Diesel's Latest Venture: The Diesel On Full Guard SmartWatch
Diesel is a fashion brand best known for making watches like this monster on my wrist here, like many other fashion companies. It's making a move into tech and doing so with a SmartWatch, which is what diesel got for us. Well, it's not dissimilar to the analog watch that we showed you at the stop. The design is actually very similar to the analog watch, with shared design similarities on both sides of the watch. There are large buttons on one side and an oversized design on the other.
There's a very good reason for this. We're not really buying smart watches but we are buying analog watches. Diesel obviously knows that their preferred customers like this chunky over-the-top design, so why not put exactly the same into the smart watch? It's a really good idea, certainly will encourage us to wear more smart watches underneath. This is an Android 2.0 SmartWatch and arguably it's no different from any other you might buy, particularly from larger designer brands such as Movado and fossil.
It's nice and smoothly running, but we don't know who the internal specs on this are yet, but we suspect it's a Qualcomm platform with 512 megabytes of RAM and operating as Android 2.0. There are a variety of diesel designed watch faces all of them will probably be familiar to anyone who's bought seen a diesel watch, they're certainly the family resemblance throughout. You get the feeling that you're wearing the diesel watch not just from the design but from the watch faces that you wear - meaning that's really great.
In particular, there's a high level of customization including what we showed you here. Actually this really cool color crystal on the outside which in the right light will change color so diesel has done a really clever thing and added to that in to the smart watch. You've got the option of changing different colors of crystal but you can also have the color swapping version. If we select that one for example and come back out again it's actually a little bit hard to see on the video but as you rotate this round it adjusts the color as if it were catching the light in a real situation with an iridescent screen.
This is a really nice addition to the watch, look at another watch face here that does the same perhaps where we go you can see that it catches the light as it were and changes color where you move your wrist. We think that's a really nice feature, it's the first of many customization details on the On Full Guard smart watch. You can really change the sound with this changing the hands changing the design of the face everything there's another feature we quite like on here.
Which gives you a watch face that adjusts with notifications in a very interesting way so for example if you select weather mode the face will show you the weather report from outside but it will also show it in time with the notifications. The same with activity mode if you select this because we've not been moving around much we get dust on the screen we improve our step count the dust goes away finally you can have a do not disturb mode which when a notification comes through cracks the screen so nobody can see what's written on them. Really nice fun different ways of dealing with notifications in the future.
Diesel is going to put its own virtual assistant on to the On Full Guard bottom for guard smart watch we've not had the chance to use that yet and it's going to integrate with your calendar sort of give you reminders every now and then to get up and move or different things like that. It's going to be an interesting way of dealing with notifications again on your watch wearing the On Full Guard smart watch.
This is quite slim for a Smart Watch you can see there the profile doesn't really stand out my wrist and it's incredibly light this is a leather strap which is very comfortable however we have noticed some unfortunate wear even in the first few days of wearing the watch round here. It's chances are is because of this oversized stainless steel buckle down here but it is extremely compact very comfortable to wear on a daily basis. You're going to be able to buy this from the end of October where it's going to cost three hundred and twenty-five dollars other versions with different straps including metal ones will follow before the end of the year.
