What My KIDS Eat in a Week Part 2

As a mother of three children, including a three-year-old and a five-year-old, I have learned to navigate the challenges of feeding them. One thing that has helped me is having a routine and planning meals in advance. I remember announcing my pregnancies on this channel, and since then, I have been sharing my experiences with you all.

One of the things I want to share with you today is my approach to meal planning for my children. Since they are young, their diets can be tricky to manage. For breakfast, we often have simple things like toast or toasted jam, cereal, oatmeal, or sometimes a Friday treat. On Sunday mornings, I may make something a bit more elaborate, like a breakfast sandwich. For lunch and dinner, we tend to stick to simple meals that are easy to prepare.

For example, my son's typical school lunch includes leftover chicken pot pie, pretzels, apples, granola bars, fruit puree, and water. On another day, he might have a ham sandwich, strawberries, edamame, tangerines, some Fruity Pebbles, and gummy bears. For dinner, we often have simple meals like steamed mussels with corn on the cob and bread, or spaghetti and meatballs with watermelon.

One of my favorite things to make for them is a simple pasta dish that I can customize to their tastes. One night, I used HelloFresh ingredients to make a delicious adobo loco steak dinner that consisted of steak, poblano peppers, corn, and potatoes in an adobo sauce-based sauce. The meal came together quickly and was easy to prepare.

My sons also enjoy eating pasta, and one night we had a fun twist on this classic dish when we used HelloFresh ingredients to make a homemade fish burger with fries. We also have some other favorite snacks that my kids love to munch on throughout the day, like Fruity Pebbles, gummy bears, and snack mix.

One of the things I've learned as a mom is not to stress too much about feeding my children healthy meals. While it's great to offer them nutritious food, I also want to make mealtime fun and enjoyable for them. One way I do this is by letting them try new foods and giving them options. For example, when we're having dinner together as a family, I might ask my kids if they'd like to have their usual pasta with meat sauce or something different, like stir-fry.

My youngest son often tells me that certain foods "look gross," but this usually just means he's overhungry and wants to eat quickly. So, I try not to take it personally when he makes comments about food, and instead, I offer him a small portion of the dish so he can try it without feeling overwhelmed.

Overall, my approach to feeding my children is simple: we stick to familiar meals that are easy to prepare and customize to their tastes. We also make an effort to include a variety of fruits and vegetables in our diet, even if they're not always the most appealing options for them. And, of course, we have plenty of snacks on hand to keep them satisfied throughout the day.

I hope this gives you some ideas for simple meals that your kids might enjoy!

it is a groggy time both for me and my children and I often forget so for breakfast we have just a few things we usually have toast or toasted jam or cereal or oatmeal or sometimes a Friday and then for Sunday breakfast I may make something a little bit more elaborate like a breakfast sandwich so the weekends we often go out for lunch and we went to our favorite clam shack and I got fried clams and a salad my boys love to nibble on my clams but they usually get a kid's meal of chicken tenders and french fries with water and a cookie and for dinner we had steak edamame mushrooms carrots and rice here's an example of a lunch that my son would take to school leftover chicken pot pie pretzels apples granola bar a fruit puree and water for dinner we're having some chicken with mashed potatoes glass of milk and tangerine here's another school lunch a ham sandwich strawberries edamame tangerines some flutter cookies and some gummy bears and for this night my husband prepared our hellofresh meal this is adobo loco steak it has steak with poblano peppers corn and potatoes with a little bit of adobo sauce and everything you need comes in your insulated box with instructions and peppers for lunch we have ramen noodle soup with Naruto which is a little bit of fish cake so for dinner we have steamed mussels corn on the cob some chatter and bread i buy this ramen frozen and it contains its soup base and i keep it in the freezer and it comes in a really really handy on the nights that you don't have time to cook or something for lunch but it's really high in sodium so we don't eat it too often and then for dinner we have spaghetti and meatballs with watermelon so like a lot of kids my boys don't really like of vegetables too much but i offer them a ton of fruit so with each meal i offer some kind of fruit watermelon tangerine apple slices something to kind of give them a little bit more fiber so here's another school lunch ad crustose sandwich edamame and apple pretzels cookie and some snack mix and for dinner we had homemade fish burgers and fries apple slices and a tangerine a typical lunch for my son that stays at home is a tuna sandwich with some chips yellow carrot sticks and some kiwi and then for dinner we went out to which is a lovely beef based Vietnamese soup my boys love it so much one thing I've come to discover in my five years of being a mother is I try my best not to make things hard on myself I don't want to cook two meals for myself and my husband and my children so what I've tried to do is make one meal and then give that to the kids and I may adapt that if I'm making something spicy I'll take out the spice for them for their portion but I don't want to make two meals I'm not gonna make a separate meal I think the best tip I can give when terms to offering food to kids is just let them try it give them a little bit of control say do you want to taste it do one have some and if they don't respect that give him a little bit of space often times my youngest son will say oh mama that's gucky before he even has a taste and of course it hurts my feelings because I just spent the last hour making dinner and he says that looks gucky but he's just saying that often times because he's over hungry and I'll just put it there and I said look you don't have to eat it if you don't want to and more often than not he eats it and he's happy because he's hungry all right so I hope you guys found that helpful big thanks again to hellofresh for sponsoring this video head over to hell of fresh comm and enter the code me3 zero to
