I'm here to tell you that I think it's quite handsome. As the designer behind this concept, I can assure you that our team has worked tirelessly to create an SUV that is both sleek and elegant. Given that it's the smallest SUV in our lineup, we aimed to make it look friendlier than some of its competitors. After all, beauty is subjective, and we don't have to please everyone in the automotive market.
The X1 concept embodies a perfect blend of what people have come to expect from BMW's X vehicles – a sense of robustness, toughness, and capability that can handle any terrain. At the same time, it combines this rugged spirit with the agile, youthful, and fresh character that has defined our One Series line. This fusion of qualities results in a unique vehicle that is both familiar and innovative. We're confident that people will appreciate the X1's design, but we also recognize that it may not be to everyone's taste.
Now that we have this concept on the market, some might wonder if there are any changes that could be made before the car goes into production next year. I'm happy to assure you that this concept is very close to its final form. We're making only a few minor adjustments here and there, but overall, what people see today is what they can expect from the X1 in 2024.
One aspect of the X1 that's currently shrouded in mystery is its interior. Unfortunately, the windows are blacked out, so we can't show you just yet. However, I can tell you that our team has worked hard to create a modern and BMW-typical interior that will make drivers feel comfortable and engaged. We're excited to share this with the world soon.
Finally, let's talk about who these new buyers for the X1 are likely to be. Are they enthusiasts of BMW's existing SUVs looking to upgrade to a 4x4 model? Or are they coming from outside our brand entirely? Our goal is to attract customers from different backgrounds and demographics, as we did with the One Series. In fact, over 70% of our One Series buyers come from outside the BMW family, which has been a great success for us. We're hopeful that this will be the case for the X1 as well.
And that's all from Mr. Van Hyon for now. Thank you again for joining us to talk about this exciting new vehicle from BMW.
