Creating a Sub Premium Brand: Ford's Vigal Venture
Ford has recently introduced a new sub premium brand called Vigal, which is the premium version of their Mondo model. As the first car to receive the Vigal badge, this vehicle represents an exciting new direction for Ford in the automotive market.
Upon entering the Vigal, it becomes apparent that the interior design is one of its standout features. The car boasts a generous amount of leather on the dash and seats, which not only provides a luxurious feel but also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the vehicle. One amusing aspect of the Vigal's design is the quilting on the seats, which allows passengers to gaze down at the space beneath them. This feature might seem unusual, but it highlights the attention to detail that Ford has put into creating a unique and engaging driving experience.
Performance-wise, the Vigal delivers an impressive performance. Powered by a diesel 2 L engine, this vehicle produces 180 horsepower, providing ample power for any situation. The Auto gearbox is smooth and responsive, making it a joy to drive. Furthermore, the car's handling capabilities are noteworthy, ensuring a comfortable ride even on rough terrain.
Despite its impressive features, the Vigal's infotainment system is somewhat lacking. The touch screen interface can be finicky, particularly when navigating complex menus or trying to operate it during sharp turns. In such situations, using voice commands becomes the most effective option. However, this limitation does not detract from the overall driving experience, as the car remains comfortable and easy to handle.
During a test drive on a closed track, the driver had difficulty operating the infotainment system due to its sensitivity to motion. This highlights an issue with touch screens in vehicles, particularly when it comes to navigation or accessing information while driving. However, this can be mitigated by using voice commands or adjusting the settings to better accommodate different driving conditions.
The Vigal's visibility at the back of the vehicle is acceptable but could be improved. The driver had difficulty seeing into the rear seats without looking directly behind them, which may cause inconvenience during parking or reversing maneuvers. However, this limitation can be easily overcome with a glance in the rearview mirror or using backup cameras.
A key aspect to consider when evaluating the Vigal is its positioning within the market. With an asking price of £33,000, it becomes essential to compare this model against more established players like the new Volvo S90. While the Vigal's performance and features are notable, it falls short in terms of overall value and prestige. In the UK, cars like the Ford Mondo have long been associated with taxi services, lending an air of familiarity to this sub premium brand.
In conclusion, the Vigal represents a promising new direction for Ford in the automotive market. While its infotainment system and visibility at the rear could be improved, the car's performance, handling, and luxurious interior make it an attractive option for those seeking a high-quality driving experience. With further refinement and adjustments to address these areas of improvement, the Vigal is poised to become a compelling alternative in the market.
