Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2018 360 degree test drive _ Mat Watson Reviews

Welcome to a 360° Passenger Ride Video: Exploring the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

As you move your mobile phone around and look up and down, you'll be able to see all the way around the cabin of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. What we want to do today is experience this plug-in hybrid in action, so please put it into drive. As a plug-in hybrid, I can drive along in electric power alone, and it's nice and quiet - just the sound of the motor humming away.

As you look down, you'll see that there's a button that allows me to switch into EV mode. When I press this button, the car will only run on electric power, and it's really relaxing to drive in this setting. The electric motor has a nice nudge to it, and it feels quite responsive. It's good for driving around town, as it's quiet and smooth.

Now, if you look down at the controls, you'll see that there are some buttons and knobs that allow me to adjust the settings. As I lift off the accelerator pedal, the car will try to recoup energy under braking - it's like a dynamo feeding power back into the batteries. This is regenerative braking mode, which helps to recharge the battery pack.

If you look down at the infotainment system, you'll see that the graphics are a bit fuzzy. The buttons are small and fiddly, and it's not easy to use - it beeps a lot, and I have to search for the navigation button. It's not my favorite thing about this car.

As we drive along, you can see out the window that there's a decent view ahead. However, there is a bit of a pillar in the back that can make it difficult when driving at junctions. But don't worry - with an extra little window at the back of the car, you'll be able to see what's going on behind you.

Now, let's put the car into B mode - this is regenerative braking mode. When I lift off the accelerator pedal, the car will try to recoup energy under braking, and it works like a dynamo to feed power back into the batteries. This is really effective at slowing me down, and it feels quite smooth.

As we drive along in electric power alone, you can see that this car is quite heavy - but don't worry, the low center of gravity helps with handling. However, if I go too fast, the car starts to push wide in a turn - so I need to be careful not to overdo it.

One of the best things about this car is how cheap it is to run. We've been averaging just 69mpg on electric power alone, which isn't too bad considering it's a plug-in hybrid. Mitsubishi says that the car should do 156mpg in ideal conditions, but even that seems optimistic to me.

Overall, I think this is an excellent car - it's quiet, smooth, and easy to drive. While the infotainment system could be improved, everything else about this car is top-notch. And with its affordable running costs, it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new vehicle.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome to a 360° passenger Ride video in the Mitsubishi Outland of pH so what I want you to do is move your mobile phone around look up and down and you'll be able to look all the way around the cabin so put it into drive and because it's a plug-in hybrid I can drive along in electric power alone like this and it's nice and silent I can even if you look down here press this button to go into EV mode and then it just holds it in electric only and it's actually really relaxing they're good to drive around town when you have it in that setting it's quiet it's relaxing and it's quite nippy the pickup from the electric motor so there's one at the front and one at the back is actually quite good I'm actually now going to turn that off so it'll kick the engine in when I floor it look look down here see same power and you can hear the engine now spoed up to provide added assistance however if you want to you can drive at speeds of just over 70 mph in electric power alone though you won't be able to go too far and even if you're careful you're going to get about 20 miles out of it on a full electric charge good thing is it doesn't take too long to charge up so you can do it normal 3pin wall socket you can do it in 5 hours if you got a rapid charger you can do it to 80% in I think it's like 25 minutes so have a look around the car see what you think of it interior design it's all right the quality it's okay it's it's nothing special the infotainment systems I look down there at the infotainment system system it's not great it's not great at all I don't like it the buttons are small and fiddly it's it's not very easy to use and it beeps a lot and where's the where's the nav the nav there it is see that little button for the nav and then ah no it's it's not the greatest thing to use in the world I'm telling you terms of visibility when you set by look you have a look out the window you can see that it's quite a decent view out the view at the back is all right as well yeah there's a bit of a pillar back have a look at that which is a bit of a pain when putting out Junctions but it's it's not that bad actually not that bad at all cuz you got the extra little window at the very back of the car I want to show you this right I can put this car look down here put this car into B mode so that's regenerative braking mode and what that does is when I lift off the accelerator the cars then tries to recoup energy under braking so it works like a Dynamo to feed power back into the batteries to recharge them in fact when I actually break using the brake pedal the first bit of braking does that as well and it can make the brakes feel a bit a bit weird can make them feel a bit weird these paddles are not for Gears cuz there's only well it's got a CVT gearbox a constantly variable transmission what these do is Alter the effect of that regenerative breaking so you can effectively if' got in B5 which is the strongest I can accelerate and then pretty much slow down the car just by lifting off the accelerator a bit like driving a bumper car at the fair and it's it's quite easy then to just drive around town in terms of the handling well this is quite a heavy car because you got a load of batteries they're low down in the floor so they're underneath the car does help the center of gravity but it does make it feel a little bit ponderous you can't go too fast otherwise it starts to push wide in a turn this car but it it does an all right job of of getting you about and it can be super cheap to run if you can charge it at work or you can charge it at home and you got short Journeys you hardly have to go to the petrol station actually I mean we were averaging just what 69 mes per gallon something like that which isn't too bad in the real world I mean Mitsubishi says it should do 156 but that's really optimistic if you ask me so there you go hope you enjoy this 360 degree passenger Ride video and spin your phone around again have another look around the cabin and stuff and yeah like I say it's all right stuff like this actually look down that looks a bit bit crap but hey there we go hope you
