DOLLAR TREE DIY _ FALL PUMPKIN MAKEOVER! 2019

Converting Dollar Tree Pumpkins into Unique Decorations

Today I am going to be working on converting these already decorated Dollar Tree pumpkins from the Dollar Tree into my own pumpkin design. I actually saw some of these on Etsy and I wanted to just kind of browse through Etsy order some fall stuff and I came across some of these pumpkins and thought I can definitely try this out with Dollar Tree materials.

The One Thing that Sets Dollar Tree Apart

So, one thing I will say that separates you know Dollar Tree from you know other decor places is you're kind of limited to size. They still have gorgeous big huge decorative pumpkins on Etsy that you just necessarily can't always make with Dollar Tree stuff but I wanted to show you guys this variation using these pumpkins.

Preparing the Pumpkins

Now what I did was I removed all of the excess material that I wasn't going to use and I flipped the pumpkin around. This way is just there, it's very little effort in making this over because the back is a perfect blank canvas and it just soaks up the paint so nicely and the paint dries very quickly.

Playing with Colors

I really wanted to play with colors I don't necessarily use so I went with this Tiffany blue but the options are endless here. I got my paints at Hobby Lobby but they were on sale and can be very comparable to Dollar Tree prices and the paint is really stellar and it's chalk paint so it looks really cute too.

Adding a Pop of Color

And also, the other great thing is because the other side is originally orange the sides of the pumpkins you can see that orange peeking through so it's really pretty. So again just very minimal effort very easy DIY I feel like anybody can do and then the next thing that I did to kind of age the look of the paint was I added water to a dry cloth.

Creating an Age Effect

And this is just one of the easier methods I use I really really do try to keep all of my DIYs for you guys very low scale so that is just easy and it's not frustrating to do. So, this was just my method of kind of giving it a little bit of extra character and depth to the color.

Adding Embellishments

And then I painted the top of the pumpkin and I'm gonna repeat the steps for my other one. And I wanted to show you guys this one's my favorite and I added polka dots so again there's the option to do whatever you want to your pumpkin you can add words you can get stencil if you don't feel like you're good at hand painting your own words you could even print something off of the internet and Google Images and maybe Mod Podge it to your pumpkin.

Getting Creative with Embellishments

So, I just took black chalk paint that I had already lying around the house and I used a wine cork as my method to create circles. So, I just found something in my junk drawer and it worked out really well. I will say that if you're going with a polka dot method I think starting your very first dot in the center and then kind of work your way out is gonna be the best method to kind of make them look evenly spaced but that's pretty much it.

Adding Final Touches

And then, your final step is to add your embellishment this is where you can just go wild. You can even do ribbons instead of floral I wanted to make my pumpkins so so gorgeous and yeah so I hope that you guys see the complete potential and making over this a Dollar Tree pumpkin it really is cute and it's self where it says thankful and blessed and it has the galvanized leaf and things like that but to show you guys how you can still take that decor and turn it into something even more beautiful.

other great thing is because the other side is originally orange the sides of the pumpkins you can see that orange peeking through so it's really pretty so again just very minimal effort very easy DIY I feel like anybody can do and then the next thing that I did to kind of age the look of the paint was I added water to a dry cloth and you want to do this pretty quickly because again that paint tends to dry super-quick on the back of that plywood or whatever kind of wood this is and you just want to just run your cloth through and strokes that you just like and you just gonna have to eyeball this and determine what you like there's a lots of different ways actually to make something look at aged and or antiqued and this is just one of the easier methods I I really really do try to keep all of my DIYs for you guys very low scale so that is just easy and it's not frustrating to do so this was just my method of kind of giving it a little bit of extra character and depth to the color black chalk paint that I had already lying around the house and I used a wine cork as my method to create circles so I just found something in my junk drawer and it worked out really well I will say that if you're going with a polka dot method I think starting your very first dot in the center and then kind of work your way out is going to be the best method to kind of make them look evenly spaced but that's pretty much it then your final step is going to be to add your embellishment this is where you can just go wild you can even do ribbons instead of floral I wanted to make my pumpkins look like they have a floral crown and I will say though that the Tiffany blue one was a little off-center just because of the angle that I was filming I also had to have the camera pointing on it and so my eyes weren't like dead center on the pumpkin so was my flowers were a little off but that shouldn't happen to most of you unless you're filming yourself too and you have your own youtube channel but just make sure you're kind of looking dead in the center and you know making sure your flowers and your leaves are exactly where you want them to go and all of these like you saw in the materials list or all dollar tree materials the only thing again was just the paint and even the paint you can get a Dollar Tree so if you just want a one-stop shop there you go and I just absolutely love how this turned out and you'll see once I get to the white and polka dot pumpkin it was even easier because I use these really gorgeous sunflower picks from Dollar Tree which I have not seen this year so I'm curious if they're gonna put these sunflower picks out and it was so easy because it was already decorated and all I had to do was just glue down the stick and that was pretty much it and I think the black and white ones so so gorgeous and yeah so I hope that you guys see the complete potential and making over this a Dollar Tree pumpkin it really is cute and it's self where it says thankful and blessed and it has the galvanized leaf and things like that but to show you guys how you can still take that decor and turn it into something even more beautiful so hope you guys feel incredibly
